Wat the Stablehand is a Wood Elf ostler who lives and works aboard the Slough Queen, a ship moored in the Bravil Docks. He takes care of the horses stabled in the ship's hold while they are shipped to new owners.

Wat rises at 6am every morning and eats breakfast for an hour in the ship's galley. On weekdays after breakfast, he goes to the local chapel to pray for four hours before returning to the ship's hold and tending to the horses for an hour; on weekends, he goes back below straight after breakfast and takes care of the horses. At noon, he starts to muck out the horses' stalls and lays down fresh hay; this takes most of the afternoon. By 4pm, he resumes tidying up in the hold and wandering around until 8pm, when he goes up to the galley to eat dinner for two hours. He returns to the hold after dinner and spends an hour making sure the horses are settled for the night before going to bed himself.

Wat occupies a bunk in the forward cabin in the hold, so he can be close to his animals. He has few possessions of his own - most of the space below is taken up by hay for the horses and supplies for the ship.

Since he tends to get dirty and smelly during the course of his job, Wat wears ratty clothing - a coarse linen shirt, sack cloth pants, and sack cloth sandals. He carries a rake, some flax bread for himself, and five carrots for the horses he tends.

If you run into Wat during the course of his duties, he'll admonish you: "Huh? What are you doing down here? You shouldn't be down here, you'll scare the horses." If you ask about the horses, he's only too happy to keep talking: "Yes, it is my job to see that the horses get only the best care on their journey to their new homes." He enjoys his work very much: "Oh very much so! I've been tending to horses since I was young, and I wouldn't do anything else. I actually owned my own horses back when I lived in Valenwood... riding along the back of a majestic steed while you traveled across the emerald fields. But... that was then... I've grown up, and I need to start taking responsibility, so I got a job as a stablehand on this ship."
