Quick WalkthroughEdit
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Head over to the city of Elinhir in eastern Craglorn. You will meet Fights-With-Tail and a couple of other citizens near the barred city entrance. Speak with Fights-With-Tail.
- "I can't believe it. So many dead. Our whole city in ruins. All because of those damn mages.
Please, you have to help us." - What's going on?
- "See for yourself. Ever since the head mage of Elinhir, Yamanu-ko, sealed herself in the Apex Tower, the Blackcaster mages have run wild in the streets. They're killing everyone—even each other!"
- Why would they do that?
- "I don't know. Some kind of spell? I'm no mage, just a butcher with a shop in the market square.
Minerva Lauzon's the only mage in the city that isn't madder than an Elf on Hist sap. She's in the sewerworks, helping the survivors escape." - I'll go find her. Stay put.
In the SewersEdit
Enter the Elinhir sewers and start moving towards the northwestern corner where Minerva Lauzon is. The path there goes via the central room, and you will encounter several groups of Spellfiends. Enter the sewers, head to the right, then climb up the incline. Then head to the back of the next chamber and turn left. Head straight and you'll arrive at the refugees' hideout.
When you enter, you hear Minerva arguing with a couple of other refugees. At first, Minerva treats you suspiciously.
- "I haven't seen you before. Who are you? How did you get in here?
I warn you, if you intend to harm these people, you will have to answer to me." - Calm down. I'm here to help.
- "You're here to help? That means Fights-With-Tail must have escaped. You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that.
Listen. The city won't be safe until the Blackcaster mages and their leader, Arch-Mage Yamanu-ko, are defeated." - Who are the Blackcaster mages?
- "They're an ancient order of mages, sworn to protect Elinhir. But they turned.
They hunted and killed every other mage in the city, harvesting the magicka from them. Everyone else was just in the way." - How do we defeat them?
- "Yamanu-ko is their leader. Defeating her should bring the others to their senses.
But her tower is warded, protected by strange Nedic devices in each of her apprentices' towers. You need to destroy these devices to reach Yamanu-ko." - I'll destroy the Nedic devices.
- "The devices are guarded by Yamanu-ko's apprentices, Leta and Avys, in their towers.
Once you've destroyed the devices and weakened the ward, I'll meet you at the base of Yamanu-ko's tower to finish breaking the spell."
Destroying the WardsEdit
Exit the sewers and proceed towards the western tower, which is the closer one. You need to kill a few groups of Blackcaster mages and their atronachs. Straight before the tower there is a gauntlet-type area where waves of Blackcaster mages continuously spawn. Make your way quickly up to the tower entrance and enter it as soon as you can. Kill the group of zombies on the first floor and enter the portal to the second floor. The second floor holds nothing of interest, apart from a few prisoners on both sides of the room, so go straight to the last floor.
On the third floor you will find Leta Doniticus, one of the apprentices you need to defeat during your quest. She will summon several zombies throughout the fight. Behind her is the West Tower Magic Focus—destroy it to weaken the ward.
Now you need to fight your way through the mages and their atronachs to the eastern tower. The first room of the tower has several clannfear and a boss, Nazullu. On the second floor you need to pass a puzzle in order to continue further. You need to make your way to the other side of the room, following a certain pattern. This might take a couple of times before you succeed. Activate the Guide Projector to have a spectral guide walk you across the room.
On the third floor you will meet and fight Avys Areleth, the second apprentice of Yamanu-ko. When Avys is defeated, destroy the second ward and exit via the portal in the back,
Enter the Apex Tower and Defeat Yamanu-koEdit
Head towards the southern part of the city to talk to Minerva. She is standing before the magically sealed entrance of the Apex Tower.
- "Arch-Mage Yamanu-ko is in this tower. We call it the Apex Tower. The arch-mages of Elinhir have occupied it for centuries.
It was our duty to protect the city. Instead, we leave a legacy of destruction." - Leta and Avys tried to stop me, but I brought down the wards.
- "Good. Then this barrier is Yamanu-ko's last defense. It should be weak enough for me to break now.
I'm afraid it will still take a great deal of my strength, however, so you will have to face Yamanu-ko alone." - I'm ready.
- "Be careful with the arch-mage. Yamanu-ko was powerful even before she learned the Serpent's wicked trick.
'She's only grown more powerful since, stealing magicka from her fellow mages and immersing herself in unspeakable rituals."
Watch as Minerva dispels the ward sealing the entrance. You can now enter the courtyard and head towards the Apex Tower. Yamanu-ko is waiting for you inside the Antechamber. She has zombies assisting her during the fight.
When you have dealt with Yamanu-ko, exit through the door you entered and Minerva will be in the tower. Speak with her to complete the quest, and she will open a portal to the Fights-With-Tail's location for you to escape.
- "I'm relieved that the city is safe, but I can't say I'm glad that Yamanu-ko's gone.
She taught me everything I know about magic. She always warned me about the temptations of power. For her to fall like this …." - What will you do now?
- "I suspect it will be a long time before the people of Elinhir trust mages again—and with good reason. The city is in ruins and it's our fault.
I'll seal off the mage towers and help rebuild the city. If they'll let me, that is."
NotesEdit
- Minerva Lauzon won't exist in the sewer before starting the quest.
- The sewer entrance within Elinhir that leads straight to Minerva Lauzon's room becomes inaccessible once the quest is started, but is usable beforehand.
- The Guide Activator in the western tower can be activated repeatedly while the guide is active, for no further effects.
BugsEdit
- When you complete Elinhir objective, the first lines of dialogue with Fights-With-Tail will change to resemble that and she will say:
- "I hear you defeated Yamanu-ko and her apprentices.
- It will take a long while for the city to get back to normal, but at least it's our city once more."
Since this quest is repeatable, further conversations with Fights-With-Tail might sound slightly strange when she on one hand compliments you on defeating Yamanu-ko, and on the other hand tells you that you need to defeat Yamanu-ko. ?

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
