Order
The three amulet fragments can be collected in any order. I ran across the Saarthad amulet while doing the Winterhold quest line and toted it around for 10+ levels before stumbling across the book and starting the quest. --QuillanTalk 15:54, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- What exactly is the reward for this? Does the final amulet just combine the effects into one or what? A "reward" for this quest isn't mentioned.-Zydrate[][] 19:26, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- Reward is actually mentioned twice - once at the end of the walkthrough and second time on a screenshot. How is it even possible to miss this? --Electricitydrive 08:24, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- It's also mentioned in the titles at the top of the page, under the line 'Quest giver', it even says 'Reward'. 86.178.73.8 11:27, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- I actually missed that, even though i added it. I don't even know how to explain this. --Electricitydrive 15:48, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Starting the Quest
I'm not sure how to go about properly annotating this in the quest stages section, but it's worth mentioning that this quest can also be started simply by stumbling across one of the amulet fragments - as I did when completing the College quest Under Saarthal. I'm not sure if the objective manifests itself under "miscellaneous" or if it actually starts the quest, but either way, I was immediately told to seek out a copy of the book. StoneFrog 06:18, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- The same thing happened to me. I got the quest by doing Mage's quest to Saarthal. It manifests as the actual quest, not a misc. quest. Oshaugm 14:09, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- You need to actually read the 'Writ of Sealing' to start the quest like this, not just pick up an amulet fragment. — Unsigned comment by 81.151.224.245 (talk) at 22:55 on 2 January 2012
Puzzle Doors
is there any logic to these puzzle doors? how the heck was it eagle eagle dragon? i have never had a problem solving one of these puzzles but this one messed me right up. lol please advise :P --Tasheena 09:16, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- Was Eagle Eagle Dragon the one for the second door? That's the pattern on the Ivory Claw - but I don't know how you're supposed to know to use the Ivory Claw. I only figured it out by using the key hole and noticing that the Ivory Claw was the one that appeared in front of the door and tried to unlock it...it's weird. Idiot (Me) Needs Help with Trivial Edit, Ridicule Optional.
I'm sure I am just missing something, but I wanted to correct a quick typo under the "Reforging the Amulet" section and was thwarted by wiki daemons. Could someone assist?
- None of the "edit" links on this page send me to the appropriate page.
- Even the edit link at the top of the page fails to allow all the information to be edited. It opens a text box with *most* of the article loaded inside, but the "Detailed Walkthrough" section is followed immediately by the "Notes" section (with no "Reforging the Amulet" section in-between).
- Clicking the "edit" link next to "Reforging the Amulet" takes me to a page where I'm allowed to edit the "Notes" section...
- And so on.
I don't know if that section is "protected" or if I'm just an "idiot" though experience tells me it's the latter. :)
So with apologies for not doing this myself, if someone wants to correct the third line of the first paragraph under "Reforging the Amulet" section should read "...must be opened using the Ivory Claw found in Folgunthur." (currently the sentence just ends "the Ivory Claw found in .")
It's a trivial edit, I know, and apologies again for not understanding why in the world I couldn't access that part of the page. (I admit I'm new to the uesp site; I'm more familiar with the wikia.com sites and I guess there must be differences.)
But hey, at least I (hopefully) get a few points for registering an account here, rather than just posting under my IP address (as I'd originally planned) -- eh? Eh? I'll take your silence as a "yes."
Thanks and sorry for the (very) long explanation of a (very) trivial edit; whoever fixes the problem, feel free to delete this post from the Talk page if that's appropriate. Fjord Ubiquity 17:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why you're having problems getting to the right section of the page. Clicking in all the places you mention works for me, and allows me to get to the paragraph you're mentioning. If you're seeing something different, then you're somehow being taken to a different link, which may mean there's some type of bug going on. If you have a chance, could you post the exact URL that one (or each) of the links takes you to? (For example, one URL I'm getting is http://www.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Skyrim:Forbidden_Legend&action=edit§ion=3 ). And, actually, what happens if you click on that link that I just posted? Do you have any wikia-specific gadgets installed in your browser that could possibly be changing what your browser does? --NepheleTalk 18:54, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Folgunthur Bug?
