Verified: PC flies in opposite direction of final blow when killed with TCL turned on
I haven't verified it with OBSE, but I have tried it:
-
- With and without SI
- With and without the Unofficial Patch (Though it's not exactly a bug, so it probably won't be fixed.)
Your character will generally fly off in the opposite direction of the blow (away from the attacker). If you're hovering above them, you'll fly a ways into the air, and if you're below, you'll fall through the floor of the cell or worldspace. It isn't very significant; a split second later you'll get the "load previous save" screen. Since collision is off, there's no ricocheting off nearby objects.
My PC is right about 4 years old, 2GHz P4, 1.5GB RAM, GeForce 6600, 256MB VRAM. Windows XP Pro swapfile locked to 512MB. If I try to do this a second time without exiting out of and reloading the game, it will either hang or CTD.
During testing, it decided to hang once after the first attempt. On the second attempt, it would hang five times, and crashed to desktop four times. I didn't have to completely reboot my PC at any time. I did a total of ten runs, just 'cause I was bored. :) I suspect the hang the first time was because I had been doing other things on my PC without a reboot.
YMMV.
Steps to Reproduce:
-
- Turn on TCL.
- Find enemy or start attacking.
- Position yourself, then let them kill you. (Requires experimentation.)
- Wheee!!
- Reload save
- Repeat from step 2 to step 4.
- Sometimes repeat steps 5 and 6.
- Hang or CTD.
I vote to move both notes on TCL death to the Bugs/Glitches/Easter Eggs page, and just put a "See note" link in the command's description. Heh, death notes. I think I need a nap. :)

- I personally do not think this should be on the Oblivion:Glitches article simply becxause on Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed it quite clearly states "Glitches that are caused by console commands or other forms of cheating are not glitches" --Volanaro T • C • E 02:56, 22 August 2008 (EDT)
The setownership command
It's more then just make you own houses and containers, it also allowes you to own NPC's and creatures! I don't know if this is know already, but if you use it on a NPC(not sure) or a creature(tested it on Gray Wolf), they won't attack you, and if someone does attack you, they'll protect you!
Fun to use if you want to roleplay a beast tamer.
- Fun fact, if you use the setownership on a person, they will have 100 disposition to you, as if you used moddisposition on them. Guards will pay off your low level fines and people will sell things at a cheaper price, I have seen spells go for 0 gold (though it was a spell that a mod added....), but for some reason sometimes I cant get it to work on creatures such as wolves and the like. Is it possible to use this command on a cell to null trespassing? --M'aiq the Liar Talk 21:12, 12 October 2008 (EDT)
- No, you have to use the command setcellownership. Using
setcellownership <CellName>
will set the ownership of a cell to you. The game uses it too in some situations. --Timenn < talk > 08:55, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
I have been trying to do this for awhile, is it possible to use setownership or another console command to make an npc behave like a summon? In other words, follow you and fight for you. I know this makes them attack others that attack you, but they won't follow.24.7.129.84 00:25, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

- I don't Know there but console is manly a PC thing, so not likely. If I can just ask, whats the formid id for the first 2 digits for battlethorn castle, I need to create an Item for a micinama I'm creating.XD — Unsigned comment by 125.236.132.84 (talk) on 22 August 2008
Considering both the PS3 and 360 have the ability to plug in a keyboard I can't think of a good reason not to have the console due to its many uses. Except for people cheating to get the 360 achievements. But plenty of games have both cheats and a method to disable the achievements/trophies. Personally I'd be willing to PAY to have the console enabled again on the console version in the form of downloadable content.
What's the command that changes certain statistics in the 'achievements' section
For examble the 'skills trained' one ?

