Facing the Dragon
The Loremaster believes an ancient dragon could hold the key to defeating the Sorcerer-King... if I can convince him to tell us.

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Ask the dragon about the Sorcerer-King.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

This quest is started after The Haunted Forest:

"Saashi once met someone while traveling... They might know how to use the Elder Scroll against the Sorcerer-King. You might not be too keen on talking to him, though."
Why is that?
"Well... he is a dragon. Shulkunaak. This one recognized his name in those runic inscriptions."
You met a dragon?
"It is a long story. But Saashi promises to tell once this is all over. This one believes he can help figure it out. If he does not kill you first, that is."
All right, let's go then.
"Saashi will start packing."

When you arrive at the cave, you will see Saashi who can be spoken to:

"The dragon Shulkunaak should be somewhere in this cave complex. Just please, be respectful when you meet him. This one would be very sad if he ended up eating you."

Head onwards through the cave, until eventually you will have to fight two cave spiders. As you enter the large area with two cave bears, head to the right for the secret area, the lever is on the cave wall and looks like a torch. This will open up the secret area behind a rock which contains healing food and a chest.

Once you have finished with the secret area, continue onwards and you will have to kill a giant cave spider and spider. You will reach a large opening with dragon skeletons strewn about, there are another two cave bears in here to deal with, however there is a chance of there being food in the form of mushrooms in this area. Going forwards, you will have to deal with another giant cave spider, before eventually reaching an opening with Shulkunaak. Speak to Shulkunaak:

"Who dares disturb my peace? Speak, volaan. Your life hangs in the balance."
I am <Player Name>, and I seek your wisdom.
"You came here alone? That was very brave, or very stupid."
I'm not afraid of you.
"Stupidity it is, then. If it is death you seek, I will give it to you."
I trust your good judgement with my life.
"Ahkrin - bravery - may impress your peers. All it will earn you here is a quick death."
I am <Player Name>, and I don't fear you!
"Do you think it wise to provoke me, here in my own lair?"
I see no other option for a coward like you.
"Do not think you can provoke me that easily. But I admire your bravado."
I am told dragons appreciate confidence.
"Your ahkrin - bravery - has earned my respect. But that will not save your life."

Both will lead to:

"But first, tell me. Why did you come all the way here to die?"
The Sorcerer-king Celemaril has returned.

You can choose to continue talking to Shulkunaak to gain the information, or begin a fight for it.

Talk to Shulkunaak
"So the rumors are true. Krosis sul! I hoped this day would never come. You seek my help, then."
You're the only one who can help.
"Very well. Celemaril must not achieve his goals. The world cannot be destroyed just yet.
Know this: the Sorcerer-King is immortal. Simply destroying his physical form will not kill him."
So, he cannot be defeated?
"You need to bind his spirit first. But that will not be easy to accomplish."
What do we need?
"Have you already found the Elder Scroll?"
We have.
"The Kel, the Elder Scroll, can affect all possible futures. you must bind the Sorcerer-King to the one where he fails to escape.
You will also need the incantation that was used to bind his spirit in ancient times.
Defeat Celemaril in combat. A pure heart must read the incantation while wearing his lost crown.
Celemaril's ancient crown is another matter. I do not know where it may now be found."
That's it?
"Yes. That should not be too hard for you, kendov."
Thank you for your help, great Shulkunaak.
"Do not thank me yet. Now you must prove yourself worthy to face the Sorcerer-King."
It doesn't have to be this way.
"There is no evading your duty, Blade."
Me, a Blade?!/Is it that obvious?
"Zu'u ni mey. I did not survive this long without knowing a Blade when I see one.
Have the Blades forgotten their sworn duty as dragonslayers? I assure you, I have not."
I don't care, this is unfair.
"Fairness is irrelevant. Either you are a <man/woman> of honor, and you fight.
Or you are not honorable, and I kill you.
Now honor your comrades, and fight me! Aav grah!"
Very well.
"I knew you were a <man/woman> of honor. Aav grah!"

Not if I kill you first.
"Aav grah! Let us test ourselves against each other, <Player Name>!"

Once enough damage has been dealt to Shulkunaak the following dialogue will begin:

"Enough. You have proven your worth.
Drem wah hi. Go in peace, Blade."
You have my gratitude, and that of my town.
"None of that will matter until you use it to stop Celemaril. Kfir voth ahkrin."
Fight Shulkunaak
"So the rumors are true. Krosis sul! I hoped this day would never come. You seek my help, then."
Yes, and you'll tell me, or else!
"You choose death, then. Ol hi hind. So be it."

Once enough damage has been dealt to Shulkunaak the following dialogue will begin:

"You have defeated me. I am gronsezin - honor-bound - to tell you what you need to know."
Tell me what we need to defeat the Sorcerer-king.
"I will tell you what you need to know.

Defeat Celemaril in combat. A pure heart must read the incantation while wearing his lost crown.
Celemaril's ancient crown is another matter. I do not know where it may now be found."
That's it?
"I have told you everything I know. The rest is up to you."
