Should 1.5 Raminus Polus' Quest & 1.6 Hannibal Traven's Quests be their own subsections? It seems like they should just be headers under a general quest subsection.
I'm in two minds about this also. I'm yet to do most of these quests, but so far they've all been sequential so it would probably make most sense to have them just listed in the necessary order. Endareth 00:38, 29 March 2006 (EST)
- They are all sequential, except for a couple of Traven's that can be reversed. Still, they are listed in proper order even though they are split into subsections. Plus I've gone ahead and linked all the Mage's Guild Quest together from page to page. I don't think it really matters. - Ratwar
-
- Actually, the Recommendation quests are not sequential, and can be done in any order. I think it's a bit odd there are indications on each page saying "next" and "previous" as if alphabetical order is the only correct way to do these quests. I think on the Recommendation pages, the "next/previous" thing should be replaced just by an alphabetical list on each page. --TheRealLurlock 00:13, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
-
-
- I'd noticed that too and I agree, I think readers may get misled by the "next"/"previous" on those pages. An alphabetical list at the bottom of each page would be much more useful, then add at the bottom of the list the first post-recommendation quest.--Nephele 01:07, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

I've just been expelled from the guild for "stealing"! Got no idea where I did this? I thought it might be due to the "Necromancer's Moon" book so went back and checked my inventory, no soap... Where would this fit in here? Pseudopath 01:01, 2 April 2006 (GMT)
I have a question.. I saw here that you can have six people following you at once - five apprentices of the Arcane university and one murderer from the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary. Okay, I know about the murderer, and I managed to get an apprentice to follow me. But all the other apprentices/scholars just tell me they're busy. God, I sometimes wish you could just target a MG/DB/TG member and type 'expel' or something to that effect in the console when they're not nice to the head of the guild. Is this a rare bug I'm experiencing? Has anyone else managed to get 5 apprentices, or even 2, to follow him/her at the same time? I want an army >.< [Edit: [1] is what I get when I try to talk to Apprentices :(
I am also experiencing the problem with the mage apprentices refusing to follow me (as the Archmage). Is there a mod or a fix that will change this? - Reidy
- I was able to have three Apprentices follow me, but no more than that. The other ones gave me the same message.Mr. Spoon 22:01, 7 March 2008 (EST)

Chests under Chorrol Mages Guild Hall
I found some odd chests under the Chorrol Mages Guild Hall (tcl when you're in the hall), but they all say that they need a key. Any suggestions? 68.34.35.208 18:36, 21 June 2007 (EDT)
Mages Guild Suspension
It is possible to get suspended/kicked out of the Mages Guild even if you're the Arch-Mage. At least on the 360 version(NTSC, no patches installed). The article says, "It seems impossible to get kicked out if you're the Arch-Mage". --Sundaroct131088 09:57, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- What it means is that you don't get tossed out after the third violation; you will only have to collect the alchemy samples for Raminus Polus. --Saruuk 10:40, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- No you actually DO get tossed out. Just try it. --Sundaroct131088 11:41, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- Yes, but not permanently. I just tried it: one theft and one murder as Arch-mage. I got kicked out both times. After that, however, you will be arrested but never kicked out of the guild. I tried theft, murder, theft then murder... nothing. So yes you can get suspended, but not for good. Unless someone finds different. --RpehTalk 12:48, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- Well I was following the 100% completion guide which requires you to complete both suspension quests so I did both before becoming Arch Mage. Then after I became Arch Mage I recruited an Apprentice to go dungeon hunting and during the trip my summoned creature killed the apprentice and I got expelled the third time. Whenever I tried entering the Arch Mage's Lobby, the game automatically threw me out. I could no longer enter the university either. --Sundaroct131088 13:59, 1 September 2007 (EDT)

- FYI, I don't think it's a 360/PC difference. I know I've tried pretty hard on the 360 to get kicked out as Arch-Mage and failed. The exact same actions that would get me suspended for crimes #1 and #2 would be completely ignored at crime #3. I tried pickpocketing, assault, and murder. I would get arrested by the guards, but there would be no effect on my guild status. On the other hand, this was 360 with all patches... I don't see anything that seems related in the patch bug fixes, but it's possible the patches have changed this somehow. --NepheleTalk 14:29, 1 September 2007 (EDT)

Okay, Sundaroct131088 it looks like it's up to you to provide more detail. Can you tell us when you committed the crimes (I'm sounding like a policeman here!) and how that relates to when you became Arch-Mage? Then what you did after that? --RpehTalk 15:01, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- Problem solved. It seems if you had a clean sheet before becoming Arch Mage, you will not get expelled. I killed a mage scholar in the university and got a bounty of 80 but no expulsion. And no sample collection either even though it was my first infraction. --Sundaroct131088 10:54, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- I got the sample collection when I did it with a clean record. It seems there's several possible conditions here and definitely needs more research. --RpehTalk 13:17, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- I thieved from somebody twice from the Mages Guild before I was Arch-Mage. I did both first and second suspension quests. Now, I'm Arch-Mage, and I killed someone, which would be the third suspension. However, I didn't get a bounty, nor did I get a chance to redeem myself. Instead, when I walk into the Arch-Mage's Lobby, I'm teleported out, and my Mages Guild Key was removed. Any suggestions besides reloading a previous save? Koyo123 16:21, 5 August 2008 (EDT)

