Gloombound Mine
Gloombound mine is for ebony and iron, did not find any moonstone. — Unsigned comment by 71.234.214.121 (talk) at 10:07 on 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Units
"Mts," as far as units of measurement go, refers to the "metre-tonne-second" measurement system, which has not been used in over half a century. If the contributor meant minutes, the abbreviation is "min." If meters was intended, the abbreviation is "m." Note that neither of these should be capitalized or have a period unless they are at the beginning or end of a sentence, respectively. I don't know which unit the contributor intended, so I won't make the edit myself.144.174.250.73 19:00, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

- I've had a bug like that before, though once you mine another vein it will remove all the ore from the one you got bugged with, in addition to the ore that you mine from the new vein. Have to check if you can manually remine a bugged vein or not, but if you can, there's a simple fix.Shardok 11:20, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

- A bug I discovered while mining in Blackreach: I tried to mine an ebony ore vein a distance away from a Wispmother, who had noticed, but not detected, me while killing a falmer. The game displayed the message to the effect that I couldn't mine while enemies were around/during combat. After killing the Wispmother, I mined a nearby geode vein and received messages saying I was obtaining both soulgems and ebony ore from that mining session. I checked the ebony vein and I had emptied it, as well as the geode vein. I was using automatic mining. 76.0.42.190 07:10, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

"Veins typically yield two pieces of ore"
This is what I thought. I actually checked my inventory once and noticed that all three ores are added when mining in one use without stopping. The second one just isn't shown on the screen (perhaps a bug?). It is, however, added to your inventory. -- 141.44.198.144 16:40, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, if you pause the game when you pick up the first ore, then wait the amount of time it would take for the message to disappear, then continue, the message will appear for the second pickup. The third message will not appear unless you complete that process again. So it's not that the message isn't appearing, but the game seems to disallow the a message while the exact same message is on screen - or theoretically on screen, but actually so faded as to not be there. It probably has to do with the amount of time it takes a message to fade and get removed, and the amount of time it takes you to mine a second ore. 153.107.97.155 23:56, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

(←) I've discovered a mining glitch, which comes in handy when mining the rare metal ore like ebony. If you "pull" away from mining just after hiding the rock three times and getting your first ore, and then start mining again and let the player mine till it's depleted. This way you´ll get three ores each time you mine :o) — Unsigned comment by 80.72.152.135 (talk) at 13:27 on 19 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure everyone gets 3 ores when mining regularly anyway, unless you have some sort of glitch. Have you checked your inventory to make sure you don't get 3 ores? I think the Note related to this may be unessecary. Melleh17 13:10, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Manual Mining
A friend told me that mining is also possible by weilding and manually swinging a pickaxe (or two) at a vein, something he says he learned from the Skyrim Official Game Guide. Mining as a job
It seems that like woodcutting and farming, you can also mine ore for people and sell it to them as a form of work. Why you'd ever want to I don't know but at steamscorch for instance the miner in there tells you to mine some ore and he'll pay you for it. Instead I ran off with all the malachite ingots to smith into things but perhaps low level players in search of gold and lacking the right smithing perks might find mining as a job useful. 87.194.26.132 03:18, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, mining as a job to make gold at lower levels would be better paired with levelling up smithing. Mine all you can and keep all your ore, manufacture weapons and armour, upgrade them and sell them. As you level up smithing you will be able to smith more materials and earn even more perks. I wish i had done this early on in the game as to get my glass armour to legendary i ended up spending three days playing (realtime) to level up my smithing and i blew a lot of money on ore at forges and weapon shops in the process. If i had of done this early on with a focus on smithing what i mined it would have saved me 75000 gold in various ores. This of course would require having a house like lakestead manor equipped with the neccesary forging and smithing gear and smelter, because ore and ingots are heavy. Ironically now that im at lvl 53 im searching for malachite veins so i can do just this, mine malachite and head back home to manufacture legendary glass armour for resale effectively for free because there is no input cost for mined materials. Unfortunately im having an awful time finding those veins. Ive hit the throat of the world and a variety of other listed locations ive never visited and dont see the veins, maybe a quest is needed to activate them, but that is an unrelated matter to the original topic. — Unsigned comment by 205.250.43.13 (talk) at 15:33 on 1 August 2013
selling ore
I don't know how to add sections so if someone could add this one. At certain "big" mines, a mine owner will buy that type of ore. This is pretty useful for gold ore, excess oricalcum/ebony/moonstone you don't use anymore, even iron ore if you're not a mage or can't be bothered transmuting it all.
Pavo Attius buys gold ore, located at Left Hand Mine then moves to Kolskeggr if you do the quest. Might die when forsworn respawn? Skaggi Scar-face buys iron ore, lives at Left Hand Mine.
Quicksilver is the owner in Dawnstar, I don't know the name. Oricalcum and Ebony are presumably orcs at one of the big mines of theirs. Finally Moonstone is the fellow hiding outside Soljund's Sinkhole.— Unsigned comment by 41.135.18.95 (talk) on 27 November 2011

