Lore:Laumont

< Lore: Factions: L

The Laumont family is a Breton family renowned for their skill in blacksmithing, a reputation gained over the course of twelve generations. They run the Four Irons Smeltery where they sell their goods, but it is also a learning institution for blacksmiths throughout the world that wish to hone their craft. The Laumonts are qualified to work with metals known and unknown to both Men and Mer, from something as simple as copper, to exotic metals like ebony. Members of the Laumonts have forged blades for several dynasties. A notable example is using the rarest iron in Tamriel, which is described as "sky-iron" or "skyfallen iron". They used this sky-iron material for the blade of the ancient ruler of Camlorn, the Iron Son, who slew ten thousand warriors during his reign.[1][2][3][4]

The Laumont line is rumored to have originated from a union of Breton and flame atronach, or their children are born out of furnaces, though this is dismissed by some members of the family as exaggeration or embellishment.[1]

The Laumont family was still active during the turbulent times of the Interregnum, when they provided supplies for blacksmiths, as well as took on new apprentices for their smeltery. A notable example is Urbek, who seemingly developed the start of a printing press during their time under the guidance and supervision of Ludovic Laumont.[1]