The two rooms puzzle in Folgunthur seemed to be bugged for me. I rotated the stones according to this page, but nothing happened. I had to use TCL to go through the floor grate. — Unsigned comment by 98.225.8.50 (talk) at 03:35 on 27 November 2011
- As you look at the throne, activate the lever to the right to gain access to the right-hand room. The pillars in there are fixed. Take a note of what they are. Then, in the left hand room, activate the pillars so they mirror those in the right-hand one. I'll add that to the Folgunthur page. WalB 12:01, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Reachwater Rock final room bug
I experienced the bug described : "In the final room of Reachwater Rock, when fighting one of the brothers, he may use a Shout that will get you to the place where the two others are standing. You get stuck as if an invisible wall was in front of you, and are unable to attack or go back to the place you where before." After I killed the last one, whatever invisible wall went away and I was able to walk down. — Unsigned comment by 99.61.68.140 (talk) at 19:25 on 27 November 2011
Please Add This (Below) Needed Information!
You cannot enter Saarthal without a key. In order to access Saarthal, you need to go to The College of Winterhold and follow that questline for a bit until you receive the quest Under Saarthal. Rendezvous with Tolfdir there and he will take you inside.
I had to look online for 20 min. just to find this out because it is not mentioned at all in the article. — Unsigned comment by 173.60.94.12 (talk) at 23:51 on 28 November 2011

Problem With Ivory Claw not spawning
Playing the XBOX 360 version of Skyrim and the body did NOT have the Ivory Claw on it. I am unsure how to actually reset this and obtain the claw to continue on. I tried zoning out and back in but it feels obvious that the claw wouldn't spawn on the corpse randomly. I looked around randomly to make sure it handn't fallen somewhere around the tomb to no avail. Any suggestions how to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 67.61.221.17 (talk) at 23:35 on 5 December 2011
Folgunthur Puzzle Already Solved?
Not sure why, but the first time I entered Folgunthur I found the puzzles already solved. I understand that I'm supposed to be following the footsteps of other looters who would have opened the doors, solved the puzzles, killed the Draugrs, etc...but then, why are the puzzles there at all? To add realism? Arycon 19:31, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- I noticed this same problem. I don't think it's realism; I think the puzzles all have a random element in them. One puzzle was already completed, no stones needed to be turned (unlike the walkthrough's description). Also, the order we thew switches (4 switches in a hallway for a series of gates) did not match the description here. We simply threw each switch once, and noticed that the forth switch didn't need to be used, the gates were all open. This would also mean that the walkthrough is probably being too specific. --Amsuko 07:07, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- i solved the 1st room where 4 pillars with eagle, fish and snake , the right combo from the left when you enter the gate is fish, snake , eagle , snake . you will hear a click. All it does is open and shut the gate — Unsigned comment by 110.174.211.9 (talk) at 13:48 on 1 March 2012
Quest starting
Playing on the PC (German language version) I have encountered the following: ... ehm, well, nothing. I finished "Under Saarthal" with taking the fragment and the seal, reading the latter, I read a copy of the FL book. I actually READ it. I went to Reachwater Cave, reading the message about sealing it on the pedestal. Quest did not trigger in any of these cases. I tried a console command (setstage dunGauldursunQST 6) which did nothing to improve the situation. Either I need a different command or something is strange here. --Ulkomaalainen 02:58, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Unable to loot brother in Foldungthur
I am unable to loot brother in Foldungthur. I visited this place before and killed the brother within, but I was unable to loot him. I gave up and went to do some other quests. Now I am back at the spot and I have to fight the boss again. The quest marker however is on the spot where I killed the brother before. After killing the boss 2nd time I try to loot the body but fail. The quest marker is still on the same spot where I killed him the first time. Is there any way I can recover the amulet piece? I play on playstation 3. — Unsigned comment by 87.100.130.11 (talk) at 19:17 on 13 December 2011
- I am having the same problem on the PC version. Help Anyone?
- I found a few codes might be of some use. If you have the RefID (Reference Identification) of the corpse you lost, then you can get it back. "prid RefID" will target the item/person or whatever code you type in. One might resurrect and rekill him, or use "enable"
- I still need Mikrul's RefID, so i still can't complete the quest.Leina18324 20:26, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Daynas Valen's Journal will not trigger the next part of the quest.
ive read the book "lost legends" and was told to go to the camp out side Folgunthur, when i got there i saw the jounal so i read it and picked it up, seeing as i have dont this before i proceeded to enter Folgunthur, inside i fount tht there was no way of entering the ruin itself becouse of a gate just inside, and i remembers that this is not what happened in my first playthrough, ive gone on forums and question rooms but knowone seems to have the same problem. ive tryed everything, reloading saves, waiting sleeping, droping the jounal, everything no luck i just cant get in to the ruin. please help its anoying me now if anyone has any sugestions that would be great thank you. — Unsigned comment by 81.151.203.20 (talk) at 12:53 on 14 December 2011
- I completed this quest recently. I THINK I know what you're talking about. You have to find the way to open the gate. It doesn't have to do with reading the journal or sleeping or so forth. Keep looking. Best wishes. Oshaugm 23:20, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ive Fixed it!!! . . . HOW TO FIX= Read and pick up the journal, then save under a new file, next load that file and as soon as you are bake in the game it will give you the next part of the quest. xXx 22:38, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Making Companions Wait Outside?
