Mysterious body found in The Salty Futtocks inn

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Either rent a room and get the key, or just go upstairs in The Salty Futtocks and open the level 50 lock on the first door you see.
  2. Inspect Enix Caripus' corpse.
  3. Inform the publican, Jodald. He doesn't seem particularly concerned but may give you a compensation for your trouble.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Jodald doesn't care that much. Things happen, you know...

The Salty Futtocks in Old Ebonheart seem to be the place for rather shady business. If you rent a room there, you'll discover a dead body of Imperial commoner on the floor. Inspect the body, but other than set of common clothes, a steel tanto and Enix Caripus' Journal, which only reveals his name, you won't find any other items or information. The room doesn't have any clues either, so who was this guy and why he was killed there will remain a mystery. You can decide to keep the journal though.

If you go downstairs and talk with Jodald, the publican of the inn, and tell him about the dead man, he won't be that much surprised. The only information he can say is: Well, that name does ring the bell. He rented the room not few days ago. Kept to himself. Didn't remember he hadn't checked out. Though in a way he did, didn't he? These things happen. If you then say: His death needs to be investigated, he simply responds There ain't no mystery here. From what you told me I gather he died of natural causes. Respond It didn't look natural to me, and he will just shrug: Well, 'round here a dagger in the stomach counts as a natural cause

From here there's no other information you can find about the case. You can threat Jodald with the guards, but this will lead nowhere which both of you quickly realize, as he responds: Hold your horses, %PCName. You don't wanna to involve the law. They would find nothing. But they'd turn my joint upside down looking for that nothing... Best we just get rid of the body discreetly and keep this a secret, yes? and then hands the player 10 gold, moneyback from the room rent cost, and the bottle of Vintage Colovian Battlewine.

If you hasn't rented the room, but just picked the lock, Jodald will respond differently, saying There's a dead guy in one of our rooms? Well, that's what you get for snooping around. Sometimes you find a dead body. But thanks for letting me know. I'll take care of it.. The quest will close, but you won't get any reward.

Next time you rent a room, Jodald will greet you in a rather cynical way by saying You'll find your room on the second floor. First door after the stairs. Fingers crossed you won't find a dead guy in there this time, eh?

There are no other people in the city who can be asked about Enix Caripus. You can't inform the guards or investigate the case on your own as there won't be any topics available. The dead man just vanishes from the world and nobody seem to care, and if you hasn't picked his journal just after you find the body, it will disappear too as Jodald will remove the corpse among with any items on it.

BugsEdit

  • If you pick the lock, and then try to rent the room, Jodald will have the same response as if you already discussed the dead man with him before
