Vijari

Vijari is a Dagi who lives in Black Heights. His wife Ka'ishka takes care of him as he suffers from a genetic illness. His sister-in-law, Adara'hai, has come to Black Heights upon Ka'ishka's request, as Vijari's condition has worsened. His mother and father passed on years ago.

Vijari affected by the tainted Wall

After Adara'hai asks you to clear the way to the Wall of Life so she can investigate, you will encounter Vijari standing in front of the Wall, which has been tainted by the Dark Behind the World and an odd drumbeat can be heard. As Adara'hai arrives, he can be heard speaking nonsensically.

Adara'hai: "Dark Moons …!"

Vijari: "Dak'radhi, Dak'radhi, dance with me!"

Adara'hai: "Vijari! He's caught in the dance! Stop him, we must get him away from here!"

When you attempt to reason with him he will speak in a rhyming meter though he does mention something that may help.

"Vijari, Vijari, comes to thee. He can't see, Dak'radhi."

Vijari! You have to stop dancing! It's changing you!

"Vijari, Vijari, cannot flee. Khenarthi, Khenarthi, is the key."

Khenarthi is the key? Hold on!

Once you have rung both of the Khenarthic Bells, he will have calmed down slightly.

"The heart … it pounds! Or is that his own?"

When you arrive at his home you will find that Vijari and Adara'hai have arrived before you. While Ka'ishka sits nearby, Adara'hai will be singing the Dusk-Canticles in an attempt to help him. You can then ask him about himself and the Wall.

"Ka'ishka, is that you? What is that song? It calms Vijari's heart. The voice this one knows, but it's so dark."

You're home. Ka'ishka's here. Her sister is singing the Dusk-Canticles for you.

"Ah! He is in the Dark! This one remembers. The dance. The beating. He can't hear it, but Vijari still feels it in his chest. It tugs at his tail. It's calling to him."

What's calling to you?

"The Wall. Vijari's time is close, he can feel it. He felt the Wall of Life calling for him. He heard a familiar voice guiding him toward Khenarthi's grace, but Vijari got lost along the way."

It was the Wall that was turning you into a Bent Cat.

"No … it's worse than Ka'ishka feared. If the Wall stands between this one and Khenarthi, he will never reach the Sands Behind the Stars.
Vijari has no strength left. If the Darkness does not take him, his illness surely will."

Is there no cure for your affliction?

"None that any Moon-Priest could share. This sickness has followed Vijari's family for generations. This one lost his mother to it when he was young. Why we suffer while our cousins are spared, this one does not know, but at least it ends with him."

Was it your mother's voice you heard?

"It would not be her, she never saw the Wall of Life … but his father made the journey.
Vijari thinks it was his voice. Dak'radhi beckoned him to the Sands Behind the Stars."

What do you mean your mother never saw the Wall?

"She … she did not have the strength to make her mark on the Wall. She stayed to care for this helpless cub while his father was away. By the time his father returned it was all she could do to say goodbye. It will be the same for me."

At Adara'hai's insistence, you will need to drink the Cantor's Tonic to investigate the village for the connection between the Vijari and the corruption. You will see younger version of him in several of the visions brought upon you by the tonic.

Once you have observed the visions and learnt the probable culprit, you can return to the house to find Vijari in a better condition. If you see how he is, you have the option of either lying or telling him the truth about what you saw during the trance.

"Vijari sees you clearly for the first time. He is glad to know your face before he journey's onward. Vijari will paint it for Khenarthi in the Sands Behind the Stars and beg her to repay your kindness."

How are you feeling?

"Blessed. Grateful. Afraid. Vijari very much wants to lay his head down and shut his eyes, but he does not know if they will ever open again … or what he will see behind his closed lids. He still hears the drums. Not with his ears, but his heart."

I saw your father during the Cantor's trance.

"So his voice was not another mirage in my mind? That is a great comfort to Vijari. There will be someone waiting for him on the other side of the Wall."

Dak'radhi is the one who created that corrupted mural at the Wall of Life.

"What are you saying? This one's father? No, no, no, no. Vijari's ears deceive him."

That's why he's calling you to the Wall. He wants you to become a dro-m'Athra too.

"Please, not another word. Vijari cannot bear it. Just … just let him prepare for his journey."

[Lie]I'm sure he will. We still need to cleanse the corruption first.

"Yes, of course. Vijari will not falter again."

After speaking with Adara'hai about the visions, she will suggest you ask Vijai and Ka'ishka about the ingredients observed in the ritual.

I need to make paint with these ingredients. Any idea what they could be?

"A paint? Let me see … Rajhin has left you a puzzle, yes?
Where should we start?"

The blood of a flightless bird.

"That one is no trouble. Vijari would use cardinal roses.
Though … cardinals do fly … but plants do not. Perhaps it is trickier than he thought."