Region not necessary
Is adding Region columns to all the tables actually necessary? I believe they only clutter up the article. This article should only provide a quick overview of which locations (mostly interiors) contain the best sources for ore. If you want to head out to a location you'll probably want to open its article anyway to find the most detailed directions. --Timenn-<talk> 10:01, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think its needed, i'm tempted to remove them all. But i'm going to ask the editor what he thinks, and what his reasoning his first before I do that. And maybe wait for an opinion or two --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 19:11, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
-
- When I first saw the tables it was obvious, (to me), that the region information was both missing, (i.e. it should be there), and important. You need to keep in mind how this page will be used by people, (I don't believe that Timenn's example will be common). People will be playing the game, (as I was when I first searched for the page), they will be in a certain area/hold and will want to know quickly which veins are nearby so that they can take advantage of being close to them. Yes, this information is available on other pages but that means in order to find the veins in a certain area the user has to click on every single place name in order to find out where these places are. Why not just have the information readily available? There is plenty of space available on the page for the column. It helps order the veins by Hold. It brings more structure to the information.
-
- Say for example I wanted to go to The Rift and mine Corundum Ore. There are 29 entries currently in that table and it's only going to get larger as more veins are found. Without the region column I'd have to click on all 29 location names to find out which of the veins are in The Rift. This just isn't necessary and would be hugely frustrating.
- Helgan 08:49, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

-
- Well, i'd say that this depends on browsing techniques. But I expect to have to click on the place name to find more information, or we might as well not have place pages at all and just have massive lists. We try to avoid massive lists where possible, and those long ones contain hardly any extra information that isn't needed. E.g. on lists of items we don't have a seperate column for locations. --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 21:14, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- I would also expect to click on a place name to find out more in depth information regarding that place. But if you're only interested in places in a certain region how do you know which places you need to click on? I would rather have that information shown in the table than have to click on all 29 places, (as in the Corundum Ore example). Your point about not needing place pages due to putting all of the information relating to a place in the table is a bit extreme - we're talking about a single piece of additional, (and in my opinion relevant), information. A precedent has already been set for this in the same table. Number of veins is already in both the table and the place page. Do you suggest removing that column from the table also? Ebony Ore
I found some ebony ore in The Brine Hammer below deck on a shelf, along with a few other random pieces of ore, I did not see any place where I could add that location that I found it in, so I am putting it in the talk page, it should be respawnable because it was not found in a chest. — Unsigned comment by Darku333 (talk • contribs) at 18:22 on 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Firewood Bug
When I started the game I would mine and get 3 of whatever ore and possibly some gems. Ever since the first time I chopped wood, I now get: 3 ore, random gems, and 6 firewood. It pops up a message that I received (2) firewood each time I receive 1 ore.
This occurs when I "use" the ore vein, but not when I equip a pickaxe and attack it.

Gloombound Ebony Veins
I found that when i entered gloombound on occasions, i would not let me mine any of the ebony veins even though i could see that they had respawned. It would let me mine the iron veins though. i walked out of the mine and back in and it must have refreshed itself or soemthing because suddenly i could mine them all again. — Unsigned comment by 203.173.15.98 (talk) at 10:27 on 6 December 2011 (UTC)