Warlock
When I bacame a warlock it said something like "you now always have access to the council" any idea what thats about?. 24.24.81.13 18:03, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
- The line you get is "You have now attained the rank of Warlock, and are freely able to access the Council Chamber." and "Council Chamber" refers to the next floor up in the tower. It means nobody will think you're trespassing if you use the teleporter to go up to the room with the big table. --RpehTalk 00:55, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

Leyawin Mages Guild
Does anyone know what those wierd glowing stones are in the leyawin mages guild? i cant use the console unlock thing [because] i [am] on [the] xbox. Do they do anything special?
Council Members
Two thoughts here. First, if the council members are in the game, isn't it more likely that the fifth member is Ocato? He's a Master-Wizard after all. Secondly, the text from the Tamriel article indicates that the council is five "archmagisters" - ie, five people of Arch-Mage rank. Oblivion has Traven, Morrowind had Trebonius and presumably other provinces have other arch mages. I think the council composition involves a certain amount of guesswork, which isn't good. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 03:31, 12 January 2008 (EST) I dispute! :D. Text ingame from the Manual of Spellcraft says "For more information, contact your local Mages Guild ArchMagister. I take this to mean the stewards of the local guild halls, since Traven certainly does not deal with recruitment and the lower ranks. I would say that the Council was intended to be in Cyrodiil since Traven refers to Caranya and Jarol being Council members. As for Ocato, 'tis possible that he is a Council member but since he is also Chancellor of the Elder Council I rather doubt it. While its not said explicitly, I believe Bothiel to be the elusive fifth magister, hence my article note. Robed Dawnbringer 13:27, 1 February 2008 (EST)
- I always thought that the people who wear the white mages robe are the members or ex-members. Of course this means that Arkved is one and that the guy who "reads trashy novels and stays up late" is an ex member. Arkved, I can actually slightly understand but... It would be a pain to go to I.C. every time that the council convenes. Just my thoughts--Drake3555 12:24, 22 July 2008 (EDT)
Skingrad Mages Guild Sales Refusal?
I've had rather an odd issue with the Skingrad Mages Guild members. They won't sell me anything. Or train me. I tried talking to all of them at several times of the day, to no avail. This comes up as rather a problem to me, since without Skingrad's Mages Guild it's impossible to get the Disintegrate Armor spell effect, and Disintegrate Weapon is only sold outside of them as rather an expensive spell from Gaspar. --Ein Dose, 25 January 2008
- yeah, I'm having the same problem, but with Chorrol. I don't know about your situation, but I've completed the Chorrol recommendation quest by giving the book to Teekeeus and nobody will sell me anything, which is a pain as I need (well, want) some spells that only a Chorrol guild member has. --Anoma lee 02:15, 9 February 2008 (EST)
-
- Are you sure that you're checking during times when the guild members offer their services? Each individual NPC's page (e.g., Alberic Litte, Angalmo, Athragar) lists details on exactly when it is possible to barter with that NPC. Each NPC's hours are different, and some can be unusual; for example, many take lunch breaks, sometimes at non-lunch hours such as 1pm to 3pm. So just randomly checking at a few different times of day is no guarantee that you will happen to talk to them at the right time. Completing quests has no impact on whether or not Mages Guild members offer services. --NepheleTalk 01:24, 15 February 2008 (EST)
-
-
- Yeah, for the record I was checking at multiple times of the day when they should have been selling to me, but I have since started a new game and I'm not longer affected by this, so it doesn't really matter anymore (to me. May still be affecting Ein Dose.) --Anoma lee 06:28, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Containers in Arch-Mages quarters are NOT SAFE
After I became Arch-Mage of the Mage's Guild, I didn;t quite know where I wanted to keep my mage's staff and Arch-Mages uniform. Now thinking that the Arch-Mages quarters were now essentially my house in the Arcane University, I decided to put them all in the dresser at the foot of the bed. A while later, I came back needing my Mage's Staff of Soul Trap and to my extreme dismay all those items were gone. So yeah, I'm not a real happy camper right now. Fair warning to all. --Mole126 19:13, 10 February 2008 (EST)

