Placing this on an article will let others know that you are working on it over a reasonable period of time. It will also place the article into the appropriate works in progress category. This template should be inserted into the top of a sandbox's parent (formal) article, to indicate the type of work being carried out, and the work still required or requested. To function as intended, this template needs 4 parameters filled within the brackets, including notes. The notes specify the involvement requested of other editors.

| 1 or editor | optional | Name of editor who is revamping the page (usually the same editor who is placing the tag). |
| 2 or sandbox | optional | Link to the sandbox (including namespace) in which current alterations are being made. |
| 3 or date | optional | Date on which WIP tag was placed. Date alone is sufficient but you can also use 5 tildes (date=08:06, 26 April 2011 (UTC)) to have the wiki fill in a full timestamp. |
| 4 or note | optional | Additional note or comment by the person editing the page. This can be used to indicate what's being done or note any discrepancies caused by the edits. Editors can also specify if assistance is preferred in the form of public edits, or thoughts on the talk page. |
| project | optional | The name of the project the page is being revised as a part of (e.g., "the Morrowind Redesign project"). |
