Sivdur was an ancient Nord warrior or knight who was sworn to protect the Dragons during the Merethic Era. He was the first to be bestowed the katana Goldbrand, a blade forged by the Dragons of the North,[2][3] and known to embody the power of the Daedric Prince Boethiah.[2] He is the ancestor of the modern Battle-Born clan,[4] who are said to be among the first who lived in Whiterun.

HistoryEdit

Dragon CultEdit

During his life, Sivdur was known to own an amulet that was inscribed with the symbols of his rank and other honorifics. At some point, Sivdur developed a rivalry with Magrathi, an influential priest in the Dragon Cult. Magrathi is believed to have slain Sivdur's brother over rightful ownership of a silver mine. As such, he became known as Sivdur's betrayer, and his life-long enemy.[2][5] When he died, Sivdur was entombed within Sivdur's Respite, located somewhere in the mountains near Windhelm, with his own honor guard.[2][1]

LegacyEdit

Sivdur's blade Goldbrand passed through many hands over the centuries, eventually finding itself with Titus Mede II. Sometime after the Battle of the Red Ring, Goldbrand was returned to the tomb of Sivdur. Though whether the Emperor himself or one of his agents returned it is unknown. Mede II was said to have felt that he lacked the right to claim the blade, and that it should return to the one who it was first entrusted.[2]

After being returned to his tomb, ancient safeguards now protected the blade. The blade was to be a reward for whoever could return Sivdur's symbol of valor, his amulet, and bring the head of Sivdur's betrayer, the now undead Dragon Priest Magrathi.[4][5][1] Circa 4E 201, discovering the notes of a slain researcher at the Sacellum of Boethiah, the Last Dragonborn took on the task of retrieving the blade. The amulet was passed down from father to son for generations,[4] so retrieving it from the youngest member of clan Battle-Born proved a simple task. The Dragon Priest Magrathi was then slain and his tomb defiled, with both the skull and the amulet returned to Sivdur's tomb, it allowed entry, and Goldbrand was claimed by the Last Dragonborn.[1]
