Template talk:Online Journal Entries

Alternative Name for Quest ProgressionEdit

I find "Quest Progression" to be a strange term. As far as I can tell (from its use on pages like Online:Soul Shriven in Coldharbour, it is just a marker of quest completion. Couldn't we just rename it "Completes quest"? Or if there could be multiple values (e.g. completion, failure), maybe we could have descriptive words (e.g. "Complete", "Failed") instead. -Thunderforge (talk) 05:24, 7 April 2014 (GMT)

The values it can take are "fin", "fail", "restart" and "start", indicating the stage which Completes, Fails or Restarts the quest respectively, and the stage which is the latest entry point to the quest if you find another quest giver other than the "first" one. We could indeed use Finishes quest as we do with the other instances of this template, but I wanted a header that was based on everything the column could show, rather than just one option. Maybe changing to the standard would be best for now and we can see if it works with all the options later on. --Enodoc (talk) 07:59, 7 April 2014 (GMT)

A minor spacing problemEdit

When you present the "choice" and there is three choices, the third choice text has a little issue with spacing. See Mud Ball Merriment, the following journal line: "Complete one: Pelt Dominion Ambassador Camore or Pelt Daggerfall Ambassador Arnand Relippe orPelt Ebonheart Ambassador Tolendos Dreloth". It can be fixed directly by just typing in the extra space, but I wonder if this can be changed in the template somewhere, for a more permanent fix? Tib (talk) 13:03, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Oops, sorry about that! Fixed. --Enodoc (talk) 13:27, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Layout for Quests with multiple pathsEdit

I'm quite new at recording quest stages, so I'm unsure how you would format the stages when multiple paths to complete a stage are available. For example:

Option 1- persuade/intimidate (Basically skips step)
Option 2- Pay money (Skips step)
Option 3- Need to do the legwork (bunch of little steps which lead to next stage)

I'm not sure how I would go about do that.--Talyyn (talk) 18:22, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

I don't actually remember many situations where the journal text differs based on those options, but have a look at {{Online Quest Objective}} for the different ways to display objectives. Hints and Choices may be relevant for what you need. --Enodoc (talk) 18:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Is there a specific quest you are wondering about? It could help if I knew exactly how the quest steps look like. Here is an example of a quest with different journal lines - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:An_Unexpected_Betrayal This quest https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Manor_of_Masques also has choices, but it's not complete, because only one choice is recorded right now. My example would be Raiders at the crossing (Yes I'm aware the steps look messy) early in the quest you have to get Silver-Paws to provide poultices. (See his red dialogue) The longer way is to get the commander to give you the bows as trade. Alternatively, you can either persuade or pay him which moves straight to the next step (Objective: Find the Baandari Herbalists)--Talyyn (talk) 11:31, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
I completed the quest on PTS, and this is how I record the stages if you go and look at my edit. From what it looks like, you were adding some options that are not in the journal. There is no need for that, because Journal Entries are just strictly for recording the journal itself, as it appears in the game, and nothing else. Additional hints and stuff can be for example be written in walkthroughs ;) Tib (talk) 18:49, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
