Dark Brotherhood encounter?

Has anyone included the random encounter when a dark brotherhood assassin attacks at random in the wilderness?--90.199.32.213 16:31, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, and I think I remember reading that on the page a while ago. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 18:38, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
It gets constantly removed (amongst others by me), the reason being that it is not a random encounter - it is a consequence of your previous deeds (i.e., you angered someone enough so he will send the DB after you . you'll know who when you read the contract). As such it is already referenced under "Consequences" and called "Revenge, Hired Thugs: Experience the consequences of killing someone (radiant quest)." So it's just one paragraph higher. --Ulkomaalainen 18:57, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
You don't know who hired the DB, It only says "somebody wants this person dead" or something like that. The regular thugs have a signed person who paid them though. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 20:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
None the less, it is not random. The assassin is scripted and the note has your name dynamically merged into the text. The assassin came for me once before I joined the Dark Brotherhood myself. It was directly after I had been rude to Sibbi Black-Briar in the Riften jail, so I guess he was the one who had preformed the Black Sacrament. (Or maybe a member of the Black-Briar clan did not have to even go through the Sacrament in those days.) --MortenOSlash 06:12, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, my bad - you only get to know who, when you get the thieving hired thugs. Still, as pointed out, it does not belong in the "random" category. --Ulkomaalainen 10:54, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
I desagree. Once, when going to Ivarstead without comiting any crime, encountered: a DB Assassin, The wandering bard, an agressive mercenary and a sabrecat. Given the heart full of anger from the AI, had to reload and then encountered: a Bandit, Faldrus, an Argonian (elemental mage) and a pair of skeevers. I Think the DB assassin may be a randon encounter, not just a consequence. — Unsigned comment by Elfslayerx (talkcontribs) at 23:06 on 18 January 2012
I also have had my first random encounter right after the beginning in Helgen on the way to Whiterun past Riverwood, and it was a DB assassin with my name on the note. I hadn't stolen or killed anyone who wasn't already attacking or been to Riften, so I think it's just random. Since then I've had 3 more assassins with the same exact note come after me. I play a good character and do no conjuration DB, thievery, etc.. I only get into those things after the main quest usually. --D. Gemini 07:40, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

() I think also that it might be random. Have Ulkomaalainen or MortenOSlash checked with the game editor that it really isn't random? -- MartinS 94.255.233.233 19:25, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Confirmed in the Creation Kit: this can be a random event. The quest ID is WEJS28 and the only prerequisite is that the player be level 5. Robin Hoodtalk 05:28, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Riderless Horse

The page contains this line:

A horse found standing alone in the wilderness. Taking it is counted as stealing the horse. There is usually a dead Bandit body on the ground where the horse is facing.

For what it's worth, I've found several riderless Horses, and have never found a Bandit's body nearby. The area is usually peppered with Iron Arrows, leading me to believe the Horse belongs to one of the mounted Hunter NPCs. Evil-i 21:03, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I also think it usually belongs to a hunter nearby as I usually find one, even with a dog too. But a few times I have noticed a dead body nearby the horse, can't remember if they were bandits or hunters, but now that I think about it I think they were hunters. --D. Gemini 07:43, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
These are (at least) two different random events. One is a Hunter or some other NPC on a horse that he owns, and the Hunter may sometimes be killed by local fauna, causing the owned horse to stand around wherever it was dismounted by the unlucky NPC. The other is a horse that is not owned (hover tip says Ride rather than Steal) with a bandit that is apparently spawned dead, as it is always lying face down on the ground in front of the horse in the same position. The latter horse can be taken and ridden freely, though it will not fast travel with you. GrogGrogGrog 14:33, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I implemented the first entry on riderless horses based on two different observations. I assumed then it was the same one type of random world interaction happening both places, but I now believe they were one of each type described by GrogGrogGrog. My first observation of a riderless horse was somewhere between Silent Moons Camp and Halted Streams Camp. Along it was a dead body. I have never had any encounter again there, not with a riderless horse, nor with anything else there (except a wolf or two occasionally found nearby). The second was on the road passing north by north east of North Shriedwind Bastion. Based on my later observations during later games, there seem to be a resident riding hunter in the area, so I believe there was that was his (or her?) horse left riderless after its owner's misfortune. --MortenOSlash 14:14, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Justiciar Execution Order only after attacking Justicars?

