Nightingales are a type of small songbird known for their singing during the night.[1][2] Some artificial creations were named after nightingales,[1] and some factions, like the Nightingale Trinity, also took their name from these birds.[2] Additionally, some bards and famous individuals were known to adopt monikers inspired by nightingales.[3][4]

Summerset IslesEdit

Wind-up clockwork nightingales, which could fly across the room and sing when wound up, were among the creations of artisans from the Summerset Isles. One such individual, Galarniel of Firsthold, was known for crafting them during the Interregnum.[1]

The Nightingales and Jagar TharnEdit

Jagar Tharn, also known as the Nightingale

The group of thieves dedicated to the Daedric Prince Nocturnal, known as the Nightingale Trinity or simply the Nightingales,[5][6] was named after the nightingale birds and adopted avian imagery. The armor and banners of the Nightingale Trinity bore a crest featuring the symbol of a bird embracing a circle of undetailed blackness.[2][7][8]

Some bards adopt titles like "the Nightingale," after the songbird.[3] Among the most infamous examples was Jagar Tharn, who, under the guise of an enigmatic bard known only as the Nightingale—according to some sources—seduced Queen Barenziah and stole the Staff of Chaos.[4][9] However, an alternative account suggests that the bard who actually stole the Staff of Chaos was Drayven Indoril, a master thief and member of the Nightingale Trinity whom Tharn had hired for the task, with the truth later being covered up for political reasons.[10]