Petals, blue as the sky.

"Vijari does not know why one would use flowers when water beetles are plentiful and make better pigment, but there are many petals to choose from for a sky blue."

I need something specific. Any petals associated with numbing dreams?

"Vijari takes medicine made from blue poppies for his pain. They give him strange dreams. It is a strange choice for paint, but it would do."

"Your painter is a morbid joker.
The white sycamore is a holy symbol of Khenarthi, for she carries its seeds far and wide on her winds. Khajiit use its bark for the purest of whites."

Vijari and Ka'ishka in the Colorworks

Once you have gathered the ingredients, you can meet with the group in the Colorworks. Vijari's condition will have taken a turn for the worst.

Vijari: "You should not be out of bed, mama. Vijari will stay inside."

Ka'ishka: "Shh, Vijari, it's all right. Just sit with this one a while."

Speaking to him:

"Vijari … Vijari can play inside. He can … he can paint like papa. Vijari doesn't mind."

After speaking to Adara'hai, Vijari will begin mixing paint with Ka'ishka's assitance while performing a counter-ritual.

Ka'ishka: "Vijari, it is time, love."

Vijari: "Vijari is ready."

Adara'hai: "Now, just as I instructed."

Vijari: "The blood of a flightless bird."

Ka'ishka: "Whose feathers still sail on the wind."

Vijari: "Petals, blue as the sky."

Ka'ishka: "May they lighten your burdens on the journey ahead."

Vijari: "The skin of her fallen children."

Ka'ishka: "Whose souls are gently carried in Khenarthi's arms."

Once you have spoken with Adara'hai, Vijari will be resolute.

"Vijari knows what he must do. He will not fail you all."

After ringing the bell at the Wall, the group approaches.

Adara'hai: "We're coming, walker! Good work."

Ka'ishka: "That's the Wall?"

Vijari: "Only it's [sic] shadow. We will brighten it again."

Speaking to him in front of the wall:

"This is as pure an expression of anguish and sorrow as this one has ever seen.
Now that Vijari sees it for what it is, it pains him to blot out his father's final work."

After receiving your mission briefing from Adara'hai, Vijari will rise and approach the mural.

Ka'ishka: "Do you need help?"

Vijari: "Vijari will manage."

Speaking to him:

"This is not how Vijari imagined his journey would end, but he is ready to walk it.
If Vijari does not see you again. Thank you for coming this far with him."

Once you reach Dak'radhi in the Passage of Dad'na Ghaten. Vijari and Ka'ishka will arrive soon after you, Vijari can only call out to his father.

Vijari: "Wait! Stop this, father!"

After you destroy Dak'radhi's physical form, his spirit will still linger and will appear before his son to try and convince him to join Dak'radhi in the dark. Vijari refuses to follow.

Dak'radhi: "Dance with me, Vijari! Down in the Darkness where death cannot find you. We will never be separated again!"

Vijari: "Vijari doesn't fear dying, father. He fears what you've become."

Dak'radhi: "Dak'radhi can't lose you too! He won't!"

Vijari: "Vijari won't follow where you want him to go."

As Vijari begins to leave, Dak'radhi calls out to him in despair.

Dak'radhi: "No! Vijari-ma! Vijari! Don't leave Dak'radhi! Don't leave him alone!"

Once you have rung the Advent Bell and cleansed the Glade, you can return to the Wall of Life. When you arrive, you will find a weakened Vijari sitting near his final work.

Vijari: "Ka'ishka? Are they here? Tell them to come closer."

Speak with Vijari.

"Are you really here, zha'al? Vijari cannot trust his senses any longer."

I'm really here.

"He is glad. Vijari is the only one meant to leave the world today.
Did he finish, walker? This one's eyes are still in shadow. He cannot see the Wall."

You did it, Vijari. You restored the Wall of Life.

"Thank Khenarthi. He feared the Darkness swallowed him before he could.
He heard his father calling him. He had to go. To see him. There was a great crack of a bell and he was gone. Is his father …?"

Banished with the Darkness.

"Twisted as it is, Vijari knows there is love in his father's heart. This one prays the Divines will show mercy and wrench it right-ways some day."

Go in peace, Vijari.

[Lie] Adara'hai dispelled the darkness within him.

"You are kind to gift Vijari one of Rajhin's gentle fibs, but he has come to terms with what he's lost. He knows his father loved him more than life itself, and that is enough."

Go in peace, Vijari.

After speaking to Vijari, he has some final words for his wife before he passes on.

Vijari: "Ka'ishka?"

Ka'ishka: "She is here."

Vijari: "You have carried Vijari this far. Please do not bear the weight after he is gone."

Ka'ishka: "She will not let you go a moment sooner."

Vijari: "Are we outside? Mother? Vijari feels a breeze …."
