House Deleyn is a royal family of Bretons from the kingdom of Daggerfall in the province of High Rock. The Deleyns are descendants of proud workers, whether it was horse breeders, farmhands, or cooks. Perhaps one of their most famous ancestors was Erric Deleyn, who is remembered today as the "Ivory Lord".[1] When Donel Deleyn became the King of Daggerfall, he ushered the Deleyn Dynasty, the kingdom's ruling family throughout the mid-Second Era.[2]
HistoryEdit
Erric Deleyn was born in the early First Era when High Rock was at war with the Alessian Order. His parents ran an inn in a small town and he lived a sheltered life. In secret, Erric practiced fighting techniques used by the local guards with his rusty sword and ill-fitted armor. One night, he stumbled on a group of mercenaries that planned to ambush an Alessian patrol.[1] Erric reluctantly joined the mercenary band and witnessed the bloodbath that ensued later.[3] In an attempt to run away from the battle, Erric impaled an Alessian officer and took his ivory horn. Before he had a chance to escape, he was shot down by an arrow and lost consciousness.[4] Since then, Erric Deleyn became a hero of renown and adopted the title of the Ivory Lord. He garnered a reputation for being a master hunter and tracked dangerous game from Skyrim to Valenwood. His death came at the hands of many assassins[5] and because of the legacy he left behind, he was buried in the Burial Mounds, a place where ancient heroes of the past were put to rest.[6]
In 2E 342, Donel Deleyn became the King of Daggerfall. To strengthen the house's power, Donel married Lady Sylvie Garclay of Aldcroft, while his sister, Genevieve married Serge of the Adlam Mining Conglomerate from Northmoor. Donel passed the throne to his young son, Anton I on the 17th of Hearthfire, 2E 401.[2][7] His mother, Queen Sylvie was at his side until her death on the 11th of Rain's Hand, 2E 408.[7] What Anton I's reign was like is currently unknown, though given that he was buried in the Tomb of Lost Kings,[8] a place where monarchs unfit to rest in Cath Bedraud are kept, it may speak to what kind of a ruler he was.[9] Anton I died on the 11th of Hearthfire, 2E 450 and buried with him was his jeweled crown and his seneschal, Magiul Shiana, who was bound to him even in death.[7]
Anton I's daughter, Donella became the Queen of Daggerfall after him. Donella had two children, the oldest being Anton II who was her successor. Because he passed away without children, the throne was passed to his nephew and only living heir, Bergamot in 2E 515. Bergamot ruled Daggerfall when Emperor Durcorach invaded High Rock.[2] He led the Knights of the Dragon in the defense of his city in 2E 542. Together with the other kings of High Rock, he created the first Daggerfall Covenant but later passed away when the Knahaten Flu broke out after 2E 560.[2][10]
The next Deleyn after him was Folbert the Wide, who assisted High King Emeric in the civil war against King Ranser and Rivenspire. Folbert was evidently jealous of Wayrest's rising prominence and believed it came from sheer luck. He also believed that if the opportunity arose, he would put Daggerfall back in the limelight.[2] This never came to be in his lifetime as he passed sometime later. His death was foreseen by the oracle wyress, Marieve.[11] By 2E 582, Daggerfall was ruled by King Casimir,[12][13] who survived an assassination attempt by the Bloodthorn Cult of Reachmen.[14]
