The Tower SentinelsEdit

You and Valsirenn walk into the study hall to find her being interrogated:

Earl Leythen: "No more sages need to die today, Sapiarch. Just give me the diamond keys."
Sapiarch Larnatille: "The Resolute Diamonds are not mine to give. Especially not to a Daedric cultist."

Speaking to her:

"You and your companion arrived in the proverbial nick of time. Now if you wouldn't mind, who in Oblivion are you and how did you know the College of Sapiarchs was under assault?"
The Ritemaster of the Psijic Order sent us to warn you. The Crystal Tower has been compromised.
"First this cultist leads an army of Daedra into our compound and demands I turn over the Resolute Diamonds. Now you arrive with a warning from the long-absent sages of Artaeum.
I think you need to explain yourself before we go any further."
Three Daedric Princes worked with the Sea Sloads to steal the Heart of Transparent Law.
"That's impossible. We would know if the tower's defenses had been breached... but it would explain the disasters currently befalling the Summerset Isle.
Let's say I believe you. What does the Ritemaster suggest as the next step?"
The Ritemaster is trying to locate the Heart. We need to keep the Daedric Princes out of the tower.
"A reasonable plan. But access to the tower requires the Resolute Diamonds, which are guarded by the tower sentinels. Only they can use the keys. I suppose they are the next targets.
We need to warn Hannayel and Imedril at the Illumination Academy."
I can go warn the tower sentinels.
"We appreciate your aid in this matter. Before you head to the Illumination Academy, perhaps you can have your friend get that... cultist... out of my compound.
As it is, it's going to take weeks to get rid of the stench of Daedra."
Tell me more about the tower sentinels.
"Every eleven years, two Sapiarchs are selected to undergo a long and extensive ritual to attune them to the Resolute Diamonds—the keys that open the Crystal Tower.
These sentinels guard the diamonds and utilize them to grant access to the tower."
No one else can use the diamonds?
"The azure diamonds are a matched set, specifically attuned to a pair of Sapiarchs at any given time. Only an attuned sentinel can use a diamond key, and both keys are required to open the path into the tower."
Then why does this Daedric cultist want the diamonds?
"Who can say how much the cultist actually knows about the diamonds and their function?
The Daedric Prince he serves, however, has magic enough to utilize the diamonds. That's why we must make sure the sentinels are safe and out of harm's way."
Tell me more about Hannayel and Imedril.
"In addition to their sentinel duties, Hannayel and Imedril also serve as scholars in the College of Sapiarchs. They have research to conduct, lectures to give.
For their own protection, however, their identities as sentinels are known only to a few."
Being a tower sentinel is a secret?
"That's our standard practice. Difficult times call for desperate measures, however. You need to know who they are so you can find them and return them to our compound.
Hannayel needed to use the Academy library and Imedril accompanied her."

As you turn around to speak with Valsirenn and Leythen, Larnatille moves away to tend to the injured Sapiarch Sinithrel:

Sapiarch Larnatille: "Let's leave these Psijics to their work. We have a college to put back together."

Speak to her before leaving and she'll say:

"The Illumination Academy lies to the east of Lillandril. That's the last known location of the tower sentinels, Hannayel and Imedril. May the eleven virtues of knowledge grant you the speed to reach them before the Court of Bedlam does."

A New AllianceEdit

Enter the council chamber and a heated discussion will be taking place:

Sapiarch Larnatille: "You can't make such demands. The Sapiarchs are the keepers of the Crystal Tower!"
Valsirenn: "This is about more than the College of Sapiarchs, Larnatille!"
Razum-dar: "If Raz could intervene? Perhaps we should hear from our newly arrived friend?"
Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "We concur with Razum-dar. Let us hear what the adventurer has to say."

Speak to her:

"The Sapiarchs recognize your bravery on our behalf in Lillandril and within the Crystal Tower.
But there is nothing you can say that will alter our thinking on this matter."
Without the wards that keep people out, you need a new way to protect the tower.
"So Valsirenn claims. If this is true, the College shall institute new measures to protect the tower. That is well within our capabilities.
The Psijic Order is responsible for all that has happened. Why should I trust them now?"
The Ritemaster wasn't in control of his actions.
"And that's supposed to convince me? That the very leader of the Psijic Order was compromised in such a manner?
We Sapiarchs have protected the tower for centuries without incident. Why should I trust the Psijics now?"
Without the actions of the Psijic Order, the Crystal Tower would have fallen to Nocturnal.
"Be that as it may, the Sapiarchs will continue to do as we always have. We shall protect the Crystal Tower.
Entrusting that responsibility to anyone else is just far too dangerous a risk to take."
The Sapiarchs can't protect the Crystal Tower alone.
"That's your opinion. You are a newcomer. I have no reason to believe that you have Summerset's best interests in mind.
For all I know, you and the Psijic Order wish to use the Crystal Tower for your own purposes."
I think you're making a mistake.
The Daedric Princes would have found a way, regardless of the Ritemaster's actions.
"Perhaps you're right, but the Sapiarchs did not cause these events. The Psijic Order did.
My people died protecting the Crystal Tower. Why should I accept aid from the very order that's responsible for their deaths?"
The Psijic Order helped me stop the Daedric Princes. Without them the tower would have fallen.
"Be that as it may, the Sapiarchs will continue to do as we always have. We shall protect the Crystal Tower.
Entrusting that responsibility to anyone else is just far too dangerous a risk to take."

At this point, two or three High Elves enter the room and endorse you for merit (depending on what quests have been completed). After all have had their say, Alwinarwe will continue:

Proxy Queen Alwinarwe: "We have heard enough! We accept that the adventurer is trustworthy. Sapiarch Larnatille, listen to what they have to say."'

Speak to her and she'll have changed her tune:

"I … apologize for my assumptions. It's clear you've done much good for Summerset and its people.
The protection of the Crystal Tower has been the Sapiarch's duty for time immemorial. To change that now feels like we've failed."
We need to make sure the Crystal Tower is protected into the future. So we don't fail again.
"I can't deny the truth of your words. Very well. Henceforth, the Sapiarchs will accept outside aid in order to best protect the Crystal Tower. I'll begin preparations immediately.
However, I still refuse to allow the Psijic Order to participate."
As long as you have a plan for protecting the Crystal Tower.
"I promise we will work with the Proxy Queen to make sure the Crystal Tower remains safe. I'll begin preparations immediately.
We'll even allow the Divine Prosecution and the Mages Guild to participate in these efforts."
That sounds like a good idea.

Speaking to her in the main hall, she will reassure you:

"Have no worries, I'm a Mer of my word. I'll begin preparations at once to decide on appropriate allies for the Crystal Tower's defenses.
It may not be a one day affair, but it shall be done."
