Oblivion talk:Garlas Malatar
Respawning AuroransEdit
I went back to Garlas Malatar about a week after I finished the Knights of the Nine quest and the Aurorans had respawned. Is this a general occurrence? Also all the Ayleid chests had respawned gold, treasures and potions, etc. It might be worth adding to the Notes section if this is common. Great place to loot a few times over for soul gems, etc. ButrBiscut 21:04, 8 April 2007 (EDT)ButrBiscut
- The creatures and chests in almost every cave and ruin in the game respawn after three days. --NepheleTalk 21:17, 8 April 2007 (EDT)
- I wasn't sure if that was a general rule, even for quest-specific locations, thank you for the info! ButrBiscut 18:35, 14 April 2007 (EDT)ButrBiscut
Boss level chest outside ruinEdit
I found a boss level chest (very hard locked ayleid cask) about 100 feet north west of the island. It was on a pillar (ayleid style) that was jutting out of the ground underwater. Wouldn't this be considered part of the exterior of the ruin? I'm guessing this is a boss level chest because it had an expensive helmet, some scrolls, soul gems, and about 750 gold. I'm a level 45.--Imperial Scum 22:13, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
- Any chance you could be more specific about where you found this chest? Because at the moment the only chest I'm seeing in the cells near Garlas Malatar is a wilderness chest that's there before Knights of the Nine is installed, is a chest (not an ayleid cask), and contains only a bit of gold, clutter, and a lockpick. --NepheleTalk 22:53, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
- Oops, I spoke too soon ;) I decided instead to search through all the boss-level ayleid casks in the game, and then I found it. There's a conjurer boss chest (DungConjurerBossChestAlyied02) in cell -55, -3. --NepheleTalk 22:56, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
IslandEdit
The ruin itself is plug-in specific, but is the area around the ruin different without KotN? I have the GOTY Edition for Xbox 360, so I can't easily check. --DKong27 Talk 03:09, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- Very different. See our map for the non-plugin coastline, then this image for the coastline with KotN. You can see that although the coastline is basically the same, the whole island on which GM is located is new, and there are a lot of extra ruins added. rpeh •T•C•E• 10:06, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
(←) Thought I'd put this here, as it made more sense. I've a question about this island in particular. I can see the ruins from far away, but as I get closer, they vanish, and all that's left is the dirt island and rocks. I don't have the KotN plug-in (yet; I'm planning to get it), but I do have the Oblivion Audio and Visual Overhaul mod installed, maybe that made the ruins visible from far away? No biggee, of course, was just wondering. --Eleima 14:58, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- That is fairly likely, if the mod included information from KotN. There are special files that are used to represent objects from a distance, to save on processor. If they altered these, it is likely that they were included in the files. --DKong27 Talk Cont 16:16, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly makes sense to me! Sure is a bit bewildering when you see a pretty ruin from afar, and have it vanish when you get there, feels like a "ghost" ruin. Looks like I'm going to "have" to get that plug-in. :) Thanks, DKong27! --Eleima 12:46, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Aurorans OutsideEdit
On a new game, I ended up at Garlas Malatar before starting KotN and there were no Aurorans outside, although there were two inside. On the page it says they are outside. Do you have to be at a certain point in the questline for them to be there? --DKong27 Talk Cont 19:18, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
- Good spot. Yes, they're disabled until stage 20 of Umaril the Unfeathered. I've added a note to the description. rpeh •T•C•E• 12:32, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- I don't remember seeing Aurorans outside... I've been there before starting the questline, and at the end of it. Are they disabled at a certain point? Or maybe they wandered off... ~ Dwarfmp 18:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Auroran under floorEdit
PS3 GOTY I ran through the ruin, directly to Umaril... finished the quest. Went back to clean up afterwords. In Carac Abaran, at the stairwell leading down into the last chamber, there is an Auroran under the floor. I can "detect" him (gray cowl) and hear him. I cannot hit him though he can hit me (tried an area of effect attack, also to no avail). Actually managed to get him to "follow" me as far back as the balcony overlooking the chamber, at which point he seems to run into a wall and cannot proceed. Anyone got an explanation? Scripted Chests?Edit
Are some of the loot chests in Zone 3 scripted to only appear after the quest finishes, like some of the Aurorans are? At the moment, during the quest, I can only find a few of them. It seems to be the ones that should be on top of stone structures in the middle of the rooms that aren't there right now. If this is the case, perhaps that should be added to the article. --Enodoc 20:04, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Hole isn't a HoleEdit
Right out in front of the ruin is a circular feature with steps leading up to what looks like a bottomless pit. You can, however, jump up there and walk across it without falling to anywhere. Gglazer (talk) 22:09, 22 June 2014 (GMT)
Worth going back forEdit
Even after the KotN is over, it is worth coming back here to explore the ruin more carefully than during the quest when the player is chasing the other knights through the place. One will not have had the time or the capacity to loot all of the Aurorans during the quest and coming back nets a large number of Ayeleid Battle Axes, Daedra Hearts, Soul Gems, jewelry and the occasional Welkynd Stone. Also, the Aurorans appear to respawn, generating more of same. Gglazer (talk)
- While that is true, please note that talk pages should be reserved for discussion on the article's content, and not general discussion on the topic. If you're suggesting we add a note pointing out the value of this location for allowing you to continue to fight the Aurorans after the quest line is over, then I do agree a mention should be made here, but otherwise please keep my previous comment in mind in the future. Thank you! --AKB Talk Cont Mail 03:29, 24 June 2014 (GMT)