Merchant sell-list reset
The merchants seem not to reset or somehow clear their lists of items for sell. My favorite merchants have very large sell-menu (especially with the enchanted trash I've made for earning some money), that causes some troubles in game perfomance. I haven't found any console command, tool or mod that allows to clear/reset targeted shop (or all shops in the game). I hope there is any way to solve this problem without buying all that trash and putting it to some renewable container. Levinthann 15:45, 18 December 2008 (EST)
- You may have a custom mod messing with merchant inventory respawn. By default it resets every three game days. The settings are in the construction set under Gameplay > Settings. Scroll down to find iMerchantRespawnDay1 and iMerchantRespawnDay2. They are set to 0 and 3 by default. You'd have to load each of your suspected mods (select .esp and make it active), one at a time, to see which one is changing these settings. Hope that helps. Wistrik 21:05, 3 February 2009 (EST)
targeting
does target just mean aiming at something? because i do that then type the kill or createfullcharactercopy commands but it never works — Unsigned comment by 76.73.191.168 (talk) on 27 December 2008
- No, you have to click on them and then type in kill or createactorfullcopy --Oblivion Lover 20:49, 27 December 2008 (EST)

Removing quest items from inventory, without having to set each items quest status
Ok so I grabbed a whole load of SI and Oblivion related quest items from test cells. Using a mod I was able to remove all the Oblivion quest items with the removeallitems command, but the SI items stayed. Mainly gatekeeper parts, and such. How do I get rid of them? I also have some necklaces and such I can't get rid of. Daedryon•T•C•E• 10:26, 1 January 2009 (EST)

What is the cheat command to allow water breathing for my character?

setactorfullname For Objects?
Just wondering; if we want to rename a table, door, glass, bunch of grapes etc, is there a console command that lets us do that? setactorfullname only works on NPCs and creatures, of course.
--Use the setname command. Just type setname "objectnamehereinthequotes". I heard it's not permanent, but I've made my own custom items using it and the setweight command. (I made a bound warhammer out of a daedric warhammer by renaming it and making it weigh 0)
- setweight command is not found for me, and it's not listed in console command page, please tell me how you made it work
- I believe the commands are SetItemWeight and SetItemValue. Sadly, these affect ALL items of that Id, not just that specific reference. --Darkheart 20:20, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- I know this is old, but I have a question... I tried setname and it didn't work. Can anyone help? Because I want to rename objects too.--Arch-Mage Matt 14:55, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
setname
works pretty much as you'd expect (or at least as I'd expect): open the console, click on the item or NPC (or useprid
), then type in:setname "ObjectName"
. (Quotes aren't strictly necessary unless there are spaces or perhaps some other unusual characters in the name.) —Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 22:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

