Lore:AshlandersEdit

I don't quite know what you're #ifeq was for, but it was missing the last two brackets to close it... so that might be why it didn't work. -- Kiz (email - talk) 22:40, 30 December 2013 (GMT)

Nope. Had the brackets, it just seems the template can't handle the amount of content I wanted it to encompass (most of the page). I was attempting to continue to allow the bulk of the page to transclude to Morrowind:Ashlanders, but limit the transclusion to Lore:Factions A to only the first couple paragraphs. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 22:44, 30 December 2013 (GMT)
I had a quick look and a poke, as I thought maybe you had just missed out the else delimiter, but on doing so I think I noticed the real problem: the place where you put the #ifeq is within a <noinclude> section. I'll see if I can fudge a fix for that. --Enodoc (talk) 00:11, 31 December 2013 (GMT)
That seems to have done it, thanks! Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 00:25, 31 December 2013 (GMT)

Imperial Legion DialogueEdit

Hey, I noticed on IRC that you were looking for Imperial Legion dialogue. Well, I've been working on programmatically extracting dialogue from the CS for a little while, so I just did the IL for you here. This includes all the dialogue that is specifically assigned to members of the Legion faction in the CS. You can view my raw data here, also filterable, if you want to dig any deeper. Hope it helps; the main reason I embarked on this project was to help find little tidbits to fill out Lore pages! -- Hargrimm(T) 01:05, 16 January 2014 (GMT)

Thank you; I'll be sure to take advantage of that in the future. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 14:55, 16 January 2014 (GMT)
Do you have something like this for Oblivion and Skyrim? Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 22:20, 31 January 2014 (GMT)

Pages you've tried to helpEdit

Just a thought for that section of your user page: what about formatting it like this? (Excuse the mix-and-match wiki/nowiki, but I wanted to show the shorter links while not cluttering your talk page with extra headers.)

I think that would also let you use {{LinkList}} for the first section, if you wanted to. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:47, 18 January 2014 (GMT)

Cool, thanks, I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually, when I have more time. Right now, I'm focusing on padding the stats so we can hit 20,000 articles on the wiki. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 01:52, 18 January 2014 (GMT)
Once ESO comes out, I'm sure that won't be a problem! Good reason, though. :) Robin Hood  (talk) 01:57, 18 January 2014 (GMT)
Bah, we'll have much better news items by then. We can do it now; we have the technology. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 02:01, 18 January 2014 (GMT)
For the sake of posterity, let me point out that I thought there were 2 pages on the deletion queue at the time which qualified as content pages. Turns out there were closer to a hundred. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 01:24, 16 February 2014 (GMT)

Dragon-bornEdit

Hello there. The line about the Nerevarine on the Lore:Dragonborn page... I wasn't really jumping to conclusions - my part about "from the Empire" was based on the line later in the same book: "Lines 1-3: 'Of ancient family, but not of the four great Ashlander clans. Born under foreign stars and the sign of the Dragon -- the Imperial sign.".

  • "But Dragon-born" = "the Imperial sign" (Symbol of the Empire).
  • "Far-star-marked" = "Born under foreign stars" (i.e. Not Morrowind AKA Outlander).

Thoughts? How did you interpret that line?

--Jimeee (talk) 18:40, 20 January 2014 (GMT)

