Karnwasten is a large natural cove on the northern face of Eton Nir, the largest mountain in the province of the Summerset Isles. For the longest time, this hidden port has served as a central hub for smuggling on the archipelago's main island. Many foreign ships come here since so few items from the mainland are allowed and nobles across the province pay good money for it.[1][2] By the late Second Era, there was a settlement present in the area of the same name. By the late Third Era, it was known as Karnwasten Moor and but previously it was called Karnstern Moor.[3][4]
HistoryEdit
A theory proposed by the Speluncus Tamrielicum is that the natural caves across Tamriel functioned like nodes and capillaries that pulsated the divine essence of the aedra that created it.[5]
In 2E 582, Karnwasten was occupied by the Night Runners, a clan of bandits prominent across Summerset Isle at the time. However, at the same time, the Abyssal Cabal, a secretive order of Sea Sload wizards arrived and spread themselves out across the island. The necromancer, K'Garza relocated to Karnwasten, but when the Night Runners retaliated, she defeated several raiding parties and resurrected the dead as her servants. The Night Runner captain made a deal with the Sea Sload, who allowed the bandits to continue their operation in Karnwasten while they provided subjects for her necromantic experiments.[6] K'Garza even entranced smugglers that docked on the port. One such case was when she brought Madja, the first mate on Captain Renzir's ship to her side and manipulated her to lead a mutiny. Although Madja was later defeated, K'Garza's undead littered the shores and so Renzir and other smugglers steered clear of Karnwasten.[7]
Eventually, the Divine Prosecution caught wind of the Sea Sload's activities in the north, so Battlereeve Tanerline sent a group of adventurers to look into this lead. But when communications went silent, the Battlereeve sent another newcomer to find them and report back. The newcomer was able to save the captured adventurers and return to Alinor with their new intel on the Abyssal Cabal.[8]
During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, the village of Karnwasten Moor is an active settlement. It was ruled by Lord Lillandman and had a rivalry with White Guard.[3] Karnwasten Moor was neighbored by several settlements, including Lillandril to the northeast and Sea Keep to the south-southeast.[9]
