Castles talk:Easter Eggs

007Edit

Tiber Septim's phrase "My name is Septim. Tiber Septim." is a reference to the catch phrase belonging to James Bond. "The name is Bond, James Bond."Analeah Oaksong (talk) 05:19, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Clearly a reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 05:25, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
Plain as day. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 02:17, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

You Might Remember Me from...Edit

Tiber Septim might be referencing Troy McClure when he says "Hi, I'm Tiber Septim. You may remember me as Talos the Ninth Divine, or Ysmir the Dragon of the North."

TVTropes has a section called You Might Remember Me from... in where a character might introduce themselves and where they were previously seen. Has the same wording and may be a reference.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 05:35, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Very clearly a reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:12, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Agreed. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 02:17, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

JFKEdit

The quote some kings make "Ask not what the king can do for you, but what you can do for the king!" is a reference from the line "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." in JFK's inaugural speech.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 07:08, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Very clearly a reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:12, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Agreed. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 02:17, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

War Never ChangesEdit

"War never changes." is a potential dialogue line in-game. Clearly a Fallout reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:11, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

This is definitely a reference.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 02:09, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Agreed. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 02:17, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Bucketed ShopkeeperEdit

In the key art of Castles, there is a man of unknown race wandering about with a bucket on his head.

This is most likely a nod to Skyrim, where players were able to place buckets on the heads of shopkeepers, allowing them to steal all of their wares.

Madame Vastra (talk) 11:29, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

Agreed and added. —Legoless (talk) 18:54, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Ogres are like onionsEdit

A possible random line of dialogue your subjects may say: "Maybe ogres are just misunderstood." To me, this seems like a reference to Shrek, where a misunderstood ogre is the central premise. —Legoless (talk) 18:35, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Appears to be a reference, especially given Shrek's popularity, it seems like the only explanation The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
This is a generic phrase, and it doesn't have to be about Ogres, but any creature from the preset list, the game randomly chooses for subject which creature will be utter in this phrase –Maxandkon 18:40, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
Didn't know it was generic, probably not an intentional reference then. —Legoless (talk) 19:05, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

I hate MorndasEdit

Many of the characters say 'I hate Morndas' but could it be a reference to the song by The Boomtown Rats 'I Hate Mondays '? Not sure how big Geldof and crew were in the US... CarrWill10 (sorry no tildes on the tablet) CarrWill10 (talk) 17:54, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

I would've thought it was a reference to Garfield rather than The Boomtown Rats. The lyrics to the song are "I Don't Like Mondays", not "I Hate Mondays", which is more of a Garfieldism I believe. —Legoless (talk) 13:54, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, I realised I had the title wrong almost as soon as I sent it. My apologies. CarrWill10 (talk) 14:00, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
I'd say its a Garfield reference, yes The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

The Danse MacabreEdit

Perhaps older than the usual cultural references listed on these pages, but the name of one of the new event quests is Danse Macabre. This refers to a particular genre of allegory from the Middle Ages. —Legoless (talk) 13:54, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Also a book by Stephen King... CarrWill10 (talk) 14:03, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
For sure a reference. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm not sure this would really count as an Easter Egg. The Wiki disambiguation page for DM lists over 20 uses. I would regard it more as a general term for an event close to Helloween, but if someone wants to add it, I won't kick up a fuss. CarrWill10 (talk) 10:46, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

An Arrow to the KneeEdit

An obituary reads "After fighting an infection due to an unexpected arrow to the knee, [Subject Name] finally found peace in eternal rest at the respectable age of [Subject Age]." —Eve (talk) 15:29, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Agreed, very clear reference so should have no trouble being added to the page. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 00:09, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Krampus?Edit

Obviously the Jolly Robes are a reference to Santa Claus, but what are the Silent Night Robes meant to represent? Silent Night is a Christmas carol, but the horned robes look more like Krampus. —Legoless (talk) 15:41, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Spoiler: There are lines in the game files that have an id with “Krampus”, but these will be artifacts and subject from the next event. It's hard for me to say if this Robe is the same reference as these upcoming ones, since its id is just “HolidayDark”, but it's possible, especially if the unique Robe from the event will use the same model –Maxandkon 15:57, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
I agree that it looks to be based off of Krampus more than anything else. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 08:27, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
I've added a section for Christmas, we can add more references as these items are released. —Legoless (talk) 10:54, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Wizard of OzEdit

Morga the Witch or the "Witch of the Black Forest" is likely a bit of subtle reference to the Wicked Witch of the West, her quote of "Wicked, me? Everything’s relative...", is the most direct aspect. But she is also a green-skinned witch wearing black robes. -Tarponpet (talk) 15:16, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Clear reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:55, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Princess BrideEdit

The title of the "Skeever of Unusual Size" event is an obvious reference to the R.O.U.S. (Rodents of Unusual Size) in the Princess Bride, a quote so well-known it even became a trope name on TV Tropes. -Tarponpet (talk) 15:16, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Clear reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:55, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