My concern is that the reader's interpretation of the Lost Prophecy shouldn't be constricted by Gilvas Barelo's interpretation. He obviously thought it was just symbolically marking the Nerevarine as Imperial-born, but there's nothing preventing a more literal interpretation, if the reader so chooses. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 19:14, 20 January 2014 (GMT)
Hi again. Just to clarify (perhaps I'm reading your reply wrong - if so ignore this part), but I'm not saying the Nerevarine was of the Imperial race. Rather Gilvas Barelo is claiming he was born under the banner of the Empire.
Secondly, I was under the impression that as long as there is no conflicting evidence against a particular claim (be it a retcon/in-game dialogue or whatever), then in-game books are generally considered "true" - unless otherwise stated. We can all agree parts of the Pocket Guides are propaganda or inaccurate, but we still mention them in lore pages with some sort of explanation.
Perhaps I am explaining myself badly, so I'll give an example. On Lore:The Book of the Dragonborn we have added links to what various parts of the prophecy refer to in history - are we not doing the same thing here and projecting our own attempted translations onto the readers? Personally, I have no problem with the links (maybe one, but that's another matter :p) - but as far as I'm aware, no source explicitly translates what the line "When the Brass Tower walks and Time is reshaped" refers to, despite it being obvious to us. The topic of the Nerevarine Dragon-born comes up on lore forums now and them and with the link on Lost Prophecy leading back to the Lore:Dragonborn page, it may confuse new readers. Would you take issue if the note was expanded and explained a little better - something like: "The Nerevarine was referred to as "Dragon-born" in The Lost Prophecy. If this is meant as a literal interpretation or, as Gilvas Barelo asserts, born under the banner of the Empire is unknown." --Jimeee (talk) 17:42, 21 January 2014 (GMT)
I'm not treating Barelo's interpretation as wrong, but neither is it indisputable fact. It is what it is: one in-game person's interpretation. You'll want to talk to Kertaw about TBOTD links, but I found them illuminating. More to come; I'm working at the moment. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:33, 21 January 2014 (GMT)
No, I would not be opposed to that revision. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 19:17, 21 January 2014 (GMT)
(edit conflict) The stated wiki policy I've been told is that "lack of a secondary source to back the first will never be enough reason to remove something, only contrary sources, or something undermining the credibility of the source." I don't know of any sources that claim the Nerevarine was literally a Dragonborn, rather than the prophecy simply alluding to the common draconic symbology of the Empire. If there was a single dissenting or conflicting source, I could understand the reservations, but I just don't see anything. Plus, in my research for the page, the only use of the term 'Dragonborn' I ever saw in Morrowind and all previous games was purely as a title of Tiber Septim. I don't think the whole concept was really developed by Bethesda until Oblivion and beyond, so it seems even more of a stretch that they were foreshadowing it with a veiled reference in Morrowind. -- Hargrimm(T) 19:25, 21 January 2014 (GMT)
I think there's plenty of reason to believe that the concept of the Dragonborn had been conceived by the time of Morrowind's development. For one, the closely related concept of the thu'um had been established by then. We've since learned that the term Dragomborn has a greater meaning than the one Barelo attached to it, and it's plausible that he did not recognize its full import. Gotta go again. Lore:Ann MarieEdit

You have been given a wedge of cheese!!

Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you a wedge of cheese because of it. Good work! The user had the following to say:

"Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese. True?" For wading through the mess that was Lore:Sheogorath on my suggestion and coming out alive, if not unscathed, have some cheese. This is merely an acknowledgment of your endeavor, neither a complaint or congratulations. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:38, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

Lore and Pre-releaseEdit

I reverted an edit earlier on the grounds it was pre-release information (which I know we tried to keep to a minimum for Skyrim) but then noticed that similar edits had gone unchecked, I know current policy says to revert them but I was curious if you were leaving them for some reason (I would post on UESPWiki:Lore but it's more likely i'll get an answer here). --Kiz(email - talk) 17:13, 31 January 2014 (GMT)

I believe there have been one or two discussions about it. Personally, I don't mind if people want to get a little head start on adding pre-release stuff to the lore section. I mean, I made whole pages for Ayrenn, Jorunn, and Emeric, so I can hardly blame someone for adding more. If there's virtually no chance they're going to change something, I don't have a problem with it being in the lore. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 17:41, 31 January 2014 (GMT)
Right-o, I won't look in it anymore since i'm Lore-retarded on what is good/bad, but is the fact Werewolves are reanimatable lore-worthy? --Kiz(email - talk) 17:46, 31 January 2014 (GMT)
Eventually, sure. It would depend on whether Zenimax will ultimately keep that feature, and it seems like something which could be cut, so we may not want to jump the gun. Also, I'm not sure what the source is, but if it violates the NDA between Bethesda and the testers, I guess we're supposed to get rid of it. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 17:51, 31 January 2014 (GMT)

RacelinkEdit

Just for the record, race is "autolinked" in that template, so if you want to use a link, you just use one as normal (race=[[Lore:Kamal (race)|Kamal]]), but if you don't use a link, it'll do its best to make one, including stripping off any disambiguator when displayed (as you figured out). Template parametersEdit