- After waiting 10, 30, and 60 days for the mine to respawn ore (and seeing the veins color change to indicate it should be okay to mine) Gloombound is still broken for me. Traveled to other cells when waiting, waited in the mine, and waited outside in the same hold as the mine. Patch v1.3, 4GB exe mod, otherwise vanilla installation (PC). Update - My character had a clipping issue with the veins that were not working; I was able to walk through each defective vein while other veins could be climbed on and were otherwise functional obstacles in game. Ended up disabling and re-enabling every ebony ore vein in the mine via console. After 10+ days the veins still could not be mined without console commands. (Note: This is probably a good thing but disable/enable does not reset the respawn timer, it just enables mining when it should be. At least that's what it looks like.) Anyone able to repeat my experience? 99.49.61.3 04:46, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Bug: Veins respawn visually only - not useable in game world.
I am consistently having a bug where if I mine a vein, either by hitting "Use" or by turbo-mining with two pickaxes, after 30-ish in-game days the vein of ore will be visually there (rocks get the coloured stripes again) but you cannot actually "Use" the ore vein and hitting it with pickaxes does nothing. several times i've experienced a glitch where i start the mining amination, and my character just keeps swinging his pick at the rock without gaining ores, its easily fixed by ending the amination and starting a new one but still kinda annoying. Cidnah Prison Mine - - - Markath
Please could a mod edit the description as the current one is incorrect / incomplete.
- The mine has 6 silver ore locations and some re-spawning silver ingots in the guards entrance.
- In order to access the mine before the "escape" quest you must be arrested in Markath and ask to go to jail.
- If you leave one ore untouched, attack all the others with pickaxes, and then mine the untouched ore by selecting it will let you use the mine.
- There is also a re-spawning pile of steel and silver ingots in the nearby blacksmiths workshop in Markath.
- The Cidnah mine key is quite easy to pickpocket from the bearded guard who stands by the two iron rings (wait for him to turn around) - but you should save before attempting.
- The guards will not arrest you, they will send for the city guard if they catch you stealing or lockpicking and attack you for anything else. — Unsigned comment by 77.102.214.28 (talk) at 06:14 on 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I can not mine ore at all even with a pickax.
Sometime after i broke out of the cidhna mines, there was a glitch that occurred and when i kinda went back in to see if i could mine any of the silver ore later on, i could but i had to manually wield the pickax like a weapon, then for some reason, when i went out into the wilderness to go mine some ore i found on the side of a mountain in the plains, near where the Hamir or Hamivr's res is, i could no longer mine any ore, it has perplexed me and i would like to know if this is at all fixable or do i have to completely restart the game all over again? — Unsigned comment by 71.233.61.184 (talk) at 01:18 on 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know if this is your problem, but a common (for me) glitch is that when I first move into an area I've mined previously that has respawned, it will not let me mine the ore veins. It won't work via the use key or manually by swinging the pickaxe. There are two workarounds for it that I've found or read about. First, you can leave the cell and return; this works best when it's an indoor zone such as a mine. Just leave and return, and you should be able to interact with the veins. The other way is to save, quit to the menu, then reload which works the same way. Doing a quicksave and reload won't work unless you fully leave the game. If that's not the issue you're having, then I have no idea.QuillanTalk 18:39, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

