Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Orders from CaiusEdit
The proverbial plot has thickened significantly by this point as Caius gives you a decoded copy of the original package you delivered to him, revealing that the Emperor intends to use you to fulfill the Nerevarine Prophecies, ensuring that things go his way. Caius will give you 200 gold and promote you to Finder of the Blades. He will instruct you to see Somutis Vunnis and Crulius Pontanian at Moonmoth Legion Fort (the fort is just east of Balmora, near the path to Arkngthand; Vunnis and Pontanian are in the chapel and the services hall, respectively) before heading up to see the leaders of the Nerevarine Cult at Urshilaku Camp, Sul-Matuul and Nibani Maesa. You can skip the visit to Moonmoth Legion Fort if you don't need any useful scrolls and potions, but they can be very handy at low levels; talk to Crulius and Somutis about essential supplies to receive the items.
Visit the Urshilaku CampEdit
The camp is quite far, up on the northern coast of Vvardenfell (it should be marked on your in-game map at this point). You could just walk north through the foyadas, but the journey may be dangerous due to, among other things, large numbers of cliff racers. It is not too far depending on how many dungeons and towns you stop at along the way (of course, this is half the fun, or perhaps more). The quickest way is to take the silt strider or the guild guide from Balmora to Ald'ruhn, and, from there, take the silt strider to either Khuul or Maar Gan. The camp is a little way east from Khuul and north from Maar Gan. The journey from Khuul is shorter and safer, though there are almost no places of interest along the way.
The camp is small, so be careful not to miss it. The Ashlanders are not particularly friendly but if you remember what Hassour told you about giving thoughtful gifts (items, bribes), you will make inroads into Urshilaku society easily. The hunters outside the yurts (huts) accept Trama Root, while Tussurradad accepts kwama eggs, both large and small. Alternatively, a simple Charm spell or a bribe of 100 gold will work on anybody (depending on your Speechcraft skill, 10 gold might work as well). If you are able to raise their disposition enough just via persuasion then you won't need to worry about gifts or bribes at all. In any case, once you have impressed one of residents, they will direct you to speak with Zabamund, Sul-Matuul's second, in his yurt.
Meet with ZabamundEdit
To speak with Zabamund, you must raise your disposition with him to around 70 or higher first. Zabamund will then ask you to give him a reason to let you meet with the Ashkhan. A variety of answers are at your disposal:
- Offer to fight a duel to the death under the condition that your level is at 6 or above
- Boast of your deeds if either your Speechcraft level is 30 or above or if your Reputation meets or exceeds a value of 20
- State all that you have learned of the Sixth House and the Nerevarine, provided your Speechcraft is at or above 30
- Offer a tribute of 200 gold pieces, without needing to raise Zabamund's disposition or possess any other skills
As a result of any successful approach, Zabamund next sends you to the Ashkhan's yurt.
Meet with Sul-MatuulEdit
If you have not first received permission from Zabamund, Sul-Matuul may immediately attack you. Once you have permission, however, there is no need to raise Sul-Matuul's disposition when meeting with him - he will speak to you straight away. As you are an outlander, Sul-Matuul is unsure of your intentions, and requires you to pass an initiation rite in order to be adopted into the Urshilaku Tribe as a Clanfriend. You are asked to travel to the tribal burial site and retrieve the Bonebiter Bow of Sul-Senipul, the weapon of his father. Upon returning with the bow, you will have proven your worth to the tribe.
Urshilaku Burial CavernsEdit
Directions to the Urshilaku Burial Caverns are given, but can be rather confusing, and take you there via a pointlessly long route. Ignore them, and head south-southeast from the camp for a short distance; if you reach Abinabi cave, go east. Note that the actual map name of the site is Urshilaku, Astral Burial (the chamber where you enter the caverns).
The caverns are larger than most of the tombs scattered throughout the island, and filled with skeletons and cave rats. Go through the Astral Burial chamber (the entrance area) into the Karma Burial, and then enter the Laterus Burial. You may visit the various chambers at each stage, but your goal lies within the Juno Burial, found at the top of the spiral. At the far end of this chamber you encounter the Wraith of Sul-Senipul who carries (but for some reason doesn't use) the Bonebiter Bow of Sul-Senipul, which you must retrieve.
Return to Sul-MatuulEdit
Upon your return with the bow to Sul-Matuul at the Urshilaku Camp, he congratulates you on completing the initiation rite and names you Clanfriend of the Ashlanders, thereby permitting you to talk to Nibani Maesa. As a bonus, you get to keep the bow and rest in any bed in the camp, although he prohibits you from stealing from any other member of your new faction.
Meet with Nibani MaesaEdit
Maesa is in the Wise Woman's Yurt and has lots of very important answers regarding the prophecy. When she has finished, ask her if you pass the test. (You must ask at this question, whether early or late, to get quest stage 60 in your Journal, or the quest will not be completed.) It seems that although you are not the Nerevarine, you are one who may become the Nerevarine. In order to know more, Maesa asks you to find the Lost Prophecies and bring them to her, so that she may guide you better. She also gives you a copy of The Stranger and The Seven Visions relating to the Nerevarine Prophecy. This extended conversation with Maesa produces many dialogue topics; you should probably explore all of them as they are more relevant than average to the main quest's plot and what is coming up in your adventures. When you have the required Journal entry, which ends with "Now it's time to report back to Caius", you may do so for your next assignment and a reward of 400 gold.
NotesEdit
- There is a large amount of loot in the Urshilaku Burial Caverns, including the sword Magebane and a Wizard's Staff. See Urshilaku Burial Caverns for details.
