Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Immediately following on from A Guild in Ruins, you can speak to Shei to learn more about the Thieves Guild's standing in Andothren, which turns out to be low to terminal following a massacre at the Dusky Alit - now the Camonna Tong-run Council Club. Shei has been charged with rebuilding the guild. Ask her about the special job topic. She'll talk of potential recruits that she's scouted out. These are Marug gro-Meridius, Rowdy Rilmas, and Tattara. Asking her about each will give a little more information on where each can be found - and will gain you some lockpicks and a probe in Rilmas' case, as he is locked up in jail at Fort Ancylis.
Marug gro-MeridiusEdit
This errant student of the Mages Guild is in the process of being expelled following being caught thieving. You can find him in the bedroom area of the Andothren guildhall. Proposing that he join the Thieves Guild will meet with a warm reception, but Marug wants something first - some magical scrolls that he tried to steal from the guildhall head, Ethalvora.
The scrolls Marug needs are as follows: 1x Scroll of Fphyggi's Gem-Feeder, 1x Scroll of The Gambler's Prayer and 1x Scroll of The Inner Pale Sun. The three scrolls can be found scattered around Ethalvora's office on the hall's top floor, behind a trapped door with a weak lock. Give the scrolls to Marug and he'll agree to join you.
Rowdy RilmasEdit
Rilmas is held captive within Fort Ancylis, a citadel of the Imperial military that lies a little to the northwest of Andothren, opposite the small town of Teyn. You can find him the prison under the Eastern Keep. Understandably, he isn't keen to join the Thieves Guild until he can go free. He suggests bribing the jailkeeper, Wulfus.
You can of course just pick the lock to Rilmas' cell, but then you will need to escort him out of the military fort - and if Wulfus is still alive, he will initiate combat. Wulfus' death will cause Shei to dock your pay in order to settle things with the Legion, so is best avoided.
For a more peaceful route, after talking to Rilmas, speak to Wulfus. He can be persuaded to let the man go free with 80+ disposition. If you can't raise it to this level however, you have one more route available to you, as Wulfus will describe Rilmas' assault on one Alomon Juspethe. Ask him about the Alomon Juspethe topic to receive a journal update. Then go find Alomon in Teyn's tradehouse. No matter how you approach the conversation with this Breton gentleman, he will agree that Rilmas must be released, and give you the key to his cell with a strict 'do not ask questions' message attached. He invites you to tell Wulfus that this is what he wishes, which is enough to prevent the jailer from intervening. Once you've unlocked Rilmas' cell door from his cell, you'll need to escort Rilmas outside the prison. After this, he'll initiate dialogue with you. Choose the join the Thieves Guild topic and he'll leave immediately for Bthuangthuv.
TattaraEdit
This Redguard dock worker can be found pacing outside of the Port Authority building. Ask her to join the Thieves Guild and she'll note that she doesn't work for free. She wants a good offer. Either you pay up - 150 gold, or with 75+ disposition you can persuade her to work without her advance.
Reporting BackEdit
Once you've recruited all three potential thieves (or at least, those still alive), return to Shei. She'll reward you with 600 gold and the book The Tools of the Trade if you got all three recruits to join without violence. If Wulfus was killed however, you'll get only 200 gold. If any of the potential recruits are dead, the quest fails, and you'll be told to seek work outside of Andothren.
