Jala is a Nord merchant in Solitude. She runs a produce stand at the marketplace where she can be found most of the time.
When first entering Solitude, Jala will be present in the crowd. Once everything is done, she will resume her vendor duties at the marketplace. On a normal day, Jala will wake up at 6am in order to start selling produce early. She does this for 14 hours straight, after which she retires back to her house in order to wander around a bit inside. After 4 hours of this, she will head to bed at midnight.
She wears a set of green farm clothes and a pair of boots, and carries a small amount of gold along with the key to her house. She relies on a basic iron dagger for defense.
DialogueEdit
Like most marketplace vendors, Jala's greeting mostly consist of her peddling her wares:
- "You look like you could do with a ripe apple. Or a tomato, cabbage or leek?"
- "An apple to keep you healthy? A tomato to keep you strong? Surely you need one or the other..."
- "Fruit, fresh off the boat! The freshest in Skyrim!"
- "Get your fresh fruit and produce here!"
- "Apples, tomatoes, leeks and cabbages! Fresh and ripe!"
One notable outlier is this greeting in which she mentions her deceased brother:
- "You get around, right? If you come across any Stormcloaks... gut one for me. They did the same to my brother in Whiterun."
When spoken to, she may mention some current troubles:
- Don't you have trouble getting ripe goods here?
- "I have my ways, but it's not easy these days. The Blackblood Marauders have been plundering ships off the coast. A lot of people been hurt by their foolishness."
However, once these troubles are resolved, she will instead say:
- "It's been easier lately. The Blackblood Marauders haven't been seen since the Icerunner attack, so my shipments have been more regular."
You also ask her about her customers, to which she will reply differently depending on the progress of various quests:
- I bet you get some interesting people through here.
- "That I do. I had a messenger from Dragon Bridge stop here on his way to the Blue Palace, not too long ago." (If you haven't started The Man Who Cried Wolf)
- "At times. Jaree-Ra stopped by the other day. Told me to keep an eye out for him, see if any new people arrived in the city." (If you haven't yet started Lights Out!)
- "Everyone who's anyone. Viarmo bought an apple the other day, said he was looking for a new student." (If you haven't started Tending the Flames)
- "Not lately, business has been slow." (if none are applicable)
Upon exiting conversation she can say:
- "Come back when you figure out how to spend money."
- "I'll always have fruit to buy. Until it goes rotten. Then... I won't."
When first visiting Solitude, you will find Jala as part of the crowd watching the execution of Roggvir. She can be heard yelling:
- "Some gate guard you were!"
- "You betrayed us!"
If you try to speak to her there, she will just brush you off by saying:
- "Shhhhhh..."
She can also be heard booing Roggvir during this scene.
ConversationsEdit
Just like she says, Jala will meet with numerous people throughout the day.
- Aia: "There's nothing quite like a good vegetable."
- Jala: "Vegetables are the food of the Divines."
- Aia: "I've heard stanger [sic] things, [sic] are eaten over at the Temple of the Divines."
- Sorex: "I'll need a whole crate of fruit. That Varnius Junius went through quite a few of our supplies."
- Jala: "The guy in from Dragon Bridge? He didn't seem the type."
- Sorex: "You never can tell."
- Jala: "Hello, Silana. Would you like an apple? Free of charge for you."
- Silana: "That's generous, Jala, but I am happy to pay my way."
- Illdi: "How about I trade you a song for some fruit?"
- Jala: "You don't need my fruit, I've heard when you sing people throw tomatoes at you anyway."
- Rorlund: "Perhaps you could spare a tomato for a priest of the Divines?"
- Jala: "Perhaps if I were a little more blessed I could afford to give away my fruit. As is you'll have to pay, Rorlund."
- Ataf: "Um, excuse me. Could I buy two leeks. [sic]"
- Jala: "Fine, Ataf. You should eat some more tomatoes, though."
- Ataf: "My mother always used to say that too."
- Jawanan: "Your fruit are looking a little less ripe today." OR "Your selection looks very delicious. I'll take an apple."
- Jala: "It's those damned Blackblood Marauders. They're scaring off shipping." OR "One apple. Since the Blackbloods were dispatched I've had good luck getting shipments."
NotesEdit
- According to the Creation Kit, she is the girlfriend of Ahtar. There is no in-game reference to this, besides the fact that Ahtar also sleeps in Jala's house.
BugsEdit
- Considerable dialogue was written for Addvar and his various customers. Unfortunately, they were recorded in Jala's voice, and are mixed with Jala's other dialogue. See Addvar Bugs for this dialogue.
- Due to incorrect conditions, she will say the Blackblood Marauders are a problem even if you've wiped them out. Inversely she may also say they have not been seen since the Icerunner attack before you even begin the quest.
- The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, version 2.0.2, fixes this bug.