Under the "Other Random Events" section is listed as first bullet point: "Be attacked by Thalmor Justiciars with an Justiciar Execution Order for you." I am not certain, but I have the impression that the Justicar Execution Order is issued first time after the player has at least once been interfering with Thalmor business, like freeing a hostage? Anybody else under the same impression? If so, I believe it should have been moved to "Consequences". --MortenOSlash 06:00, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Off-hand, I don't see anything in the Creation Kit that would suggest that. Other than requiring that you be Level 8, it seems to be about as random as most other World Interactions. Robin Hoodtalk 04:14, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
That might explain it, as I think it might be around the time I reach level 8 or soon after I start to feel strong enough to attack a trio of Thalmor Justicars to free a hostage. --MortenOSlash 05:53, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

"Treasure Hunter" with note

Something I can't find described here: I found a dead NPC named Treasure Hunter with a note on the corpse that read "I've tracked the [generic leveled loot item] to [dungeon name]. It seems it's guarded by a [boss enemy name]." This has now happened twice. The first time it was some crappy bow in Hag's End and I read the note and ignored it. The second time it was an Orcish Bow of Thunderbolts in Pinemoon Cave guarded by a Master Vampire. The interesting thing is that after reading this second note, I actually got a Misc. quest objective pop up that said "Find the Orcish Bow of Thunderbolts in Pinemoon Cave." This quest objective did not appear the first time. However, I had already discovered Pinemoon Cave (it is white on my map) and I had not done so for Hag's End, which may possibly be the reason. I'll investigate further if I can stomach going all the way to Hag's End for a stupid bow that turns level 3 undead or whatever. GrogGrogGrog 14:47, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

I just confirmed it in the Creation Kit and added it to the list. It looks like maybe the first time, and only the first time, you get such a quest, it won't have objectives. I'm nowhere near certain of that, though—I find World Interactions one of the hardest quest styles to decipher. Robin Hoodtalk 21:10, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Flower basket?

I exited Breezehome after storing some stuff and I saw a flower basket on the foot path and a few paces away were 3 flowers. Is this meant to happen? Or did someone just somehow "drop" their belongings? I was able to take them without consequences. --Sencilia 15:36, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

I think someone dropped it, there are a few NPCs who carry flower baskets, Ysolda to name one, and she walks over that area. Just an accident. The Silencer has spoken 18:15, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Verification Needed for Old Orc with sabre tooth's

Is this a necessary part of the encounter or incidental? In my game it has never occurred and I have met the Old Orc 6+ times (I think it is more like 12+ but I stopped counting at 6) and he usually did not have any dead creatures around him. I have seen him kill two sabre tooth's and helped him kill a giant, however. Coronus 04:00, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

I've met him once and the two dead sabre cats were not far away. eshetalk 04:02, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Based on Eric Snowmane's revert, I think it must be a possible part of the encounter. My question is whether it is a necessary part based on the absence in my game. If I am the only one who is experiencing this absence then its probably just a generation bug in my game. If there are other instances, however, then it might only be an optional aspect of the encounter. Coronus 04:15, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Maybe when he spawns, they spawn nearby, so they may or may not actually be killed when you find them, and are just in another nearby spot. Or, they get distracted by something else... Idk, but I do think that they are related to the interaction, as often as they are there. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 04:19, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
I've also encountered him with the sabre cats, a couple times when they were already dead, and once when he was just starting to fight them. ABCface 05:11, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Observed the dead sabre cats too. PC version, if that is relevant. --MortenOSlash 07:08, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

() Four people verifying this in three hours time seems enough verification to me. I removed the VN tag, and reworded it slightly since the sabre cats don't seem to always be dead yet when you encounter him. ABCface 07:20, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

I remember seeing the sabre cats in the Creation Kit - they're definitely part of the encounter. I'm pretty sure they're always dead, but I don't have the CK open right now and it takes forever to load on my machine. I have to catch up on some patrolling tomorrow, so I'll re-check this then if no one else has by that time. Robin Hoodtalk 08:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm seeing the Sabre Cats too (Quest WE24). I don't understand what I'm looking at well enough to explain why some people see them and some people don't, but they're definitely in the quest (marked as "Dead" and "Optional - No"). eshetalk 14:18, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Weird that they are marked as dead, I definitely remember one encounter when they were alive. ABCface 14:27, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Good we have a CK confirmation on that. My system must be bugged. In hindsight, that is not too surprising considering the sheer number of times I have met the Old Orc (him and the skooma dealers just won't leave me alone). Coronus 18:42, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

