Unlocking the Word of Power
Perhaps it would be nice to mention, if a specific dragon soul is needed for unlocking a specific word of power. Or any kind of killed dragon could unlock certain word of power? How is it?
- any soul will do as long as you have the word. (Eddie The Head 12:32, 21 November 2011 (UTC))
I am not too far in the quest line (I just got the first fire breath word) however, I have learned other words in my wanderings and killed a few dragons but the souls never unlocked the words for use, any idea why?
- The souls don't unlock. You unlock by using the souls. The menu interface should tell you how to do that. 81.233.217.129 08:10, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Using Dragonsouls
I added where you can find gathered dragon souls. It was removed again. I still think I'm not the only one missing it. I looked here first. Found nothing. I already had 8 dragon souls and was starting to wonder why my shouts don't become more powerful. I'm clearly not the only one. I found a "solution" in a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVsbzKf5gyg
Maybe we should place it at another section/ use a different wording. "You can do this in the magic menu" clearly sounds obvious. But it's not.== 20 shouts, 60 words. But how many souls?
20 shouts, 60 words. But how many souls?
I just have the doubt. Is it possible to have more than 60 dragon souls in the game or even less?? Im just curious because so far I save my dragon souls for shouts that seem worth. But in the end is possible to unlock all the shouts in their major level, and still keep collecting souls?? If so, Bethesda should make a DLC where you could do something with the extra souls. Like putting it in a Black Soul Gem, and have an overpowered enchantment. Or spending one dragon soul to change the appearance of the character.
- You can get at least enough souls to unlock all the words, so you don't need to worry about picking and choosing. I do not know if you can collect more. Chris3145 23:30, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

- Yes, you can have it all. Actually I'm starting to fear that I will end up with a lot more souls! After some time it became pretty annoying that I encounter at least one dragon nearly everywhere I go, no matter if fast traveling or not. The entire Legion or Stormcloaks could have been fully armored with Dragon Bone Armor after the amount I sold to vendors. Seems there is no limit of dragons, but that's just speculation on my behalf. Oddly enough, encountering one Daedra became much more valuable than a dozen Dragons. Another speculaton: I don't think that Bethesda will change anyithing about what you have written here, in a DLC. But as always: mods. You never know.
There are an infinite amount of dragons, even after the main quest, so souls will come with thoose, not sure about respawning ones at shrines.--Br3admax 20:32, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- Respawning dragons at the shrines do not give any souls (they can be looted though) only the random attacker do.

- Also, there's no shortage of random Dragon fights. I've fought
FOURSIX in Winterhold alone (and got another, free soul in Winterhold from a glitch), so I don't think you need to worry about running out of them. 209.66.120.3 01:32, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

How to use Souls?
How do use a soul once you absorbed it? Lucien LachanceDB 04:58, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
- Go to Magic->Shouts and find a shout that has a greyed-out word of power. Highlight that shout and press the correct button (shown on the bottom tab) to "redeem" the soul. Jak Atackka 08:47, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm...Still confused.
Alright. I'm really confused? Do you have to kill a dragon AFTER you have learned all three words of a dragon shout? Because, I've read two word walls, and have killed two dragons, and I have 1 shout that I can use, and 1 that I can't, and I don't know how to unlock it. First I read a wordwall (the one on the way to finding the golden claw thingy), then I killed a dragon as part of the main quest, and that unlocked the unrelenting force shout (If you need three words for each shout, shouldn't I have needed to find two more wordwalls?). Then I found another wordwall, which revealed a flame-breathing shout, which I couldn't use because I hadn't yet absorbed another dragon. Then I was involved in a fight in which a dragon was killed (Does it matter if I dealt the death blow to the dragon, or do I just need to activate the body?), so I thought that meant I could use the shout because I had absorbed a soul, but it still says I need a Dragon soul to use the shout. I'm fairly confused, and any clarifications that anyone could make for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
- Highlight the shout in your menu and press X. Chris3145 22:03, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Souls to shouts
I've killed 4 dragons so far and have 2 words uncovered but unrelenting force is still the only shout I can use. Are the souls shout specific?
- What are the other words you have discovered? Any soul can be used to unlock any word. One of the unrelenting force words is given to you by the graybeards. If somebody else kills a dragon you usually can't absorb the soul.RIM 20:50, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
The one at skyborn altar, frost breath. I've absorbed to the soul of all the dragons I've encountered.
- You have to actually unlock the word in the Shouts menu. Someone should put this in bold in the first paragraph- it's like the fifth time it's been asked on this page.
- Also, RIM- where do you get the idea *you* have to kill the dragon to get the soul? I've seen a dragon killed by a guard, a frost troll, and another dragon, and I got the souls from all three. I also got one from a dragon I never even saw alive- there was a dead Ancient Dragon hovering outside Winterhold that burned and gave me its soul as soon as I got near. I don't think you have to be the one to kill them at all- you just need to be there. 209.66.120.3 02:00, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