Since in ESO books and notes for the most part aren't inventory items (some quest and profession related ones are), we won't need icons, weight, value, etc for all but a small number of them. Jeancey (talk) 20:05, 15 February 2014 (GMT)

Daggerfall/High Rock lore pagesEdit

I'm thinking that most if not all of these pages should be rewritten. In terms of lore, the only major places with these names were cities, and the pages were originally written from the Daggerfall perspective where the region around each city was referred to using the city's name, which doesn't seem to be the case for much of Tamrielic history. With only two exceptions that I can find (Glenumbra and Daenia), none of the regions in Daggerfall are considered regions in ESO, but rather simply as towns, cities and settlements. Would you agree with this assessment/proposal? Jeancey (talk) 18:00, 16 February 2014 (GMT)

Yes. We knew ESO would tell us more about these places, it's just a matter of incorporating the new info while preserving Daggerfall transclusions. Seems like the project could be incorporated into the lpp. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:12, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
Yeah. I'm just suggesting we shift the vast majority of them from region descriptions to settlement descriptions. This would also change the categorization of most of these pages, as they are currently marked as regions in the template. Jeancey (talk) 18:25, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
Makes sense. I've never liked how the Iliac Bay pages purport to represent both a city and a region, anyways. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 18:32, 16 February 2014 (GMT)

Monomyth spacingEdit

Hey, you've got inconsistent spacing in your Monomyth divided books for Online. Some have a space after the colon, some don't. There is a space in the game titles, but I'd be fine with either way. No matter what though, I figure they ought to be consistent. -- Hargrimm(T) 21:51, 17 February 2014 (GMT)

Ayleid lore-splurgeEdit

Not sure if you have already seen the new book (Lore:Ayleid Survivals in Valenwood), but the Ayleid lore page may be in for a treat! There is some interesting stuff about the Daedra/Aedra worship you were discussing. --Jimeee (talk) 16:40, 18 February 2014 (GMT)

Online: Books and NotesEdit

Hi Minor Edits! I see that when you add an ESO book to the Online namespace you also add it to the Lore. Do we need to do this for all the Notes as well? Even shopping lists? :) Thanks! ~ Shuryard (talk) 03:19, 1 March 2014 (GMT)

Nope. See Lore:Library. The vast majority of notes won't make it to the lore section (though they're not necessarily barred; if they have some substantial significance). Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 03:22, 1 March 2014 (GMT)
Makes sense. Thank you! ~ Shuryard (talk) 03:26, 1 March 2014 (GMT)
Some of the books that have been added to lore are actually notes, found only in one location. Any particular reason those deserve lore consideration? Just curious about your thinking. Jeancey (talk) 02:45, 7 March 2014 (GMT)
This is just my first pass for "lore-worthy" texts. I've been adding poems as a general rule. Some notes I thought have some lore significance. I've skipped many texts based on the Collection in which they're categorized (e.g., Notes and Memos), and some other texts I may have misjudged because they're part of "Lore and Culture" or some other seemingly relevant Collection. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 02:52, 7 March 2014 (GMT)
There are two specifically that I noticed, though at second glance you only added one of them. The Tale of the Two Moons and the Nedic Dueling Swords are ones that only appear in one location and don't seem particularly loreworthy to me, though that could just be me. Jeancey (talk) 02:56, 7 March 2014 (GMT)

Thanks for The Ruins of Kemel-Ze Articles for Online‎Edit

Just wanted to thank you for your creation of the pages for the Online version of The Ruins of Kemel-Ze. I particularly liked how you split it apart into four articles, then transcluded it into one larger one. That's all I have to say, no need to reply if you don't want to. I just wanted to make sure you knew your work was appreciated (I wish there was a "Thank" button on this wiki like there is on Wikipedia). -Thunderforge (talk) 07:45, 3 March 2014 (GMT)‎

Thanks; just wish I could do it right on the first pass. If it's not the sortkey, it's the noincludes, or stray brackets, etc., etc. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 07:59, 3 March 2014 (GMT)

