Morrowind Mod:Morrowind Modding Wiki/Task List

< Morrowind Mod:Morrowind Modding Wiki

This page lists a range of projects or project ideas that editors have identified as needing to be worked on. Any task that has not been crossed out can be worked on by anyone.

InstructionsEdit

Working on a TaskEdit

  • Search through the list to find what you would like to work on.
  • If you are unsure of a task, ask on the talk page.
  • Once you have chosen a task to work on; underneath the task say that you are working on it. For example:
    I'm working on it! --~~~~
  • When you have completed the task, mark it with
    <s> and </s>
at the start and end respectively.

Adding a TaskEdit

  • If you have an idea for a task, add it to the appropriate area in the list. If you are unsure about it, just ask on the talk page.
  • Add a description to the task so that other editors have a better idea of what they need to do.

GeneralEdit

Guides Ready to Add

Any tutorials and guides that have had permission granted to be added to the wiki, but have not yet been added.

Tutorials and GuidesEdit

  • Archives needs to be expanded.
  • Mod needs to have the Construction Set section to be expanded upon.
    • I'm working on it. --Brucoms (talk) 18:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
      • Actually, not much needed to go into their considering much of the information in in the main Construction Set article.
  • Morrowind.ini needs to have all setting entries added.

Modding Tutorials and GuidesEdit

  • Example sections in all of the pages in String Functions need expanding.
  • All example sections in Category Functions need expanding. The descriptions could do with some work too.

Scripting functionsEdit

As of 21 July 2015:

  • All vanilla scripting functions are missing articles, despite some categories existing (as empty) for them, and some being linked to. Something should be done about this, though it's not strictly necessary to create an article for every vanilla function. Perhaps one article could be created for all or most of them, or they could be spread across category-like articles. Only complex or difficult functions should need a whole article, the rest can be just listed with a link to an external resource. As of now, this wiki is a great documentation of MWSE functions, but it oddly seems to provide no info about vanilla scripting functions at all.
    • That's because the UESP has that covered pretty nicely, and it will take a person with thorough scripting knowledge to expand on what is already written there. Right now the only option is just dumb copy pasta from there, though maybe it should be done anyway. In that case we need to ask for their permission. --Wretched fetcher (talk) 12:25, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
      • Yeah, I was thinking just linking (potentially even redirecting???) to the UESP's descriptions, for most functions (maybe specific ones that are harder to comprehend or have potential tricks, hidden uses and pitfalls could have more text added later, but then again, may as well just add the same to the existing UESP text/article as well). I guess copypasta-ing is also an option, only because it would serve as a mirror in case the UESP ever goes down *shudder*. Actually, given permission, it would be trivial to simply mirror the http://www.uesp.net/morrow/editor/mw_cscommands.shtml file, and if we wanted to keep it the most simple then I guess we could even just keep it at that (but broken categories and links related to scripting functions still need to be fixed). Golken (talk) 12:06, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
        • All right, then we should go ahead and ask them. By the way, I like this older scripting functions presentation you linked much more.
  • In regards to Merzasphor's MWSE updates, all external links on the wiki going directly to Dropbox downloads, forum threads etc should be changed to internal links to Morrowind Mod:MWSE#Updates_by_Merzaphor instead! Links on that article itself are exempt, of course.
  • MWSE functions added by Merzasphor but deprecated should all mention in their articles that they're deprecated and will be removed in a future version. This includes the 27 xGetBaseSkillname functions and the xGetSpellEffectInfo and xGetEnchantEffectInfo functions. If possible, those functions should be somehow marked (for example with a symbol and a legend for it) as deprecated in the category lists. For tidiness, the 27 xGetBaseSkillname articles should really be deleted/merged into a single article, as they cause clutter...
  • MWSE functions which existed before, but were changed (this always means fixed, at least up until this moment) by Merzasphor should both mention this in their articles, and be added to the new Category:MWSE functions updated by Merzasphor, which exists to list the 0.9.4a functions that function differently in the latest version. As some or all articles already mention this, this search helps finding them. Lastly, the number of functions in this category needs to replace the '#' symbol within the Morrowind Mod:MWSE#Updates_by_Merzaphor article (and the Under Construction template needs to be removed from it once it is satisfactory).

Cleanup and maintenanceEdit

Need for some removal of clutter, cleanup and improvements and some broken stuff or missing info can be gleaned from special pages.

  • Special:ShortPages usually need expansion, especially those that are very high up in the list. Note that not all pages need to be long or duplicate all the info present at other places, a lot should have basic info and a "Main article:" or "Main external article:" header instead (examples are in the Style Guide) - there's no need to duplicate all the info in the UESP, simply link to it, instead.
Also see the Under Construction category for unfinished pages.
  • Special:WantedPages need to be created, or else the links to them fixed or removed.
  • Special:UnusedCategories need to be either used or deleted.
  • (Minor) Special:DoubleRedirects should be fixed.
  • (Minor) Special:DeadendPages typically miss some links.

etc.

ModsEdit

  • We need pages dedicated to leveling mods, because character development is the heart of the game and people should know their options. I'm talking about GCD, BTBGI, MADD Leveler and others. There is also one which hasn't been released yet, but looks very promising - Morrowind Character Development Enhanced.
  • All animation mods should be covered. They are one of the most difficult to set up, and have the worst compatibility problems. Additionally, we need an article on AnimKit by Liztail and some good guides on modding animation - the single most difficult aspect of modding the game, in my opinion. I saw some great tutorials on the subject at ES Archive a while back. --Wretched fetcher (talk) 12:25, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Forum threadsEdit

  • The official forums will be moved very soon. The old forum will likely be accessible for some time (I'm not 100% sure though), but not indefinitely. This means that we have to locate the most informative and helpful threads and copy them here (keeping only relevant information, of course). We have permission from Matt Gstaff for that. --Wretched fetcher (talk) 10:18, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

OtherEdit

  • In fact, pretty much all of the tool pages need expanding with any info about them.
    • I'm working on (some of) it --Dragon32 (talk) 23:03, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
  • There are still many recorded interviews with missing transcripts.
    • I'll try my hand at interview with Melchior Dahrk next week. I hope my audition lessons will pay off =). --Wretched fetcher (talk) 18:38, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
