Rilis IV was an Altmer noble that ruled the city of Firsthold in ancient history as a member of House Rilis. Much like the rest of his family, he is described as a proud warrior.[1] Prior to its abandonment after Rilis XII's reign, Rilis IV and his family lived in Castle Rilis just northeast of the city and on the coast.[2]
Much of his immediate family was greatly affected by the Rilis Helm, but it is unclear if he specifically wore it. His father, Rilis III wore the helm at the Battle of Ten Maws and killed his son, Rilis IV's brother with his bare hands.[3] His mother also wore the helm but was never seen again.[4] Two of his sons were also affected. The one who would become Rilis V convinced his brother to wear it and then led the mob to kill him.[5]
