Weylin about to attack Margret

Weylin is a Breton witchblade from Markarth. Up until recently an employee at the local smelter, Weylin lives in the Warrens, but will never be seen there because when you enter the city for the first time, he will attempt to murder a woman named Margret. You can either stop this by killing him, or let him commit the murder. If he is successful, the guards will immediately kill him.

He wears a set of miner's clothes, a pair of boots, and a pair of gloves. He is equipped with a steel dagger, and carries a selection of lower-class items and gold. He also knows the Destruction spell Flames.

Should you choose to investigate why he attacked Margret, you will eventually find a note in Weylin's room in the Warrens, telling him that he has been "chosen to strike fear in the heart of the Nords".

Quest-Related DialogueEdit

The Forsworn ConspiracyEdit

Shortly before killing Margret, he will yell:

"The Reach belongs to the Forsworn!"

While fighting the pursuing guards, he will shout:

"We are the rightful rulers of Markarth!"
"The old gods give me strength!"
"I bleed for the people of the Reach!"
"You have stepped on us long enough!"

Upon death, he will whisper:

"I die for my people."

NotesEdit

  • Weylin does not belong to any crime faction, and while this is in all likelihood a deliberate choice made by the developers, it results in a couple of behavioral quirks. For example, killing him does not count as murder. Any unprovoked action against him does counts assault, although nearby NPCs will not react to it, due to them being part of the crime faction of The Reach. Also, regardless of whether you killed him, stole from him, or assaulted him, you will never receive a bounty.
  • If you enter Markarth for this first time during A Night To Remember, Weylin's assault on Margret will not occur, as long as the marketplace is avoided.