Mentioned TextsEdit

Hi there. Do you think it's worth adding the mentioned texts that have an attributed author to Lore:Books by Author? So far I have only added the mentioned texts for existing authors, but I think it may be worth expanding. --Jimeee (talk) 15:20, 20 March 2014 (GMT)

Arena NamespaceEdit

Hi, I got your message but I'm a little confused, the only thing I've done in regards to Arena, besides adding it into the appearances of a few lore articles was add the game's smaller towns into the place article.Sithis be with you! (talk) 04:12, 30 March 2014 (GMT)

That's cool; I thought I might have been missing something. I wasn't aware of a town called Stonefalls in Arena, so when I saw that in particular, I assumed you were adding ESO info to Arena:Places. But if that's all Arena game data, it's all good. Sorry to distract you. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 04:15, 30 March 2014 (GMT)

GlamorilEdit

Following on from out previous discussion, I thought you might be interested in this. Apparently, in the last quest of the Mages Guild in ESO, Shalidor reveals that he created the Glamoril himself!? It's times like this I really want to play the game to get the full story :( --Jimeee (talk) 09:54, 16 April 2014 (GMT)

Cool. Me, too. But sating my curiosity just isn't worth a monthly subscription to me. Edit- although, with just that screenshot as my frame of reference, I think those words are open to interpretation. A scholar beginning work on an artifact doesn't necessarily mean he's creating it. Rather, he might have simply begun his work of studying it. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 14:10, 16 April 2014 (GMT)
Yes, the wording leads me to believe that too - but I'm just going by the comment of the person who posted the screen shot. They may very well be wrong. I'm just stoked Shalidor has finally made an appearance! :p --Jimeee (talk) 14:23, 16 April 2014 (GMT)

Interview with Todd HowardEdit

Hi again. I was thinking about the fan interview with Todd Howard that you recently used as a reference, and I'm not entirely sure its applicable any longer. Specifically the section: "That's the barrier that has been shut, you won’t see a daedra lord himself step into the mortal plane ever again.".

He does admit that this is subject to change, and indeed in Skyrim we see it happen with at least 2 Princes: Sanguine (He is certainly on Mundus "in the flesh") and Nocturnal ("It's been a number of years since I've set foot on your world."). Thoughts? --Jimeee (talk) 11:30, 22 April 2014 (GMT)

I think that sentence can't be read in isolation: Sheogorath’s gate is really an invitation to come to his realm, not a gateway he can send armies or himself through. That’s the barrier that has been shut, you won’t see a daedra lord himself step into the mortal plane ever again. So you can still have isolated mortals be summoned to a realm and you can still summon a daedra yourself through conjuration and other means
I don't find this necessarily inconsistent with the Skyrim appearances of Princes in Tamriel; I think they could reasonably fall into the "other means" he spoke of. And neither of those Princes appeared in Tamriel with armies of daedra, or even necessarily in all their power. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 14:59, 22 April 2014 (GMT)
Personally, the way he was worded it suggests the "other means" part is referring specifically to the individual summoning of lesser Daedra via a method that is not Conjuration, not the Princes themselves. It was reassurance to players that the Conjuration school/Lesser Daedra summoning won't be abolished in future games.
The "not a gateway he can send armies or himself through" part reads as two distinct, separate situations - either armies of Daedra or an individual Prince. A prince wouldn't need to appear with an army in tow (or vice versa) for this statement to be true.--Jimeee (talk) 15:25, 22 April 2014 (GMT)
But it does demonstrate that he is implicitly referring to large-scale interventions into Tamriel, not minute interactions like those we saw. Neither Sanguine or Nocturnal appeared as giant monsters wreaking havoc. They could easily be construed as mere diminished avatars, not Daedric Princes "in the flesh", in all their power and glory. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 15:34, 22 April 2014 (GMT)
I don't see how Nocturnal peeping her head out of a portal or Sanguine taking the form of an inebriated Breton conflicts with what that interview implied. We see what happens when the barrier is down in both Oblivion and ESO, and it's pretty distinctive. —Legoless (talk) 16:10, 22 April 2014 (GMT)

I thought you might be interested in this image. The Throat of the World wasn't one of the images you requested, but I figured I'd let you know that it can be seen in ESO. —Legoless (talk) 14:51, 18 July 2014 (GMT)

