Nevena Ules

Nevena Ules is a Dark Elf noble and one of House Hlaalu's Councilors. She resides in her manor west of Suran. You will need her vote to become Hlaalu Hortator, but she is an open supporter of Orvas Dren, and will not vote without his approval or removal. She is also interested in the location of Vassir-Didanat Ebony Mine, but is distrusted on this issue by her fellow Councilors, Dram Bero and Velanda Omani (and, evidently, even by Crassius Curio, who will point you to the other two Councilors, but not to Ules: all with good reason, as Ules will pay you absolutely nothing if you reveal the location to her).

Nevena wears an upper-class outfit befitting of her status, which consists of an exquisite shirt with matching skirt, shoes, amulet, and two rings. She carries a glass dagger, a grand soul gem, and 374 drakes. Aside from her natural resistance to fire and the sanctuary provided by her ancestors, she knows the following spells: Resist Fire, Seryn's Gift, Cure Poison, Balyna's Antidote, and Free Action.

DialogueEdit

  • Greetings:
    • "Well, if you've come all this way, I suppose you can ask a few questions."
  • current events: "There's always trouble between outlanders- non-Dunmer Imperial colonists- and the Dunmer natives. Often it just appears to be common theft and crime, but racial and cultural hatreds often lie behind the violence."
  • factions: "Observers of Vvardenfell's politics recognize eleven main factions, some aligned with Imperial interests, some aligned with native Dunmer interests."
  • Great Houses: "Morrowind is dominated by five Great Houses. Three have holdings on Vvardenfell: House Redoran, House Hlaalu, and House Telvanni."

Quest-Related EventsEdit

Hlaalu HortatorEdit

Nevena Ules's vote is required for you to become the Hlaalu Hortator. Unfortunately, she won't give you her vote straight away (unless you have already paid a certain mer a visit, that is...):

  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "I think that's some kind of war leader. Why are you interested?"
    • Ask how a Hortator is chosen.
      • "I don't know. Don't we already have a Hortator? If we don't, maybe we can find one somewhere."
    • Tell your story and ask to be confirmed as Hortator.
      • [If you are a member of House Hlaalu or if Disposition ≥ 80.] "That's a very strange story, with all the stars and prophecies. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Maybe you should speak with one of my advisors, Orvas Dren. He owns a plantation in the Ascadian Isles."
      • [Else.] "I don't understand at all. What is this about stars and a prophesy? No, don't tell me again. I don't know why you want to be a Hortator. It's all very confusing. Maybe I should talk to the other counselors. And my advisors."

There are two ways to solve this little problem. Firstly, you can persuade Orvas Dren to support you, either in this quest or in the House Hlaalu quest Dealing with Orvas Dren, which causes her to promptly recognize you as the Hlaalu Hortator:

  • "I've just heard the news, %PCName. Congratulations on your... negotiations with Orvas Dren. What can I do for one as influential as yourself?"
  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "Oh. Oh. Yes. Yes, Ser %PCName. The Hortator thing, right? They said, if I knew what was good for me, I would do as you asked. So. You want to be a Hortator? I make you a Hortator. I vote for you. That's all I have to do, right? Once all the councilors agree, make sure you see Crassius Curio."

Secondly, you can kill Orvas Dren, in which case an evidently frightened Nevena Ules will agree to lend you her support:

  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "Oh. Yes. You want to be Hortator. Sure. I think that's a very good idea. You'll be a very special Hortator. Is that okay? Do I need to say anything official? Here. How about... 'In the name of House Hlaalu, I hereby say you are a Hortator. Of this house... House Hlaalu.' I hope that's right. Once all the councilors agree, make sure you see Crassius Curio."

If you mention the topic again after she agrees to name you Hlaalu Hortator, she says:

  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "I have given you my vote, %PCName. There's no need to keep asking me about it. Go talk to the other councilors and get their votes."

And when you have gathered the votes of the remaining councilors, she says:

  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "Since everyone agrees, you are the Hortator now, right? Hortator of House Hlaalu? I think you should talk with Crassius Curio again. Something about a belt confirming your title?"

Finally, after you have received the Belt of the Hortator from Crassius Curio, her greeting changes to:

  • "Yes, I have named you the Hlaalu Hortator. Is there anything else you need?"

Note that, like the other councilors of House Hlaalu, she will never agree to name you Hortator if you first kill Crassius Curio, Dram Bero or Velanda Omani:

  • Hlaalu Hortator
    • "You have killed one of the councilors, %PCName. I will make sure that your request to be Hortator of House Hlaalu is postponed. Indefinitely."

Vassir-Didanat Ebony MineEdit

One way (though not at all a lucrative way) of finishing this quest is by telling Nevena Ules about the location of the Vassir-Didanat ebony mine:

  • Vassir Didanat Mine
    • "Are you hinting that you know the location of Vassir-Didanat? I promise that you will have great riches if you tell me the location of this mine... Whatever you do, don't speak a word to Dram Bero or Velanda Omani."
    • Tell the location of Vassir-Didanat.
      • "Yes, I will have someone investigate. I promise that you will be richly rewarded."
    • Nevermind.
      • "I am disappointed. I thought you knew where Vassir-Didanat was."

Mentioning the mine again after you reveal its location to her elicits the following response:

  • Vassir Didanat Mine
    • "Yes, I promise you will have great riches. These things take time to arrange, %PCName."

And finally, if you were wise (or lucky) enough to share the mine's location with either of the other two candidates, she says:

  • Vassir Didanat Mine
    • [If you shared the mine's location with Dram Bero.] "You should have spoken with me instead. I would have promised you more than just a weapon."
    • [If you shared the mine's location with Velanda Omani.] "You should have spoken with me instead. I would have promised much more than Velanda Omani."
