RumorsEdit

If you ask around Ald'ruhn for rumors (such as in the Mages Guild) you'll learn that Sanvyn Llethri, in the Llethri Manor Bedrooms in the Manor District, wishes to become a vampire. Make sure, however, not to speak with Movis Darys, since he is not a member of the Mages Guild and thus will attack you if you speak to him.

The Boy Who Would Be UndeadEdit

First, speak to Sanvyn's mother, Fathasa, who will be one of the few regular people that will tolerate speaking with you. Fathasa will say that her son thinks that vampirism is the way to achieve power and respect and that she wishes for you to tell him otherwise.

Convince the boy that he is foolishEdit

Speak with Sanvyn, just down the hall, using the topic "submit myself". Choose the responses "You are a foolish boy", "You are a ridiculous young man", "Stupid child", "You are too weak to be a vampire", and "You know nothing". Each insult will lower his disposition and increase his option to fight, so by the last insult he will most likely attack you. If you are so charming that he does not attack, just taunt him until he does. At this point, you should remember his mother's words and actually let the boy win ... yes, this will be hard and contrary to most people's instinct, but don't fight back. (If you're a powerful warrior, it's quite easy to kill him in one blow. Also, it is advisable for powerful warriors to unequip their armor since his dagger may break before the fight is over.) Once your health has been halved, Sanvyn will declare himself the winner, deciding that his opinion about vampires was indeed wrong.

Return to Fathasa to receive her enchanted ring (protects against fire).

NotesEdit

  • Sanvyn will stop attacking you once your health has reached half of whatever it was when you first met him, not necessarily half of your total if you went to him less than fully-healed. Thus, if you are a high level character with lots of health, you can expedite the process by simply doing this quest while already wounded. The simplest way to do this of course is to just sit out in the sun for a bit before going in.
  • His dagger can do up to 12 physical and 20 Fire Damage, compounded by your Vampiric Weakness to Fire, so if you are a very low level character, make sure you can take at least a few hits from that without dying.
  • The responses above each cause Sanvyn to lose 7 points of disposition and increase his Fight attribute by 5 for a total of -35 and +25 respectively. The alternative in each case lowers his disposition by 5 and increases his fight by 2.

  • You may not get a journal entry upon hearing rumors of Sanvyn's desire to become a vampire. ?
    •   You can fix this with the console command Journal VA_VampRich 10.

10 I have heard rumor that young Sanvyn Llethri wishes to become a vampire. And, although his parents are against it, he is actively pursuing this course.
20 I have spoken with Fathasa Llethri about her son, Sanvyn, who wishes to become a vampire. She, unlike most people, seems willing to speak to me, even though I am exactly what her son wishes to become. She has promised me a great reward if I can convince him not to pursue his quest for the unlife. She wishes for me to show her son that vampires are not as powerful as he believes.
30 I have agreed to try and convince Sanvyn Llethri not to become a vampire. From what his mother tells me, though, he is dead set on it. He believes the vampire to be the epitome of strength and power, and his mother would like me to convince him otherwise.
40 I have decided not to try and dissuade Sanvyn Llethri from trying to become a vampire. It is none of my business what this child does with his life.
50 I have spoken with Sanvyn Llethri in an attempt to dissuade him from becoming a vampire. He seems unconvinced, however. He is convinced that being a vampire is the height of power, and he will command respect by being one.
60 Sanvyn Llethri has become more and more agitated the more I try and convince him to abandon his quest to become a vampire. He is convinced that vampires are the height of power, and that without this kind of power, he will be weak and worthless forever.
65 I have fought Sanvyn Llethri, but he has gotten the better of me.
70 After allowing Sanvyn Llethri to fight me, and allowing him to get the better of me, the boy seems convinced that we vampires are not as all-powerful as he believed.
80 Finishes quest  Fathasa Llethri has thanked me for my help. In appreciation, she rewarded me with a magical ring that will protect me against fire damage.
90 Finishes quest  Sanvyn Llethri is dead.