'setownership'
Is it possible to set ANY object as the player's property? I've been trying to 'own' Umbacano's house, but I'm not noticing any effect (e.g. doors to private areas continue to state that entering would be trespassing) and I'm beginning to wonder if there are limitations. 86.24.124.102 16:42, 11 May 2009 (EDT)
You need to use the SetCellOwnership command. That will make you own the cell for his manor. What I don't know is the precise name of that cell, so you could just try adding UmbacanoManor after the SCO part and see what happens...
Placeatme
- (Note that for archiving purposes, this question was removed from a section that was unedited for 2 years and placed in a section of its own.)
This is not a reply to your question, but rather a question of my own. I just thought it was too related to these questions to deserve a new section. Anyway, my question is this: If i use the placeatme command to create a monster, and then kill it, will the monster respawn later, will the body disappear or will the body stay there forever? ~ ArtisticPlatypus — Unsigned comment by 78.69.109.203 (talk) at 17:04 on 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- It will not respawn, because it wasn't created by a spawn point. As for whether the body will stay there or disappear after a few days, that depends on whether the creature or NPC is flagged as a quest item. If it is a quest item, the body will remain forever.
- However, that's separate to the issue of savegame bloating. Whether the savegame becomes bloated depends on whether the creature or NPC is a persistent reference. As far as I am aware, it is persistent references that cause bloating. As a general rule, if it's a named individual, it's persistent, and if it's a generic creature or NPC (e.g. a guard) it isn't. --Gaebrial 07:29, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Does anyone have a better detail about what global variables can be affected? For example, I tried modifying fMagicCasterSkillCostMult and fMagicCasterSkillCostBase, but to no avail. --DoubleN 21:00, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Infrered Receiver is built in.
When I try to use console comands with the [~] key, nothing happens. I am trying to use it on a nice laptop with a Infrared Recever built in. When I uninstal the Infrered thing, it just instals it self again. Most of the other drivers have a disable button, but this one does not. (The button is there but it is not hilighted in the way that lets you press it) What do I do. (I have no idea how to use mods like that ring one)
PS. what does the Infrared thing do anyway? 72.73.66.150 12:52, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- What I have been doing is starting up Oblivion and loading a save before the Infared Reciever has a chance to fully reinstall once Windows loads back up. It's annoying, but it's all I can do until i find a better solution. On a side note: the Infared Device is there so that you can use a remote with your computer/Windows Media Player.Vashmanseven 22:40, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
tlb
By accident I discovered a new console function, tlb. When entered it says "Lite Brite -> On" and everything appears as if its very sunny... Maybe this should be added to the page? — Unsigned comment by 82.171.160.201 (talk) at 10:15 on 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Syntax apparently not completely explained
Would someone please rewrite this article so that people who don't already know the proper syntax for these commands might actually make use of the information? I am following the instructions to the letter, and all I get are error messages. To use your own example, if I type "additem 0002299c 1" in the console, I should receive an Elven Cuirass in my inventory. Instead, I get the error message, "Function 'additem' requires a reference." It doesn't actually matter which command I use, I get a similar error message, sometimes with additional lines, such as "Script not recorded" or "Script not found". Clearly whoever wrote this did not completely describe the correct syntax, and the only reason there has not been an outcry before now is because most of you already know the correct syntax. I do not. Please rewrite this for the rest of us. Or, if a mod is actually required to make this work, name the mod and explain how we can get and install it. Thank you. 98.211.124.111 05:20, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- If you read the second paragraph under the General Information section, that'll address your first problem. Put simply, all you need to do is type
player.additem 0002299c 1
and you'll get what you were expecting. For the others, my suspicion would be that those are when you have typos in your commands, but I'm not 100% sure. If you can post back with specific times when you're getting those errors, hopefully we'll be able to help you and if appropriate, revise the article to help others. —Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 06:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)- Actually, the output line before the error message that says Compiled script not saved! explains why those commands didn't work. That usually appears when "a", there's a typo, or B. there's a missing parameter that's required to complete the command.--Darkheart 22:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Please Help!
Hi guys, I need help reviving an NPC I accidently offed a while back. It Gundar in Skingrad. I can't seem to figure out the syntax. I've tried to "enable" and "resurrect" with no luck as of yet. Any help would be great! — Unsigned comment by 209.2.173.130 (talk)
- You have to click on him with the console open to select him as a reference, THEN type in
resurrect

Adding items to NPC
I've noticed that if you add and equip items to an NPC through the console, the NPC's inventory resets when you fast travel. Does anyone know a way around this?
- No. The console only affects things in the short-term, and the NPC's inventory is completely preset through the CS. So whenever an item is added to an NPC via console, the inventory is reset when the NPC is loaded again. --Darkheart 01:06, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Do I have to download the Console? How exactly do I get it?
I have just recently purchased the PC version of Oblivion and can't seem to figure out how to open up the console, or for that matter, how to acquire it in the first place. Could someone please enlighten me as to how to get the console feature for the PC version? Please and thank you. Vashmanseven 06:24, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- No, you don't have to buy it, it's automatically included with the PC version. As it says in the article, just hit the ~ or ¬ key, depending on your keyboard layout. (Non-English keyboards may vary.) —Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 07:18, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- It wont work normally on Windows Vista or Windows 7. I did some more research and found that the Infared Device interferes with the tidle key function. In order to use the console, I need to re-uninstall the eHome Infared Device so that Oblivion detects the Tidle (~) key. I found a mod that was supposed to add a "Ring of Console" that when equipped opened the console, but it did not work. So far, deleting and re-deleting the eHome Device is the only effective way I have found to get the console to work on Vista/Windows 7. Vashmanseven 22:37, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, I'd heard of that problem but since I play on XP, I wasn't thinking of it. —Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 06:26, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

RID Prefixes
It might be helpful to clarify how to reference an RID when prefixing a command. For example, the following command gives the error message "Script command '28000ce9.addspell' not found."
28000ce9.addspell 000A97A8
(where 28000ce9 is an NPC, and 000A97A8 is the Defend spell)
Likewise, in a batch file prid does not work as indicated. This bat script:
prid 28000ce9
moveto player
...gives the error:
"Command moveto requires a reference."
Combined with the inability to use an RID prefix, following the instructions implies referenced batch scripts are impossible, which is obviously not the case.
