The Earth Forge is a ruined Dwemer forge discovered by the Fighters Guild in the Second Era and used by their blacksmiths. Its location is a closely guarded secret by the guild,[1] though it was known to some other factions, unbeknownst to them, such as the Antiquarian Circle.[2][3] It lies hidden in the Druadach Mountains of southwestern Skyrim, just north of the Hammerfell border, not far away from the city of Markarth. It is accessible from guildhalls across Tamriel via portal magic.[4]
HistoryEdit
The Earth Forge was built by the Dwemer before 1E 700 as a subterranean complex to harness the intense heat of molten lava found within. They used this heat to forge exceptional metals.[5] After the Dwemer's disappearance following the Battle of Red Mountain, the forge fell into ruin and was lost.[6][7]
During the Interregnum of the Second Era, a group of Fighters Guild members, including future guildmaster Merric at-Aswala, discovered the ruins.[6] The guild established a permanent presence at the site, utilizing the forge and its facilities to create arms.[1][8] However, they could not fully understand the Dwemer machinery and were unable to make repairs.[9] The guild's master craftsmen were granted access to the forge, and crafting stations were set up for wood carvers and tailors as well to benefit from the fresh air.[1] The creative skills of the guild crafters imbued many of the Earth Forge's crafting sites with a divine spark, transforming the local reality to give crafted items unique attributes.[4][10]
Around 2E 582, Merric at-Aswala used the Earth Forge to turn the Prismatic Core into a weapon capable of destroying the Mortuum Vivicus, a powerful weapon created by Molag Bal. Bal summoned his forces from Abagarlas to invade the forge to stop the process, but Merric succeeded in forging the Prismatic Weapon.[11] The weapon was ultimately used by the Vestige to destroy the Mortuum Vivicus. A meeting of the guild's Council of Province Generals was later held at the Earth Forge, where Merric was appointed guildmaster.[12]