() To further confirm, past the "allow dead" marker (which doesn't necessarily kill it, just allows it to load if dead, but EncSabreCat doesn't start out dead), its script includes a line called "KillOnLoad". The orc has a package that allows him to wander up to a radius of 512 away from his spawn point, so maybe you're just too far away from the sabre cats? Vely►Talk►Email 19:41, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I've confirmed the KillOnLoad in the script as well (whether it's true or false is set in the script's Properties window if anyone's looking for it). For the issue of there being live sabre cats, it's entirely possible that there are coincidentally sabre cats nearby...there are several points where they can spawn. As for there being no dead ones, it's possible you've wandered by the Old Orc and drawn him far away from the sabre cats. Or the scene may have spawned a long time ago, relatively, and you didn't notice, in which case I think the sabre cats would be cleaned up after the usual amount of time. The more complex possibility is that some locations may have WESceneCenter markers (where the Old Orc spawns), but no WEScene markers or WEScene markers that are very far away (where the sabre cats spawn). If there are no WEScene markers at all, I believe the quest would proceed as normal, but without sabre cats. Those of you with the CK can see these by looking at the XMarkerHeading object(s) in a cell, then scroll over to the Loc Ref Type column in the list or Location Ref Type tab in the marker object window. Clear as mud now? I'm afraid I can't really explain a lot more clearly than that...it's a very complex system, and I'm only just beginning to understand the full details myself. Robin Hoodtalk 21:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense. The sabre cats I saw killed were from locations that I knew them to spawn at which is why I assumed the dead ones mentioned were just another instance of incidental kills initially. I usually walk everywhere to better enjoy the scenery so many of my encounters are probably spawned well in advance. Thanks for the confirmation everyone! Coronus 04:17, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Insulted at Vilemyr Inn

I was insulted by an NPC named "Redguard" inside the Vilemyr in, but not attacked outright like was noted in one of the random encounters. He didn't attack me until I spoke to him. Does this sound like a random encounter to anybody else? It took place indoors, unlike most other randoms. --Xyzzy 16:41, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

I was experimenting with the random encounter point south of Rorikstead, and encountered him again there. Same as I experienced at Vilemyr Inn; he said something like "What's a milk-drinker like you doing out here." I then initiated conversation with him, and had the option of persuading him, which caused him to move along, or intimidating him, which caused him to attack.
Further experimenting resulted in another encounter, this time with a female NPC name "Nord", RefID ff002e7e, level 68, health 831, good quality levelled armor and weapons, same dialogue as "Redguard". Seems to be a randomized encounter. As far as I know, this is the only random encounter that may take place indoors. --Xyzzy 21:11, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
The only non-dead male Redguard named Redguard is involved in a random encounter, yeah. There were so many things to click on to get to the encounter that I kind of gave up on figuring it out, but I'm pretty sure a variety of aliases can be used. Vely►Talk►Email 21:16, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
The internal name of that quest is "Taunting Adventurer". That probably tells you all you need to know right there. :) Looking at the dialogue, you can intimidate or persuade your way out of it, but if you fail, combat ensues. Robin Hoodtalk 22:02, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
I thought it was significant because the adventurers level appears to be something like character+6, making for a pretty tough fight at any level. --Xyzzy 00:03, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Marital bliss?

If you encounter the Farmer couple, and kill the male farmer, the female farmer may say "I guess they deserved it." I guess that means the two are not considered friendly or in the same faction, perhaps? --Xyzzy 18:30, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

It's a straight-forward random response with no conditions attached to it at all, so it's possible to get it regardless of the actors' relationship with one another. Robin Hoodtalk 22:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Robbery

This article mentions a thief trying to break and enter. I witnessed this at The Scorched Hammer in Riften. The guards shot him and then I broke in to see if anyone else was in there. I found 3 or 4 more thieves inside the shop. They seemed to be bickering; they were also looting the place. Will someone else confirm this? If so will that person also make appropriate changes to the article?--DarthWeezie 21:15, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

