DialogueEdit

Each Magnate has a unique line. The pondering Nord on the left-hand side, next to a tall woman with a drink, talks about what he wishes to see in an auction.

"Do you know what I wish to see come up for sale? An item that demonstrates who the true rulers of Solitude are.
Something like a Jarl's ringfinger. Demanding you pay taxes with looks foolish when you have one of those on a chain around your neck."

The Altmer woman holding the drink next to the left of him is more interested in the other patrons.

"You know, as great as it is to be here to acquire some of these incredibly rare items the excitement of being here in disguise is half the fun! You'd be quite shocked to find what I'm wearing under these robes."

The Nord male in front of the odd Altmer with the drink is pondering his use of gold.

"Did I overbid that last auction? Ah, well."

There is an Altmer woman leaning against the wall to the right of the auctioneer's podium who is peeved by the local government's policies on incoming shipments.

"The decrees from the Blue Palace are simply absurd. Investigating transfers of suspected stolen property? Who cares where someone got it? If I want it, and they have it, I should be able to buy it!"

The Altmer woman right in front of the auctioneer's podium talks about her recent purchase.

"That white mammoth certainly drew quite a bit of interest! So glad I won. They're so rare! Let's just hope the Broker didn't cover a brown mammoth in talcum powder!
Oh, why am I worried? The Broker never lets us down."

Behind that woman is a painting. The Nord male behind said painting is excited to see what comes next. He is smoking a pipe.

"This is so thrilling! I can't wait to see the next offer."

That Nord is in front of another male Nord who is annoyed with his fellow magnates.

"I swear if I hear one more "let's have a peek behind your mask" innuendo, I'll kill someone."

Behind that Nord is a drunk Bosmer woman, who is talking to a female Altmer. You will interrupt the female Bosmer mid-conversation.

"…all I'm saying is, if the Jarl doesn't realize he's still paying double regular price, then who am I to tell him?
Excuse me, you're interrupting my conversation. Oh, and have someone clean up this wine."

The Altmer she's talking to is wondering what will come up next.

"I'm biding my time. I think the Broker has something truly magnificent for the finale. Like a Dragon horn, or a Snow Elf statue.
Ha! With the Broker, who knows?"

The Nord behind them isn't impressed with the contents of the auction.

"I'm not impressed with the offerings so far."

The male Nord near him is disappointed in the results of one of the bidding wars.

"I'm so disappointed that oaf won! I should have bid more."

Quest-Related EventsEdit

[...] Luckily, the broker identified the winner as an obnoxious drunkard. I should look for this inebriated buyer.

While speaking with the auctioneer about your interest in buying the lute that was up for auction, he will regretfully inform you that it was already sold but will mention the buyer was drunk and obnoxious. You will be then directed to speak with anyone holding a wine glass, however only one will be swaying and can be heard hiccuping.

Approach the Bosmer, who will now be even more sloshed than she was before. You will need to find some way to get the Petraloop from them.

"Oh look, another masked person. How dreary.
If a steak comes back up on the block, don't you outbid me! When else will I get to try Argonian? I hear they're all flavor and no fat. Hah!"'
Did you buy a musical instrument here?
"Instrument? Oh, that lute, yes. A mantel piece for my music room. Has a nice shine to it. I acquired it for a song. A song! I made a joke, see? Hah!
Why are you asking? Disappointed I bought it? Then too bad for you."
I was late and missed the bidding. Can I make you this offer? [led GoldLeveled Gold  ]
"Buy it? I would never … wait, you just handed me how much? Well, in that case of course you can.
Take this note and collect your treasure from my servant outside. Please do business with me again."
Glad we could come to an agreement.
I'm sure it will look good in your collection.
"Perhaps by the window that looks out on the thoroughfare. Watching those stuffy Antiquarians rave over dusty trinkets always gives me a laugh.
Whatever. It better be done by the time I return home or I'll whip those lazy servants!"
Enjoy the rest of the auction. [Steal the Lute]

If you exit the conversation without making a decision as to how to get the lute, she greets you with:

"Eh? What's that? Oh? No, but more wine, please.
Five thousand! Oh, wait—has the auction started? Oh, dash it all … seven thousand!"

If you decided to buy the musical instrument from her, she say the following after the transaction:

"You again. Well, make it quick before the next auction starts.
And did you tell someone to clean up this wine?"

However, if you decided to steal the instrument, you will need to head to her house opposite the Antiquarians Circle.