DB contains Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Geodes that guarantee 1 gem of that Geode around. I was wondering if this will be mentioned here as well as the new mines/ore deposits including Stalrim?--67.185.108.121 09:03, 13 December 2012 (GMT)
- Also Amethyst and Diamond. And don't forget Heartstone. As far as I know we don't have pages set up with geode/heartstone locations yet, though, so we'll have to do hat first before we can add links. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:30, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
Mining glitch: may or may not be limited to mining (PC)
I was about to mine, except when I pressed the button to begin mining it didn't, I pressed the button multiple times then moved to others, and alas, nothing. Until I went away from the area, defeatedly, for a short amount of time then for some reason, I was warped back to the first mining spot appeared to be mining, but gained nothing in the process so I walked away interrupting the mining process. This then happened several more times. Only when I was away from the deposits, it noted that I had obtained the ore usually once every couple of minutes. As I left the area and went into a dungeon, I attempted to mine ore there to no avail, nada. Now, there is a massive delay of activating anything, such as getting on a horse, or cleansing my Lycanthropy (Which took several saves and reloads to do, at least I managed that.). This started yesterday (Which was 2/9/13). This is the most bizzare glitch I have ever seen. Also, if this is the wrong place to post this, apologies. - Do you have any mods installed that may have triggered a bug? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:01, 11 February 2013 (GMT)
Even faster mining method
Here's a little method I've found to mine even faster, and I'd like to know if it works for anyone else.
Basically to make it work, you have to equip your pickaxe in the LEFT hand (has to be left hand or it doesn't work.) and be in 3rd person.
What you do is hit the left attack button as fast as you can, while simultaniously tapping your left and right buttons (A and S on PCs which this was tested on) as fast as you can.
sometimes you'll wind up hitting the ore vein multiple times per swing instead of just once. --Rylasasin (talk) 03:08, 17 February 2013 (GMT)
Ore Veins Not Respawning: Due to Unofficial Patch?
There are well-experienced players reporting they've never had this issue, yet it is commonly encountered, as the above entries indicate. It's been speculated that the problem may be associated with the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. Has anyone experienced the problem (especially veins in mines not respawning), and who does not have the Unofficial Patch? --JR (talk) 06:46, 26 February 2013 (GMT)
- Encountering the problem often — probably just my imagination, but even seemingly increasingly often lately — playing pure vanilla with only official patches on pc. (I am probably one of relatively few such purists among us here.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 07:34, 26 February 2013 (GMT)
- Are you SURE that you have waited long enough? If a dungeon has a 30 day respawn time (it was cleared entirely) then you must wait 30 days for those ore veins to respawn correctly. If you enter before that, some of them might not be respawned. 30 days is a long time in skyrim, is it possible that these many people simply didn't realize that they hadn't waited long enough? (as a note to morten, the more you play, the more often you are going to reenter a dungeon you already cleared looking for ore, that might be why it is happening more often now) Jeancey (talk) 16:36, 26 February 2013 (GMT)
- I agree with Jeancey here, 30 days is a very, very long time and if you ever enter the mine by mistake, the countdown is back to zero. I think most, if not all of those cases are people regulary checking if the veins have respawned, and unknowingly causing them not to. Elakyn (talk) 17:58, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

- Hm, this sort of happened to me right now outside at Brodir Grove (marked as cleared) with the Heartstone deposits. The Reavers respawned and the deposits have that glow again, but no way to activate them. I play on the PC and don't have the unofficial patch installed (but DG+HF+DB). Entering another cell (Abandoned Lodge interior) and returning fixed the problem. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:40, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

- Yes. The thing is the veins are clearly active again, with the texture changed back to unmined, but hitting the 'E' button when suggested during focusing on the vein does not activate the mining, but rather removes the alternative. The texture still indicates it as unmined. I can not remember for sure if leaving an re-entering the cell fully restores it as mineable, but I believe so. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:47, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

(←) Seems like it is more or less the same with stalhrim too. I re-entered Raven Rock Mine after having finished The Final Descent, where it had respawned and found the stalhrim deposit around the draugr seemingly respawned too. However it was not mineable, but it the draugr behind it, though not visible was lootable. Just leaving the mine and re-entering it made it mineable again. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:46, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
- I don't know if that's a vanilla issue or due to a mod (I use the glowing ore veins mod), but I have had this. It happens every time an ore deposit respawns for me. To fix it I either leave the cell and return, or save the game, quit to the main menu, and reload. At that point (forced reload of the cell) I can interact with the deposits. - It's worth noting that Raven Rock Mine is unusual in that it also has a whole bunch of walls that look like depleted ore veins, but are not. Pretty much most of the walls actually use the same texture as depleted veins, but are never mineable. So if you've already cleaned it out, the only way to tell the difference is either by memory or seeing where the NPCs are mining. They will only mine actual veins, even if they are already depleted. (I keep trying to tell them that if you're hitting that same rock more than 9 times in a row you're doing it wrong, but they never listen to me...) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:09, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
Respawn times
The article mentions that the ore veins respawn, but doesn't mention how long it takes, which is what I came to this page to find out. Could somebody who knows add that? 58.7.196.220 17:01, 7 May 2013 (GMT)

i just wonder if i emptied an ore vein if i waited for a while will it fill up again with the metal or it never comes back? — Unsigned comment by 37.123.75.216 (talk) at 13:06 on 24 June 2013 (GMT)
- If you had read this very page of which talk page you have put this question, you would have found the answer. —MortenOSlash (talk) 17:07, 24 June 2013 (GMT)
