Defeat Flame-Herald Bahsei after raising the challenge banner in Veteran Rockgrove.

Slay the Messenger is awarded for defeating Flame-Herald Bahsei in Veteran Rockgrove after raising the challenge banner, making the battle more difficult by the following:

  • The enemies will be generally stronger.
  • Creeping Eye portals: in the center appears a Creeping Eye, which has a circular area around it and 90° wide "cone of view" spanning to the edge of arena. After a short charge-up, both areas become active and send anyone caught in them to the "shadow" side of the arena. The direction that the eye "looks" initially, matches the directon Bahsei is facing at that moment. The eye will be turning clockwise or counter-clockwise (chosen randomly every time), very slowly at first, accelerating over time, effectively setting the time limit for this mechanic.
    • This mechanic is on timer, take care and plan dealing with Bahsei's summons accordingly. Also, as Creeping Eye forces the group to move around the arena, don't let summoned Abominations block the path with slam AoEs.
    • Soul Crusher: Important! - portal requires exactly three players to be in it to complete. Soul Crusher will kill everyone in portal after a short delay, if there are more than three players (closing the portal during that delay or reducing player count in portal prevents it). Triggering Soul Crusher doesn't wipe the rest of the group and may still be recovered.
    • Bitter Marrow: players in portal take slowly increasing ticks of damage.
    • Necrotic Essence: for each player in portal, a moving AoE spawns and follows them (lower Bahsei's health is, faster it moves). It explodes and kills the player on contact.
    • There are numerous wraiths (the starting count gets higher as the battle progresses), that die to any hit but reflect damage / deal damage back when hit[verification needed — not sure which exactly], so constant heal or other way of mitigating the damage is required. They all need to be killed to proceed, and will keep slowly spawning until that.
    • Once there are no more wraiths left, chasing AoEs disappear, and three synergy spots are revealed. Players need to stand on each of them, aim at the portal and use Creeping Eye synergy in sync to channel a beam of energy (as it only lasts for about 10 seconds, but can also be interrupted by holding block). While all three are synergizing, one similar point of synergy appears on the main arena, and using Creeping eye synergy there finally closes the portal. Channeling the beam also heals the player to help with now-increased portal's damage over time.
    • Malignant Marrow: lasting debuff that is placed on players in portal when it closes. Kills on entering another portal while it lasts, removed on death.
  • Faster meteor spawns[verification needed — seems so?]
