Hrormir's Icestaff (Oblivion)

Hrormir's Icestaff, also called the Staff of Hrormir, was made famous as the mighty weapon of Hrormir, a man featured in the Song of Hrormir. In the epic narrative, a soul of a man named Darfang was captured by Nocturnal, and Darfang was being puppeted to fight his companion Hrormir. Using the Icestaff, Hrormir struck Hrormir's shadow, revealing the Daedric Prince as the puppeteer. Seeing his friend's grief, Hrormir bargained to take his place as Nocturnal's plaything to free his friend's soul. Hrormir exploited wordplay in his oath to make his loyalty non-binding, and then stole her gray cowl from her and brought back light to the lands. This tale depicts Nocturnal as a "Shadowy Hag" who hid her hideous form with her cowl. In the morning after Hrormir had bedded Nocturnal, everyone saw her hideous form free from obstruction. In exchange for the cowl, Nocturnal released Hrormir and accepted her defeat.[1] The eventually fell into the hands of the Mages Guild. In 3E 433, the Thieves Guild stole the staff from the Arcane University in the Imperial City—evidently just to prove that they could, as it was soon returned to the mages' hands.[2]
