Mercenaries are Bretons found following other players around the Carved Hills and Bloodthorn Lair during the quest Into the Hills. They take the place of Jakarn to ensure you don't see multiple copies of the same person. Like Jakarn, they will vanish in a plume of smoke at the Bloodthorn Lair exit.