Nede Article New InformationEdit

Hi, I read your response to my proposal to rewrite the Nede article based on both information from both ESO and previous games, and was just wondering if you read through the links I posted and had any suggestions on what should be changed. I don't want to start any work on the page until I've gotten approval from a more experienced editor.--StormySkies (talk) 21:44, 2 August 2014 (GMT)

When dealing with potentially controversial edits, all I can offer is a series of cliches. The best thing you can do is to really know your sources and get an ironclad grip on the topic.
Don't make an argument. Well-written encyclopedias, like well-written news articles, don't make arguments; they state facts arranged in such a way to guide readers to the reasonable conclusion(s). Condition your sentences to carefully avoid overstating the sources you're relying upon. You overstate what your sources are actually saying, and you're going to get called out on it eventually. Don't get in between the reader and the sources, but wield the truth like a hammer to beat people into the correct understanding of the topic.
If you have to make an argument because the games have not explicitly enunciated something which you believe is a solid truth, make a sandbox and get community approval first, because any argument is going to be original research. Give people a chance to offer their objections/suggestions/threats up front. From the thread, it's not entirely clear just what you want the Nede lore page to say. A sandbox will make it crystal clear. You may want to turn this into a two-pronged process, where you revise the page with uncontroversial information, then make a separate sandbox with the potentially controversial information included and seek community approval for this on the talk page.
Don't forget images. Fragments from a Nedic poem, title unknown has an excellent one.
Edit mercilessly to make the page as flawless as you can, but at the same time, treat the existing words as holy. Rearrange, combine, and generally revise as necessary, but the less changes you actually make, the less pullback you're likely to receive. You're also likely to receive less pullback if the article is arranged similarly to articles on similar topics.
Finally, don't let people like me get in your way. I've been slowing down here lately because, like I said, it's vital to actually know your sources inside and out, and to understand how they fit into context with each other, and I don't have ESO. I imagine others are busy with other work on the wiki, or are actually playing the games. Point being, nobody wants to slow you down; I think we all want editors to be productive with their time here. if the community isn't moving at your pace, sometimes you just have set an ultimatum and hope for the best. More than once, I've just announced my plan on the talk page to make a potentially controversial revision in a certain amount of time "if there are no objections".
Good luck! Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 00:18, 3 August 2014 (GMT)

The Emperor's GuideEdit

I recall you mentioning you didn't buy ESO, so this may be of interest to you. The question is... since this set of books is essentially in the same vein as the Pocket Guides, they probably belong in the lore namespace too, right? --Jimeee (talk) 16:04, 22 October 2014 (GMT)

Planes of ExistenceEdit

Hey there, I haven't seen you around much for a while, and I was wondering if you were still aiming to update Planes of Oblivion to include Aetherius and other realms as Planes of Existence (and create Oblivion as a separate article). I'd be happy to help out with that. --Enodoc (talk) 16:08, 6 November 2014 (GMT)

I've been incredibly and unexpectedly busy lately. I'm 100% in support of that project, but I haven't had the time to pursue it. Thanks for that, for clarifying regarding the image descriptions. I'm just sorry I dawdled on it for so long! Any thoughts on what I should do next would be appreciated. True, but the races pages tend to overlap and do a lot of the heavy lifting. Elsweyr is probably the worst, but it would entail a lot of research and work on related subjects, as well, and I'm sure there's a lot of relevant ESO stuff I don't know. For now, I want to stick to a Third Era topic, as it will be easier to research... in fact, I think I'll just review the Third Era topic. Thanks, though. Hi! I was wandering (as a majority of your edits are in lore, is it "lore" or "Lore" grammar-wise btw?), is "Military Governor" General Tullius' title (amongst others maybe)? Here's the quote from Ralof, "Look at him. General Tullius the Military Governor. And it looks like the Thalmor are with him. Damn elves. I bet they had something to do with this." Because both words start with a capital letter, this has got me thinking hard at it, thinking the title is official. Thanks! Dragon Guard  (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2015 (GMT)

