Dock Master Rolland Elsyr waits for new business in his office.

Rolland Elsyr is an Imperial merchant who serves as the Dock Master for the Bravil Docks; he oversees every ship that enters or leaves the harbor, as well as the disposition of their cargoes. He also offers passage on a ship to various ports of call (see below).

As Bravil Dock Master, Rolland leads a busy life. He gets up at 5am every morning and eats breakfast for two hours, then opens the building for business from 7am to 7pm. On Sundas, he goes to the chapel at 7am to pay his respects to Mara; he remains there until noon, then returns to the building to open for business. Regardless of the day, he closes up at 7pm and goes to the Bravil Bayside Inn to eat dinner for three hours, then returns to the building to retire to bed at 10pm.

He wears a shirt with suspenders, rugged pants, and doeskin shoes, and is armed with a steel cutlass; he carries a bowl of mutton stew and a key to the building.

The Dock Master's Office is located near the center of the docks district, just east of the gate and right next to Cadwyn's Discreet Tailoring. The ground floor is occupied by the office itself; the second floor has an open space and a small bedroom for his workers Asa and Urban, and the third floor has a single room, which is Rolland's living quarters. It is sparsely furnished; a small dining table and a bookcase are the only items of note in the front half of the room. A makeshift portable screen blocks the bed from view; another bookcase at the foot holds various items, including a dozen or so books. The corner across from the bed, against the back wall, holds a table that serves as a desk, along with a sea chest and a couple boxes.

Rolland offers passage to a number of cities:

  • Anvil: "To Anvil? That will take at least fifteen hours, it would probably be faster to walk! Hope you don't get sea-sick. Keep an eye out for pirates too!"
  • Duncori Walk: "Oh? That's unusual. Duncori Walk, you say? Well, Elsweyr! I guess a ship could drop you off as it passes. I hope you're packed for the desert! Oh, and I hope the ship's crew doesn't just dump you in the water as they sail passed!"
  • Firsthold: "Traveling to Summerset Isles? How fascinating! Well, that will be quite an adventure for you. Just imagine the sights you'll see. The place is supposed to be magical!"
  • Ft. Akatosh: "Oh yes, that's just up-river, not far at all. Be sure to salute the officers, they expect that!"
  • Imperial City Waterfront: "Ah, the Imperial City! A wonderful place, and not far by ship. You'll really enjoy visiting the Imperial City! Such a busy place."
  • Leyawiin: "It's fairly wet in Leyawiin at the moment. Swamp water's risen. Are those boots waterproof?"
  • Stirk: "Stirk? I've never been there. Quite a distance, but you can only get there by ship. Well The Magnificent is heading that way shortly. Enjoy the voyage, but let the captain know if you spot any pirates!"
  • Sutch: "Yes, a few ships have started sailing to Sutch again, I hear they already started work rebuilding the city. Weather's looking stormy, hold on tight when you get out to sea!"

Other than business-related discussions, Rolland has little of note to say.