BugsEdit
- If you discovered the burial cave before the quest, killed the Wraith of Sul-Senipul without taking the bow, and his corpse has disappeared (after the usual 3 days) – or if you lost the bow in some other way – you will be unable to complete this quest normally. This, in turn, blocks further progress in the main quest. ?
- Speaking with Nuleno Tedas about the location of Urshilaku Camp before getting this quest may ruin the main quest order.
- If affected, use
SetJournalIndex A2_1_MeetSulMatuul 0
to temporary avoid it superseding previous quest dialogues.
- If affected, use
- You can enter the Wise Woman's Yurt immediately upon arriving in the camp, and get her to talk to you by raising her Disposition. However, this may result in some dialogue options not being available since it is out of sequence with the quest.
- Reaching quest stage 56 suggests a return to Cosades immediately ("This sounds like something to mention to Caius"), but is insufficient; you must get the quest stage 60 Journal entry, or Caius will not recognize that you've talked to Sul-Matuul and Maesa.
- While talking with Maesa, choosing the "Lost prophecies" topic before the "Pass the test" topic may make the latter dialogue option disappear, thus making impossible to get the quest stage 60 journal entry.

---|---|---|
Index | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
1 | Caius promoted me to Apprentice [sic] rank in the Blades, and gave me the Emperor's secret orders and told me to read them. The Emperor thinks the Nerevarine prophecies are genuine, and that I may be the Nerevarine. I'm being sent to the Urshilaku Camp to speak with the heads of the Nerevarine cult, Sul-Matuul and Nibani Maesa. I'll tell them my story, and tell them to test me against the Nerevarine prophecies, then report back to Caius. | |
5 | Nuleno Tedas gave me directions to Urshilaku camp. The camp is due north from Maar Gan, but high ridges lie in the way. Follow Foyada Bani-Dad, a deep ravine just north of Maar Gan, northwest to the sea. A shipwreck at the seamouth of the ravine is a landmark. Swim east around the headland. Pass east through the ruins of Assurnabitashpi Shrine. Urshilaku Camp lies east of the ruins, inland in a low hollow. | |
11 | I have slain an Urshilaku Ashlander. This will make my mission to speak with Sul-Matuul and Nibani Maesa more difficult. | |
13 | I have slain an Urshilaku Ashlander. This will make my mission to speak with Sul-Matuul and Nibani Maesa more difficult. | |
20 | I have been told to go speak with Zabamund, a gulakhan, Sul-Matuul's champion, in his Zabamund's yurt. If Zabamund gives me permission, then I may enter the ashkhan's yurt and speak with Sul-Matuul. | |
35 | I have persuaded Zabamund that I must speak to Sul-Matuul. Now I must go to the ashkhan's yurt and tell Sul-Matuul that Zabamund has sent me. | |
40 | Sul-Matuul has sent me to the Urshilaku Burial Caverns to fetch Sul-Senipul's Bonebiter Bow. Sul-Senipul was Sul-Matuul's father, and his spirit guards this bonemold long bow deep in the burial caverns. If I return to Sul-Matuul with this bow, he will adopt me into the Urshilaku tribe as a Clanfriend. And then Sul-Matuul will send me to the wise woman, Nibani Maesa, to be tested against the Nerevarine prophecies. | |
42 | I must go to Urshilaku Burial Caverns to retrieve Bonebiter, the bonemold long bow of Sul-Matuul's ancestor, Sul-Senipul. Sul-Matuul says that the Urshilaku Burial Caverns lie to the south-southeast of Urshilaku camp, halfway between the camp and the slopes of Red Mountain. He warns me that Ashlander ancestral spirits guard these burial chambers. | |
45 | I completed the initiation rite by bringing Sul-Senipul's Bonebiter Bow to Sul-Matuul. He has named me a Clanfriend of the Ashlanders He has also given me permission to go to the wise woman's yurt and speak with Nibani Maesa, who will examine me and test me against the Nerevarine prophecies. | |
51 | Nibani Maesa agrees that my aspect -- my birthsign -- and my uncertain parentage fit with the Nerevarine prophecies. But that is not sufficient proof that I am the Nerevarine. | |
52 | Nibani Maesa believes that the Nerevarine should bear the mark of the moon-and-star -- the mark of Indoril Nerevar's family standard. | |
53 | Nibani Maesa believes there is some connection between the recent attacks by mad cultists called 'sleepers' and the Nerevarine prophecies. | |
54 | Nibani Maesa recited the version of the Nerevarine prophecies she knows as 'the Stranger'. | |
55 | Nibani Maesa recited a version of the Nerevarine prophecies she calls 'Seven Visions of Seven Trials of the Incarnate'. | |
56 | The wise women know that some Nerevarine prophecies have been lost. But the Dissident Priests of the Temple study the Ashlander Nerevarine prophecies, and record them in books. Perhaps the lost prophecies can be found there. Nibani Maesa has asked me to go to the Dissident Priests, get them to show me the books, and to tell her what I find there. This sounds like something to mention to Caius. Maybe he'll know how to contact the Dissident Priests. | |
60 | Nibani Maesa says I am not the Nerevarine, but I may become the Nerevarine. It seems she is willing to help me unravel the Nerevarine prophecies and my part in them. She tells me to seek the lost prophecies among the Dissident priests of the Temple. If I bring these lost prophecies to her, she will be my guide. And she gave me copies of the Nerevarine prophecies called 'The Stranger' and 'The Seven Visions'. Now it's time to report back to Caius. |