Desk Glitch
After completing the Mages Guild and entering the Arch-Mage's Quarters, I found a glitch in one of the dressers, but it doesn't do any harm. If you've already completed the Theives Guild Quest involving placing the Note inside the dresser, you can infinitely keep taking the note back, but still only have one. Altars Before Reccomendation??
I haven't tried this, and I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I wonder if it is possible to sneak up to the Arch-Mage's Quarters Before you are allowed in the Arcane University and use his Spellmaking and Enchanting Altars. i was just wondering about this so that you wouldn't necesarily HAVE to be allowed into the Arcane University to make use of the altars.--Blktiger0 14:47, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
- Nice idea, but the altars are only placed in the Arch-Mage's Quarters when you get the job. Before that they simply don't exist. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 14:58, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
- Hmmmm...darn thanks for clearifying, though--Blktiger0 15:00, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
If you have the Wizard's Tower game add-on on the Xbox 360 and buy the magetallow candles then you can use those altars and not even be in the mage's guild
Alchemy = Easy Gold?
Okay, so this is something I have been doing for quite a while. Quite simply, it is going to any of the Mages Guild Halls and taking all of their Alchemical Alembics, Calcinators, Retorts, and Mortar and Pestles, then going to the resident Alcehmist in the Hall and selling them back. At lower levels, you can earn a very decent amount of gold if you go to them all and do this. You can easily make at least 300 gold, but probably more, for each hall. With 7 guild halls and the Arcane Universtiy, at least 2,000 gold. (Only one Guild Hall actually refuses to let you collect the Alchemy items.)
- Just a little side note: Please check before you take the Alchemy Items! Some are personally owned and can only be stolen, so you'll be expelled. Just be careful…

Get 2 mage apprentices.
I noticed a glitch that when you ask the black haired mage apprenticed to follow me she accepts and then I asked another one to follow me and she would to because for some reason the game didn't count the black haired mage as a mage i have travling with me and if i ask another mage apprentice to travle with me before asking her she won't do it... but what i find really weird is that if the non black haired mage dies the black hair mage leaves your group immeditly and starts heading back to the university without you saying so.... Has this happaned to anyone else? — Unsigned comment by 72.161.203.13 (talk)

Looting MG Corpses
In the article it claims that looting the corpses of fellow members will get you kicked out. My character is currently has the position of Warlock and during the quest A Mage's Staff I relieved the corpses of the mages there (not the necromancers- Im not that dumb) of their gold and obviously for the key- I didn't get expelled. I might have assumed that it was because I needed to get the key for the quest but I did the same for the battlemages in the Anvil reccomendation (yes they both died, a legion soldier got involved so I had to do it all by my self) and for Fithragaer from Liberation or Apprehension?. I am still in the guild and these quests were quite a long time ago especially as I took a break from the MG quests to savour the Bruma Guild Hall. Can anyone clear this up for me?The-manta 06:59, 21 June 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah that's not true. I've removed the notes from the suspension reasons and generally cleaned it up. Good spot. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 05:27, 22 June 2008 (EDT)
- it is true, you only did not get kicked of because you're not inside of a mages guild building. Because on the mission that you have to go to Brumas mages guild to see why the master wizard of Bruma is not keeping in touch with the University in the imperial city, I took something from one of the dead bodies of one of the members and when I got back I got kicked off.— Unsigned comment by 67.83.101.1 (talk)
- No, it isn't. You must have done something else to cause your expulsion. I always loot the bodies of the dead mages in Bruma and have never been expelled. Furthermore, when you get expelled it happens instantly, not minutes later. I imagine you accidentally tried to pick the pocket of a mage in the Imperial City or something similar. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 04:00, 24 June 2008 (EDT)
You dont get kicked out for looting corpses, however, I have twice encountered glitches that have randomly kicked me out. I was kicked out upon entering the Inn of the Ill Omen and once randomly while riding a horse past Kavatch. ~Dragon~
- Another way (don't know if it was just me) is if you complete the Sanguine Daedric quest and fire the staff nearby while at the shrine, the priest there attacked me and two consecutive quest updates told me I had been kicked out of the mages and thieves giulds and removed both my guild master's keys — Unsigned comment by 86.134.23.223 (talk) at 13:11 on 22 May 2009
- That would make sense if someone was in your line of fire as you used the Sanguine Rose, as it counts as a hostile effect...though I'm at a loss as to who you could've attacked that would've kicked you out of both the Mages and Thieves Guilds. --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 23:38, 28 May 2009 (EDT)

Rusty Key?
I remember I found a key in the Leyawiin Mages Guild hall called A Rusty Key. Later, I was doing the Dark Brotherhood quest where you have to go to Nornal for a dead drop. I explored the rest of it and I opened a chest with the key I found. Is this a glitch? It seems pretty odd that someone in Leyawiin would just happen to have a key to a random chest in Nornal. Guild Visitors
I guess it is best to put this question here. Do the schedules of the visitors really need to be put on the guild pages? I mean, if someone was wanting to know the schedule of a certain NPC, then they wouldn't be looking on the guild page, but rather, the NPC's page. I find it an unnecessary doubling of information. –Elliot(T-C) 08:00, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I agree it is a bit double. But if we can make it look nice (Bravil Mages Guild visitors' section at this moment is not really pleasing to the eye), why not? I added the visitor hours for Baeralorn because there was a discussion concerning the visiting hours of regulars at the inn a few days back, and I thought we could add that information to the Guild Halls as well. It doesn't make sense how there is that there is no mention of the Kvatch Mages Guild.