Is there any reason for the advice given in this edit? I don't see how this correlates to the bug it is listed with, or how it matters to the quest at all. If anyone can provide a good reason, I'll leave it, otherwise I think it's a worthless edit. - Arycon 21:48, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Quest Marker?
I found the book Lost Legends in Reachwater Cave, triggered the quest, and now my journal says to "Investigate the cryptic message". The quest marker for this is seemingly below the floor in Understone Keep in Markarth. Clairvoyance sends me to the spot above the marker and then stops right there. This is probably a glitch, right? Is there some specific place I'm supposed to go for this quest at this point, other than in the floor in Understone Keep? Melleh17 03:30, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Can't pick up Daynas Valen's Journal
The journal is under a tent by some sleeping skins in the camp outside of Folgunthur. The quest arrow is hovering over it. But I couldn't read it and I couldn't pick it up. I tried adding one to my inventory using the console and reading it, but that didn't advance the quest. The only way I could fix it was to issue "setstage dunGauldursonQST 21" in the console to trick the game into thinking I read it. Hopefully this will help someone else. — Unsigned comment by 50.42.50.13 (talk) at 15:20 on 23 December 2011
trapped
after attaining the dragon shout in folgunther and leaving the room i have exited the chamber via the sarcophagus lid.. i then proceed to leave the ruin of folgunther the way i entered it. but after i pull the first chain opening the door to the hallway where there is a burnt body and pressure pad that activates a jet of flame that comes out of the wall i then reach the second metal gate which is locked.. there is a chain on the right next to the pressure pad but it will not open the gate.. i have been unable to find any other way out of the ruin. it appears that the chain that should open the gate is either bugged or is unable to be reached from my location. help? — Unsigned comment by 122.63.103.244 (talk) at 04:28 on 30 December 2011
Walkthrough is being too specific (not accurate)
Based on some comments from others and my own experience, I think someone may have made this walkthrough based on just their gameplay details. It is mentioned that one puzzle is random, but I think more may also have random aspects. Specifically, the description of the boss was completely wrong for my experience.
- "Off to the right is Sigdis Gualdurson's coffin, and he rises to confront you. He will teleport and shoot at you with the Gauldur Blackbow, which steals magicka; he will conjure duplicates that may also fire arrows at you; and he will use Unrelenting Force."
He did not teleport at all. He had "Gauldur Blackblade" which absorbs health, instead of a bow that absorbs magicka. The conjured minions (how exact is a "duplicate"? because these did not look the same as him) did not use bows and didn't have any on their bodies. He did not use Unrelenting Force. I had to die and re-fight him several times. I am going to change the weapon detail, because the other items could be just a strange chance that he didn't feel like using those spells. Can others confirm if their puzzle or boss-fight experiences were different? --Amsuko 07:25, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm working on a total revamp right now. Battle strategies are often pretty useless (sorry to the contributor!), as it depends on personal playstyle and the random behavior of the enemies, which will be different with each playthrough. My Sandbox is here - feel free to add suggestions to the Sandbox talk page if you catch me doing any mistakes. --Krusty 00:22, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Gauldur amulet bug?
when wearing the complete amulet, I can simultaneously equip an amulet of zenithar. I get the bonuses from both. but if I have an amulet of zenithar equipped, equipping the gauldur amulet will unequip the amulet of zenithar. I havent tried this with other amulets yet. using xbox 360.
EDIT: This bug seems to work with any amulet. I have tried several and had the same result. If someone on a PC finds this bug too, I would ask you use the console to give yourself a second amulet of gauldur and see what happens if you try to equip it. mostly because I am curious. — Unsigned comment by 71.166.57.105 (talk) at 19:33 on January 5, 2012
- It is interesting that some people claim that it is possible to wear 2nd amulet after Galdur one but in my game it is not the case which is kind of pity since master of enchant easily can create an amulet with +62(+72 with potions) to both Magic and Health (or Stamina and Health) and that is much better than Galdur. Actually I believe that some artifacts should be wearable together with usual gear nad that will be its actual power.--31.128.139.219 10:56, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Moved from article after revamp
Below are all the bugs as they appeared before the revamp of the page. I tested most of them (the ones that made sense) and made several members read through it - and we all agreed that the only thing worth mentioning from this section was the "Don't use lightning magic" glitch. Anyway, here they are for future reference:
- Using lightning attacks might disintegrate the brothers without leaving lootable ash piles behind, so you won't be able to proceed with the quest, and you will be stuck or forced to load a previous save. It might also help to leave Delphine and Esbern behind if you have them in your company.
