Druid Belaigh was a Breton[nb 1] member of the Eldertide Circle active in the twenty-third century of the First Era.[1][2] who defeated the sea monster Molmor and created Molmor Islet west of Galen's shore.
HistoryEdit
Little is known of Belaigh's life. She was born in the Systres Archipelago at some point between 1E 2230 and 1E 2240.[nb 2] In her youth the western coast of Galen was terrorized by a sea monster Molmor unleashed by the Sloads of Thras. After seven years of Molmor's terror, at some point between 1E 2250 and 1E 2260[nb 2] Baron-Admiral Bendu Olo issued a call for assistance, promising to grant any boon to whomsoever could defeat the creature. Many brave heroes hesitated to answer the call, as Molmor devoured nearly all who attempted to hunt it. It was then, that Belaigh, a young and untrained Eldrertide druid from Galen offered her services to the Baron-Admiral. She was slender as a reed, clad in rags, and below twenty years of age. She agreed to drive away the Molmor, but only after Admiral agreed to honor his promise to grant her any boon she could request. Bendu Olo agreed and dispatched one of his knights to travel with Belaigh to report her doings.
Belaigh traveled across the isle of Galen gathering various items necessary to defeat the monster. First, she climbed to the highest hill of the island and gathered a single flake of stone, and later she went to one of the forests and took an acorn from the mightiest oak. After collecting the first two ingredients she headed to one of the steaming vents to obtain a handful of ash. Finally, she headed to the center of the island, to the deep spring where she used the pure water to mold ash, acorn, and stone together.[1]
After preparations, she went down to the shore to find Molmor in the western bay. She called the beast, hurled the clod of stone, seed, ash, and water down to the beast's maw, and then called upon the Green to conjure vines from the beast's insides. The Molmor fell back into the sea, thrashing, and roaring. To the knight's astonishment, vines of living ivy erupted from the orifices that had before dripped slime. Its tentacles and flukes became like a stone and seized quickly to the seabed, and its jutting spines turned into trees. In the space of but a moment, the Molmor became a great sea rock draped in seaweed and crowned by a small forest.[1]
For her deed, she requested Bendu Olo to call back all his loggers and miners from Galen and stressed that the island should not be harmed to build the All Flags Navy fleet. Admiral reluctantly agreed and Galen was indeed spared any further damage. No other tales are told of Druid Belaigh, but the Molmor Islet remained in its place, west of Galen.[1]
