Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Speak to Madar Senatam in her house in Port Telvannis about her task.
- Go to Dunel Varys house and either:
- Kill Veles the Pack Rat and return to Madar for 50 gold (has consequences*).
- Cure Veles for 30 gold from Dunel and either.
- Refuse Dunel's request.
- Agree to Dunel's request, search Madar Senatam's house for evidence, and return to Dunel to either:
- Tell the truth (20 gold).
- Lie (30 gold) and (optionally) place infected rat meat in Madar's food containers for 50 gold more from Dunul.
- (Optional) Cure Madar of her newly acquired diseased and kill Veles for 150 gold from Madar (has consequences*).
(*)The merchant Bren Galdis will boycott you on killing Veles unless you pay Dunel 100 gold in compensation.
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
On the high tendril paths of western Port Telvannis, you will find the house of Madar Senatam. Speak to her to hear her proposition. She desires the death of her neighbor's pack rat, claiming it to be diseased.
Go to Dunel Varys' house, immediately below Madar's. If you speak to him about the rat, Veles, he will insist that it isn't diseased and that you should see for yourself. He'll even allege that Madar has some kind of grudge against his precious pet. Veles the Pack Rat is in the other room. Activating it will reveal that it is indeed infected with Witbane.
You have a choice here. Killing Veles now (or indeed at any point) will see Dunel demand 100 gold from you in compensation. His friend, the trader Bren Galdis, will refuse to do business with you until you do, however you will be able to collect 50 gold from Madar. Alternatively, you can cure it using a Cure Common Disease spell.
Curing Veles will delight Dunel - if you speak to him about the rat he will give you 30 gold for your trouble. He will also promise you another 20 if you can find evidence that Madar purposely infected his pet. Beware that refusal at this point will effectively end the quest, although you can still kill Veles for the 50 gold from Madar. If you agree to look for evidence however, return to Madar's house.
Speaking to Madar about the rat at this point will see her proclaim that the rat is still clearly dangerous, and she will ask you to kill it regardless of its personal hygiene. She'll also give you permission to search her house if you reveal Dunel's accusations against her.
To complete the house 'search', look in the four containers under the stairs. Your journal should update, and you will be able to report the total lack of evidence for Dunel's claim to Dunel - he will give you 20 gold for your trouble. You can alternatively lie to him and claim that there was evidence. In this instance he will give you 30 gold, and promise you 50 more if you placed some infected rat meat into Madar's food supply as tribution. If you wish to do so, place the rat meat into any one of the containers you searched earlier. Your journal will update and you can return to Dunel for your reward.
While this can be treated as the end of the quest, there is an additional segment should you choose to pursue it. Speaking to Madar after Dunel has rewarded you will reveal that she has become ill with Witbane. She has not made the link to you however, and requests your help in curing her. Either a spell or a potion of cure common disease should do the trick. While Madar declines to reward you for your trouble, killing Veles the Pack Rat now and returning to her will see your financial package tripled to 150 septims.
