Oblivion Mod:PCS Library/Many random missing textures and black textures

< Mod / Oblivion: Oblivion Mod: PCS: Game Play

ProblemEdit

There are random missing textures and black textures all over the place.

CauseEdit

In addition the hard cap of 255 active plugins (beyond which Oblivion will not load anymore), there also exists a threshold for the total number of BSA and plugin files installed to the Data folder, active or inactive, which varies by system for as of yet unknown reasons. The threshold is approximately 300-400.

Solution: Users of Wrye Bash can remedy some of the problem by using the Bashed Patch to merge certain plugins and turning on Auto-Ghost, by right-clicking on the 'File' header, to "hide" inactive files from Oblivion by changing their extension.

Solution: Oblivion Mod Manager Extended also offers a ghosting option. Differently, however, it moves the "ghosted" plugins to a subfolder in the data folder. This takes them out of the load order entirely, of course, meaning that plugins that need to be re-imported or re-merged into the Bashed Patch have to be unghosted or manually moved back into the Data folder beforehand. That does not matter if the plugins are not being used at all and/or you do not use a Bashed Patch.

Solution: Manual users can do what OBMM Extended does and move inactive plugins into a subfolder when they are inactive.

Solution: It help some if you do not install mods that are not being used at all.

Solution: If you are up against the limit even after hiding not active plugins, you try merging some plugins. Please, take care to read the instructions and watch what you merge. Merging BSAs is a valid and possibly less tedious option as well. See BSA Repacking for tips and considerations.
