Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Revel in the FireEdit
After completing the Burning Trail, Ranaline will tell you to go to Mingo Cave while dressed as a member of the Mythic Dawn. She will mark the cave on your map; it is located south of Hircine's Shrine.
If you wish to infiltrate the meeting, be sure to put on the Mythic Dawn Hood and Robe given to you by Ranaline before entering the cave. If you unequip either of them while inside, the cultists will turn hostile. Of course, there is nothing preventing you from immediately going on the offensive if you prefer to attack the cultists immediately.
Although usually a monster dungeon, you will find that the interior of Mingo Cave has been converted to a lair by the cultists. Several Mythic Dawn Agents and Mythic Dawn Guards can be found within, and can be spoken with if you are wearing your disguise.
Head directly north through the cave until you enter a room containing three cages. Here you will find a female Dremora named Mehrunes' Harbinger, alongside three members of the Mythic Dawn and an Imperial Legion Soldier trapped in a cage.
Light the PyreEdit
If you chose to infiltrate the cave, the Harbinger will speak to you. She will instruct you to light the pyre beneath the soldier's cage to take his life and assert your hatred of the Septims. You can activate the Pyre Wood directly under the cage to kill the solider and progress the quest.
If you would rather save the soldier, you will need to kill the Mythic Dawn members present in the cave. Attacking any of them will immediately blow your cover and turn the other cultists hostile. Mehrunes' Harbinger is essential and immune to damage, and will not interfere.
Whichever option you choose, Mehrunes' Harbinger will be pleased. If you sacrifice the soldier, she will be satisfied that you obeyed Dagon's will. If you slay the cultists, she will instead praise you for purging those that were too weak to serve Dagon. As a reward, she will grant you access to Cataclysm equipment as an offering from Lord Dagon. She will then teach you the spell Summon Mehrunes' Harbinger, a zero-cost Conjuration spell that will allow you to summon her again at any time.
To complete the quest, you will need to summon the Harbinger and speak with her one final time. You can speak with her at any time to claim the rewards listed below.
RewardsEdit
After completing the quest, Mehrunes' Harbinger will give you as many copies as you like of the gear listed below. Each armor piece has both a light and heavy version with the same name. The items are leveled, meaning you can obtain more powerful copies as you level up. Each item has a value of zero, so you will not be able to sell extra copies.
In addition to the items granted by the Harbinger, Snak gra-Bura can outfit your horse with a matching set of horse armor.

NotesEdit
- The prisoner will thank you if you choose to save his life, but there is no way to free him from the cage.
- The prisoner can be interacted with over the top of the cage, however a text will display stating that the prisoner is too afraid to speak.
- The quest can be completed by using ranged attacks on the prisoner instead of lighting the pyre.
- Killing the prisoner will not count as a murder and will not initiate the Dark Brotherhood questline.

- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage (?) stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
