Maebroogha the Void Lich was a Reachfolk witch proficient in void magic,[1][2] ultimately transforming into the powerful Voidmother. She was infamous for destroying the soul of the renowned Vateshran Aydolan.[3][4]
HistoryEdit
Very little is known about her past, except that she was a witch of Reachfolk origins. At some point, she underwent a transformation to become a Voidmother. She was imprisoned within the Void and desired to break free, believing that all should join the Void. Over time, she made preparations for her return, which was realized in 2E 582 within Vateshran Hollows.[1][2][3]
The Spiritblood Clan's Vateshran Rites were their ancient rite of passage tradition. The oversight of the Vateshran Rites was entrusted to three witch sisters: the Rites Matron, Binder in the Dark, and Lamenter of the Slain. This custom persisted through the tumultuous history of the region, remaining unbroken until 2E 582 when an unknown outsider decided to partake in the trials. During that period, clan representatives were present outside the walls of Markarth, actively encouraging non-clan members to engage in these trials.[5][6]
Shortly before their arrival, an anomalous magical phenomenon unfolded within the Hollows, causing the trials to behave strangely for several days. Maebroogha was responsible for the corruption of the trials. Despite these challenges, the outsider managed to successfully navigate all three wings. However, as they advanced through the Hollows, voidstuff began seeping into the Choosing, contaminating the sacred grounds and giving rise to void spots. The contamination spread too rapidly for the sisters to contain, and an unwelcome presence interfered. This intrusion of the Void into the Hollows deeply troubled the sisters, leading the Rites Matron to urgently instruct the challenger to proceed to the Champion's Circle so they could address the imminent threat.[2][3][7]
Upon the outsider's arrival at the Champion's Circle, they bore witness to the Void Lich Maebroogha consuming Aydolan's spirit, thus gaining entry into the realm.[1][7] Maebroogha, armed with formidable void magic and the ability to command shade minions, engaged in a fierce battle with the outsider. However, the outsider emerged victorious, banishing the Void Lich. This also led to the permanent destruction of Aydolan's spirit, thereby ending his role as the spiritual guide in the Vateshran Hollows. After the defeat of the Void Lich, the sisters successfully contained the void infection, enabling the outsider to complete their trial.[1][2][3]