- Likewise, if any of the 3 brothers is disintegrated at the finale, the quest won't be able to continue.
- If you kill Mikrul, without first reading the notes taken from Valen's corpse, you will not be able to loot his body, and thus not able to get his fragment of the amulet. If you've already killed Mikrul, you can fix the problem by reading the notes, and then using the console to 'resurrect' and then 'kill' him.
- If you kill Mikrul on the first level of the room you confront him in, you may not be able to loot his body. If this happens, load a previous save and be sure to kill him when he is standing on at least the second level (up the first set of steps).
- After dropping down the hole in Geirmund's Hall, the puzzle pillars may not rotate. (Xbox 360 and PC, other versions ???)
- In the final room of Reachwater Rock, when fighting one of the brothers, he may use a Shout that will get you to the place where the two others are standing. You get stuck as if an invisible wall was in front of you, and are unable to attack or go back to the place you where before. You can also get stuck, for example, between a brazier and the roof.
- When taking the Amulet it might Disappear in Reachwater Rock, Quest will be completed but Amulet will disappear from your inventory forever, might be fixed on PC if using commands to equip item.
- If you visit Folgunthur as part of the book-fetching radiant quest from Urag gro-Shub, you may loot Daynas Valen's notes as part of progressing through the dungeon prior to reading the journal outside.... If this happens, the quest pointer will be stuck on his body after both the journal and notes have been read. Quest is still able to be completed.
- If you place the first amulet piece on either the left or the right shards, instead of the center one, the amulet piece will not appear. If you hit the shard with a weapon or a magic spell, a bucket might appear instead of the piece. (PC)
- After you find the 3 Gauldur Amulet Fragments, the quest log doesn't update to the next stage (Reforge the Gauldur Amulet). Continue with: Reforging the Amulet.
- Using the Wabbajack on any of the brothers may turn them into a sweetroll, breaking the quest.
- If Esbern and Delphine are in your party when fighting the three brothers, then Gauldur wont forge the three fragments.

Sigdis Bug (?) - 'Fus Ro Dah' OP
Encountered an interesting problem doing this quest today. Level 36 fighting Sigdis, after his teleport and images spawn, all three would start a Fus-Ro-Dah Shout. I was killed immediately upon impact (from a full 310 Health, Ulfric would be proud) - a few reloads later I discovered that a single shout would kill me. Pulled out my bow and out ranged him for the whole fight. Anyone else have a similar issue (instant-death from Sigdis' Fus-Ro-Dah Shout)?
Wuumaster 13:08, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Just encountered this now, very similar circumstances (level 34, 290 health). At first I too thought I was somehow catching the full brunt of all three shouts but after reloading found that just one would waste me.--110.175.64.48 03:46, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- I also thought I was dying, but it turns out, all it does is throw you back. Just wait a few moments and you should get up againLeina18324 21:04, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- The same for me, with the paralyzing bug just below. They shout at you, but it doesn't kill you: it just goes on third person view, and a few seconds after you move again. I'm lvl 37, assassin. Paralyzing Sigdis
I have found that if, when Sigidis is emerging from his sarcophagus, you paralyze him, he remains paralyzied, lying down, and helpless until you kill him. Once or twice, he was also invulnerable to all damage. It may or may not matter that I paralyzed him with a Chillrend. Bug? — Unsigned comment by 50.53.209.243 (talk) at 03:37 on 28 January 2012
- it is the same for me: If you paralyze Sigidis and he manages to teleport while paralyzed, his corpse will remain paralyzed, but you can't attack him or deal any damage. He still teleports, though, when you kill the others illusions, but laying on the floor, as if he was paralyzed, but iwthout the green surrondings. Geirmund's Hall
In Geirmund's Hall, in the stairwell leading up to the antechamber with the levers that launch the spear trap or lower the bridge, there is the sound of a hammer hitting an anvil - as though one were approaching a smithy. It seems loudest near the coal brazier immediately preceeding the room. I've spent an awful lot of time trying to hunt the source of this noise down. The Hall has been cleared, blasting the walls around the noise doesn't seem to alert anything...

According to my journal, I have investigated the Gauldur legend (which is bullcrap; all I did was stumble into the wrong ruin (or read the wrong book...)), found the Gauldur Amulet Fragment in Geirmund's Hall, learned the Truth from Daynas Valen, and found the fragment in Folgunthur (in that order).