It's a little unclear since it's the only reference to it in the game. I think it's the position he held, but governors seem to go by their rank rather than title. I think it would only be appropriate to call him Governor if he wasn't a military official. The closest comparison in the lore is this guy. I would only capitalize lore if I was referring to the Lore section. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 20:19, 9 February 2015 (GMT)
Well, we could put on his page something among the lines of, "General Tullius (sometimes known as the Military Governor), is an Imperial <class>" If you ask me, I'd reckon Bethesda capitalised it for a valid reason. See my point? Additionally, he is in charge of Skyrim's Imperial Legion, so it seems logical that he would be the governor. A governor is basically someone who conducts the actions, affairs, and policies of things. It maybe be; certainly he might "govern" the Legion, but the Emperor and Jarl Elisif might be "above" him in terms of "position" (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong; I don't mind). Dragon Guard  (talk) 21:13, 9 February 2015 (GMT)
Personally, I think the opening line of the current article is perfect as-is, since Tullius essentially has two titles. 'General' is his military rank, and 'military governor' is his administrative title as the temporary leader of Imperial Skyrim while it's under Legion occupation. You don't capitalize a title unless using it as part of the person's name (so "Emperor Uriel Septim was the emperor", for instance). -- Hargrimm(T) 21:28, 9 February 2015 (GMT)
It would be worth noting his position as governor somewhere, but not in the opening sentence like that. He's not the Military Governor. —Legoless (talk) 22:35, 9 February 2015 (GMT)
I tweaked it a bit, hopefully it is satisfactory. Military Governor is moved out of the first sentence, capitalized, and there's no "the" involved. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 23:49, 9 February 2015 (GMT)
That's good. "Military Governor" was capitalised when Ralof said it, so it would be wrong to misrepresent the presentation of his dialogue (if that makes any sense). Dragon Guard  (talk) 08:21, 10 February 2015 (GMT)

IRCEdit

Could you jump on IRC real quick? I have a few questions on specific places and since it is a fairly large list, and the answers are just Yes or No, I thought IRC would be better than here. Thanks! Jeancey (talk) 23:52, 14 February 2015 (GMT)

Typos in BooksEdit

You've gotta let me know when we can look at all the books systematically. I found the ones by checking to see if they fixed typos in the most recent Online patch. I just looked at every page with the Sic tag on it in the Online namespace. Turns out, they fixed the first 50 or so. Then nothing after that. I'm thinking they actually used our sic tag as a guide of what needed to be fixed. I've suggested it to them in the past, and it looks like they took that suggestion. Jeancey (talk) 02:00, 24 April 2015 (GMT)

Do you know if the mined items list is up to date? Assuming it is, I've still got about a half-dozen lore pages which have some glaring issues to fix first. I could start at Z and work my way up in maybe a couple weeks? Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 02:12, 24 April 2015 (GMT)
From what I can tell, only brand new books are added with new text. So if the title of the book changes (which has happened) then the new text is there, otherwise, the old text remains. You'd have to double check with Dave though. On a related note to those lore pages.... the Fighters Guild page is SEVERELY lacking. Is that on your list? Jeancey (talk) 02:17, 24 April 2015 (GMT)
Eh... I guess they're not my cup of tea. Might be the most superficial faction in TES, actually. Maybe the Mages Guild someday, but a project that big will have to wait. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 03:03, 24 April 2015 (GMT)
Just for reference, the most up-to-date book text we have will be somewhere in the file eso-lang-march2015.zip (51 MB). These are .csv and entirely raw, but if you can find the right section (record ID set 21337012 for the text, also ID 51188213 for the book names), then you have a good starting point. If you have some sort of diff checker, all the better, as you can then compare with, for example, the Update 5 text in [esolang-nov.zip (49 MB). --Enodoc (talk) 08:21, 24 April 2015 (GMT)

Question - videos on the blogEdit

Hello! I noticed that you've been able to embed Youtube videos into blog posts (for instance, your Iliac Bay Overhaul one). Whenever I try, it complains about the iframe (if I try to use that) or says "invalid object" if I select the other video type options. How did you do it so that you were able to actually post it? ~ Alarra (talk) 09:12, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

There are two tabs when submitting a blog, Simple and Expert. If you're using the Expert tab, all you have to do is copy the video ID in the youtube url (right after "v=")and click the YouTube button on the Expert tab. The code should look like [video:youtube:videoIDhere]
Sorry for the late reply. Real-world stuff. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 15:13, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

