The Earth Forge is a ruined Dwemer forge discovered by the Fighters Guild in the Second Era and used by their blacksmiths. Its location is a secret closely guarded by the guild;[1] it lies hidden somewhere in the Druadach Mountains of southwestern Skyrim, just north of the Hammerfell border. It is accessible from guildhalls across Tamriel via portal magic.[2]
HistoryEdit
The Earth Forge was built by the Dwemer prior to 1E 700 as a subterranean complex to tap into the intense heat of the molten lava found within its depths. They used this heat to forge superb metals.[3] After the race's disappearance following the Battle of Red Mountain, the forge fell into ruin and was lost.[4][5]
The ruins were discovered during the Interregnum of the Second Era by a group of Fighters Guild members that included the future guildmaster Merric at-Aswala.[4] The guild subsequently established a permanent presence at the site, making use of its forge and its other facilities to create arms for the guild.[1][6] However, they could not fully comprehend the Dwemer machinery and were unable to carry out repairs.[7] The guild's master craftsmen were given access to the forge, and crafting stations were set up for the guild's wood carvers and tailors as well to benefit from the site's fresh air.[1] The creative skill of the guild crafters imbued a number of the Earth Forge's crafting sites with the divine spark of creativity, transforming the local reality such that items crafted there possess certain unique attributes.[2][8]
Circa 2E 582, Merric at-Aswala used the Earth Forge to turn the Prismatic Core into a weapon that could be used to destroy the Mortuum Vivicus, a powerful weapon created by Molag Bal. Bal summoned his forces from Abagarlas to invade the forge in an attempt to stop the process, but Merric succeeded in forging the Prismatic Weapon.[9] The weapon was ultimately used by the Vestige to destroy the Mortuum Vivicus once and for all. A meeting of the guild's Council of Province Generals was subsequently held at the Earth Forge, where Merric was appointed as guildmaster.[10]
