Daggerfall Unity: LockpickingEdit

Lockpicking is one of the skills belonging to a player character. It is only used in unlocking locked doors. There are different formulas for dungeon and outdoor locks. Each one is pitted against a roll ranging from 1 to 100, and if the roll is lower than the formula result, the lock will open.

Dungeon doors use the formula chance = (5 * (level - lockValue) + lockpickingSkill). All locked doors have a lock level, designated as a number. Normal locks range from 1 to 20 in power. Locks with power greater than 21 are considered "magically locked," and lockpicking cannot open them. These require spells or specific dungeon mechanisms to open instead.

Exterior doors use the formula chance = lockpickingSkill - (5 * lockValue). Exterior doors do not have a set "level" like dungeon doors, and how classic determines lock strength of exterior doors is currently unknown.

If you fail to pick a lock, this information is stored in building data and you cannot try again until you level up your Lockpicking skill at least once.