I've actually run into these guys a few times, but only in The Scorched Hammer. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a world interaction because it only happens in one place. • JATalk 21:25, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Whoever made that addition to the article had it happen in other places, however, not to the extent that we are discussing.--DarthWeezie 21:55, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
I noted it in the article. It looks like something that's either supposed to be a random occurrence but due to a glitch isn't, or it is only set to happen in a handful of locations. • JATalk 22:11, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
I do not know if what I will mention here fits inn by World Interactions as such, but it is regarding this occurrence of the thief outside The Scorched Hammer, and I am not sure where else it should go:
I have noted this thief around The Scorched Hammer. I have never tried to enter the shop, as the thief is always detected by the guards, mostly ending with the thief shot dead by guards' arrows. However, sometimes the thief runs into The Bee and Barb, and escapes there. The guards do not follow, but if I enter shortly after, the thief runs around the inn, never leaving, even if I leave and stay away from Riften for several in game weeks at a time. This has occurred at least three times in one game, accumulating three thieves running around The Bee and Barb. --MortenOSlash 23:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

() Then can I speculate that the Scorched Hammer ones have escaped the guards and become stuck inside? The Silencer has spokenTalk 23:39, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

I believe so, at least. From DarthWeezie's observation combined with mine, there seems to be some sort of cleanup not running that should have removed the thief after the incident, in my game accumulating those escaping to the inn there, and in DarthWeezie's inside The Scorched Hammer? By the way, I have never entered the Scorched Hammer to see. Maybe there would be a pack of thieves running around there in my game too, or have all of the survivors of my game been only those who made it to The Bee and Barb? --MortenOSlash 17:44, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Page removed?

The entry for "A Gift from a Friend" points to a red link. It wasn't red before. Was the page removed? --Xyzzy 13:33, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

I've never seen it as a blue link, and there's no log of the deletion of that page (or "Gift from a friend", which the link points to). I don't think it was ever created. Vely►Talk►Email 15:01, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
Seems like that note's been untouched since it was added. I'm not sure off the top of my head what the gift is, but I doubt we would need a page for it. eshetalk 15:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
Is it real? As far as I remember, I have never in my 500 hours of playing received this gift. (On the other hand, this can be coincidental, as my wife after 300 hours of playing Skyrim complained she still had not met M'aiq there before she finally walked straight on to him. So why not 500 hours without a gift, even if it exists?) --MortenOSlash 10:00, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I've recieved two gifts in my game, one from Thorgar after I gained his friendship by selling him Iron Ore and one from a drunk after I gave him booze, ironically he gave me booze too. (Eddie The Head 10:03, 29 April 2012 (UTC))
I've seen enough mentions of it on NPC talk pages to believe it happens. Vely►Talk►Email 15:00, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
There is just some courier approaching with this gift, whatever it is, when you are walking along in the terrain? --MortenOSlash 19:51, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

() You can get it from talking with a friend; they just give it to you. Not a courier event. Vely►Talk►Email 20:01, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Then I would say it is not a random encounter, it is just a part of NPC behaviour? When I find it on the random encounter list, I would expect it to take place at a random place and time. Should it not then be removed from the random encounter list? --MortenOSlash 20:07, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Thing is, it is random--it has a rare chance of happening when you speak to a friend, but doesn't always happen, from what I'm seeing. Vely►Talk►Email 20:31, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, but it is not a random encounter, it is random NPC behaviour if you interact with this specific NPC, am I right? If so, I believe it should rather be noted somewhere else in this wiki, but not here. --MortenOSlash 22:24, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
It may be a script, but I don't know where I'd find that. Could be a quest (which may make it a random encounter, if any random encounters begin with anything but WE as their ID. I think the WE means wilderness encounter). I haven't found anything with the search function. Vely►Talk►Email 22:35, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
It's a World Interaction, specifically WIChangeLocation05 for the Creation Kitters. The specifics, as near as I can make them out are: if it's triggered (which appears to be a small chance, since it's low on the list of things that can happen), you must be level 5 or above, you must not be coming from a "Dwelling" (looks to mean roughly any house, farm, etc.), the person must like you and must have their default location as being in a "Habitation" (looks to mean anywhere habitable, like cities, guilds, Orc strongholds, etc.). What they say to you and what you get is dependent on their race, gender, and age. The gift is randomized, generally fairly low value, though some gifts are leveled and can be more worth your while.
