WalkthroughEdit

This quest starts when you activate the shrine in the Order's Crypt. Simply follow the path up around the edge of the crater until you reach a pillar with three spirits around it (note: the path is, at times, difficult and not very obvious - good Acrobatics is very helpful here). Only one is a "good" knight; the other two are fakes who will attack, but you won't know which is which until you try to talk to them. After you free the knight's soul, step onto the teleport pad and you'll be sent to a new area.

Repeat this process twice more, and you'll be sent to the central pillar. The three knights' spirits are there; you can talk to them to get rewards. Touch the altar and it will shatter, freeing the spirits, but Mephala will send her envoy to attack again. You still can't kill, so flee back to the door you came in and you'll end up back in the crypts.

Since the spirits are free now, you can activate the altar. Stick the sword into the stone, and a knight's spirit will appear; he'll unlock the other two gates, and the quest will be complete. (Note: the way out is through the far gate; just walk into the green wall.)

5 The large gate in the crypt led me to a strange place. I wonder if the souls of the knights, of which Pelagius spoke, are here? The souls that imprison Mephala.
10 I've freed the knight's soul that was trapped in the lowest column.
20 I've freed the knight's soul that was trapped in the topmost column.
30 I've freed the knight's soul that was trapped in the topmost column.
50 I was able to free the knights of the Order of the Dragon. I should use the teleport to go to the central platform.
60 I have spoken with all three souls. It's time to deliver them from this place. I suspect this must happen over the altar in the middle of the crater.
70 I've freed the souls of my Order brothers, who were bound to this place about three hundred years ago.
80 Mephala has spoken to me. I intended to take the place of the tortured souls of my Order brothers and spend forever in this crater. The soul crater Shuk'Motul. The Daedra's envoy shall now speak a curse upon me. I hope that Tyrfing's gemstone actually provides protection against Mephala's power, because otherwise I am lost.
90 Tyrfing's pommel, which I wear as an amulet around my neck, actually protected from Mephala's anger. Nevertheless, without the sword, I cannot even hurt him. I should get out of here while I still have the chance.
100 Finishes quest  I was able to leave the crater. Whole and without scars. The knights' souls are freed, and Mephala weakened.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ODDHQ07Krater stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
