The jailer

The Jailer is an Imperial guard in charge of the prison at Fort Pale Pass. He is having trouble getting a certain Stormcloak prisoner to cough up his secrets, and Legate Precilius Varro will ask you to help him during the related quest. If you choose to side with Bjarni and go on a rampage, the Jailer will be first to die during the prison break.

He sleeps from midnight to 8am in the fort dormitory, and then spends the next twelve hours patrolling the prison. At 8pm, he heads over to the mess hall in the Fort proper to have a four hour dinner.

He is equipped with Imperial light armor, bracers and boots, and is armed with an Imperial sword, bow and shield, and 120 steel arrows.

Quest-Related EventsEdit

After Legate Precilius Varro has tasked you with interrogating Bjarni Shatter-Stone and you've managed to extract some information from the sullen Stormcloak, the jailer will approach:

Bjarni: "Oh, Talos. Here comes the damned jailer. Just what I needed. Someone else to rub salt in the wound."
Jailer: "I see your interrogation's going well. Better than any of the other sops that've tried, at any rate."
Bjarni: "Bloody jailer. Come to gawk at the poor, helpless Stormcloak? You'll pay, damned Imperial. You'll all pay!"
Jailer: "You say that every day. Still haven't found a way to break through those bars, though, have you?"

After this he will turn to you:

"The information you've gotten out of him so far - good work. You've gotten the basics out of him, but the Legate needs to know everything we can possibly extract, so... Well, best not let the prisoner hear our little chat. Follow me."

Once you're back in his quarters, he will say:

"Thought we needed to get away from prying ears. Last thing we need is to let the prisoner in on your techniques. Now we know the guy's plot. Heard it straight from the horse's mouth. But we need to know more. This time, you need to take on a few different lines of attack. Find out who sent him, if he came with anyone else, and where they may be. And try not to lose track of time - the Penitus Oculatus will be here soon and the Legate wants us to get the information out of him, not them. Good luck."

With this, he will send you back to Bjarni to gather more intelligence. When you return, he will mutter:

"Bet he has connections..."
The prisoner is part of an organization called the Stormcloak Breakaways.
"Stormcloak Breakaways, eh? Hmm. So even Ulfric's Stormcloaks aren't extreme enough for some of his flunkies? Pfft. Stir-crazy Nords."
He has six accomplices. Maybe more.
"Six accomplices? Hmph. Not quite an army, but a formidable force given a clever and able commander."
That's all I know.
"I see. Well, thank you. I-"

At this point, he will be interrupted by Bjarni and his comrades attempting a jailbreak:

"What the- quick, follow me!"

He will rush into the cell area to engage them while telling you to warn Varro:

"Stendarr's mercy! Stormcloaks have breached the fort! I'll stand watch here and keep an eye on that damned prisoner. Go, find the Legate! Warn him! Let him know what's going on!"

Should instead side with Bjarni to aid in his escape, the Jailer will likely be the first casualty on the Imperial side. Once he hears the commotion he will cry:

"What in Oblivion...? By the Divines! Jailbreak! Jailbreak!"
