Grurn was a Lich warrior wizard who along with his undead army rose out of the Inner Sea to overtake the Imperial controlled islet Firemoth.[1] In defeat by Grurn’s hand the Imperial Legion lost not only control of the entire island and the strategic fort therein, but also a holy artifact of the legion the Ward of Akavir a powerful shield made of the skin of a Dragon that Grurn would take to personally wielding. Circa 3E 427 after previous interactions, an Imperial Captain named Sellus Gravius would task the Nerevarine with leading a crew of hired mercenaries to retake the Ward of Akavir to avenge the Legions’ honor.[1] At the island the Nerevarine and the hired crew were able to save a hostage Khajiit member of the legion who had survived for years on the island by feasting off of the cavern's mushrooms, they then drove back the undead army and confronted the powerful Grurn who used the Ward in battle but was ultimately struck down. The Nerevarine and the others then returned back to Vvardenfell and returned the shield to the Legion.[2]
