Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Talk to the beldam of a witch coven.
- Head to the dungeon the beldam points you to.
- Find and destroy the Vampire Ancient within.
- Return to the beldam within the time limit.
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Vampire TroubleEdit
The beldam says:
- "We have a potential problem I fear. A vampire ancient hateful of witches hath moved into an abandoned castle in our territory. Obviously this is a situation we must remedy, doth thou agree, (player's first name)?"
AcceptEdit
The beldam goes on:
- "Wouldst thou? And yet, a vampiric ancient is no feeble adversary. Do not go into battle without preparation. This creature is called (vampire's name), and its new sanctuary is called (dungeon). Thou wilt find it in (current region). I will expect ye back here in (time limit) nights. Do not get thyself killed, (player's first name)."
DeclineEdit
The beldam answers:
- "I can understand thy fear. Only the very able or the very foolish would agree to slay a vampiric ancient."
Slaying the Vampire AncientEdit
Travel to the dungeon the beldam named, find the vampire ancient within, and destroy it. A spell or an item with a protection against magic is very handy if not necessary, as it is always when dealing with this type of enemy. When the vampire ancient died, the following message pops up:
- You have slain (vampire's name).
Return to the beldam after destroying the vampire and collect your reward.
RewardEdit
Upon your return, the beldam says:
- "We could almost hear the screams of that ancient from here, (player's first name). Thou hast the witches' gratitude."
Reputation Gain/LossEdit
A successfully completed quest results in a reputation gain according to the table below.
Faction/Person | Reputation Gain |
---|---|
Witch Coven | +5 |
A failed quest (time limit expired) results in a reputation loss according to the table below.
Faction/Person | Reputation Gain |
---|---|
Witch Coven | -2 |
EnemiesEdit
- Random dungeon monsters
- Quest Target: One Vampire Ancient
NotesEdit
- The quest log entry for this quest does not mention the location of the dungeon, so be prepared to record it at the beginning of the quest or to ask around in a town for any news.
- DFQFIX corrects this issue; the name of the dungeon will be listed in the quest log entry.
Additional DialogueEdit
If you ask an NPC about the witch who gave you the quest, you may be told:
- "(Witch's name) is a very nice and intelligent (witch's description) at (residence)."
- "(Witch's name) is that nice (witch's description) you'll find at (residence), (direction) of here."
After you have accepted this quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "There's been a lot of activity at (dungeon), but it's been abandoned for years."
- "That (vampire's name) is an aristocrat. Says (he/she)'s cleaning up (dungeon) and (region)."
If you fail the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "(Vampire's name) finally moved out of (dungeon), I hear. No place for an aristocrat."
- "Now that (vampire's name) moved out of (dungeon), (he/she)'s over at the palace a lot."
If you successfully complete the quest, NPCs may say when asked for any news:
- "It turns out that nice (vampire's name) was a vampire! I had no idea!"
- "Thank (random god) that wonderful (player's race) mercenary killed the vampire in (dungeon)."
If you successfully complete the quest, the quest giver may later greet you with:
- "We have not forgot (vampire's name), (player's first name). What may we do for thee?"
If you failed the quest, the quest giver will greet you with:
- "(Vampire's name) still walks the night, feeding on our sisters. Thou should have said that thou could not defeat it. Go from us now. We would not speak further."