ESO Console InfoEdit

Hey there, I was wondering if you may be able to help out with some details of ESO on consoles! I've contacted Jeancey already, and he seems to be quite busy at the moment, so I thought I'd ask for your assistance as well. First of all is the revamp of Online:Chat. I've started already with some of Jeancey's info and some stuff from YouTube videos, but it really needs the touch of someone who can actually check this stuff out. We need details on the different Voice Chat channels, a full list of Emote categories and the emotes included within them, and (eventually) the Emote actions that are connected to each Quick Chat phrase. Just a drip-feed is fine, and you could dump it on the talk page for me to format later if it's easier.

Second is quest icons. I'm looking to integrate the Quest Type Icons that were datamined into the Online Quest Header, as I believe they appear in the Journal in the console versions. While most of them are self-explanatory, I was wondering if you'd be able to let me know which quests appear with the Dungeon icon  , and which appear with the Group icon  , as the quests previously considered Dungeon quests are all Group quests, and the icon datamined for Dungeon quests is the Public Dungeon icon rather than the Group Dungeon icon, and all Public Dungeon quests have previously been considered Normal quests.

Thanks for any assistance! --Enodoc (talk) 22:36, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Sure, I'll see what I can do. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 23:01, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Is/Are Grammar HelpEdit

Hello! I was doing grammar checks on some pages (in particular the "Temple of The Divines" page) and I was wondering the correct use of "is/are" in the hybrid mix of UESP's grammar. Now, I'm pretty decent with American-English (at least that's what my last test said), but I'm pretty fuzzy on British-English grammar. The sentences I'm having trouble with are: "Further to the northeast are the sleeping quarters containing three single owned beds;.."; "On the right are a stack of crates with a potion of minor healing on top."; and "There are row upon row of wooden benches facing the shrines for visitors to sit in worship." I feel as though these (in normal American-English anyway) should have "is" instead of "are", but I don't know the proper usage on UESP and I was hoping you could clarify this for me. Thank you in advance, MetaCthulhu (talk) 21:38, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

I might get my terms mixed up here, but I believe it depends on the direct object of the sentence. "Further to the northeast are the sleeping quarters" is correct, because "are" is matching the plural "sleeping quarters". When in doubt, I find it helps to rearrange the sentence structure and see if it looks right. In this case, it's easier for me to tell that "The sleeping quarters is further to the northeast" would be wrong.
The second example is wrong, because "stack" is singular. Should be "On the right is a stack of crates[...]".
The third is a little tricky, because the original author could have meant "there is row upon row" or "there are rows upon rows". Changing it to "rows upon rows" risks changing the meaning. However, simply changing it to "There are rows of wooden benches" does not risk changing the meaning, and makes the sentence shorter. To ironically paraphrase Mark Twain, the fewer words used to convey the same meaning, the better the communication. Hope that helped. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 00:04, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
Also, in almost all cases, we use American English here, so collective nouns and the like generally follow the American style (e.g., "the team is", not "the team are"). Of course, in both the US and the UK, people take liberties, depending on what they're try to say (c.f., Oxford). The sole exception to using American style is that we use logical punctuation, which is often equated with the British, though technically not the exact same (c.f., Wikipedia). — Unsigned comment by RobinHood70 (talkcontribs) at 01:09 on 13 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I just want to make sure when I fix grammatical mistakes I don't accidentally make things worse. Quick question to just confirm some things: If "sleeping quarters" was the name of a group of rooms, (and not just using "sleeping" as a descriptor like the sentence we've already gone over) it would be singular, right? Because now it's a group? — Unsigned comment by MetaCthulhu (talkcontribs) at 19:54 on 13 September 2015 (UTC)
Precisely... well, if you mean if "sleeping quarters" was a game label, I think "are" would remain correct. However, the sentence were referring to the "sleeping wing of manor" (singular), "is" would be appropriate. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 20:24, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Question about ProjectsEdit

Hi Minor Edits! I have a question for you. If I wanted to create a project for the wiki, or I thought that a project should be created, what would be the best way to do that?
