Bleak Falls Barrow is an old Nordic temple ruin in the snow-laden Brittleshin Hills that divides Whiterun Hold to the north from Falkreath Hold to the south.[1] The ruin stands out prominently above the town of Riverwood, the nearest settlement, and has inspired some fear in the local citizens.[2][3]
In 4E 201, the Last Dragonborn discovered the Dragonstone deep in the sanctum of the barrow, a stone tablet depicting a map of dragon burial mounds.[4] The Dragonborn also recovered a golden claw from a thief trying to access the inner sanctum.[5] The claw, which acted as a key to the sanctum, was passed down as an heirloom in the Valerius family of Riverwood.[6]
