Oblivion talk:Mage Apprentice

Location of mage apprenticesEdit

Humm, why was the information regarding where abouts you can find apprentices removed? It seemed relevant enough to me. (then again, I was the one who added it) --Saruuk

Looks good. I guess I should just forget about starting pages until i know more. I mean if people can knock up pages like this in an hour or so what's the point of me doign it? Forlornhope 09:34, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Not at all! Apart from anything else, if you hadn't started the Murderer page, I doubt if anybody would have got around to starting this one. Nobody expects new users to come on to the site and immediately start producing perfect pages, even if they've had previous experience on other wikis. The most important thing on the site is the content - there's even a policy about it (Content Over Style). You spotted a page that didn't exist and created it. Within a couple of days, the site had some nice new pages containing useful information. That's far better than the alternative of posting "Why don't you have this page?" on a talk page somewhere and expecting somebody else to do all the work. So please, feel free to do the same again should a similar situation arise. --RpehTalk 10:37, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

UncertaintiesEdit

1) I have been able to recruit upto 2 apprentices simultaneously, although not very often.

2) Sometimes dead apprentices respawn back the University and sometimes they respawn next to me(much like the Adoring Fan). The same holds true for DB murderers.

3) Don't the Breton apprentices(female) have 50% magic resistance as well?

--Sundaroct131088 14:29, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

I noticed that it is indeed possible to recruit 2 apprentices, but I notice it's always only the red haired Breton and the blonde haired Breton. The only times I've ever had an apprentice respawn next to me was when I used the resurrect command on them. --Saruuk 18:28, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
I've been able to recruit the Blonde and Black one. If I have two at once, they NEVER respawn next to me but if I have only one they seem to respawn next to me(sometimes), especially when I fast travel. --Sundaroct131088 12:06, 13 September 2007 (EDT)

Thanks Rpeh! Forlornhope 16:53, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

are apprentices respawning every 3 days or so or once all of them have fallen in the line of duty I can get no more? xx 129.67.17.233 16:38, 19 October 2007 (EDT)

They all respawn. But I've had a few problems in the past. Sometimes they never respawned, sometimes they respawned wherever they got killed(even though I never asked them to wait), and sometimes they never respawned at all. Since I always try to keep as many NPCs alive as possible in my game, I never take the risk these days. --Sundar 18:54, 19 October 2007 (EDT)

Also, if you tell one mage to wait can you then get another to follow you?

I've been able to recruit two apprentices also, but I can only recruit the Red haired breton and the black haried bretonand I can only recruit both of them at 1:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. when they are sleeping.

I'm able to recruit two of any of the apprentices by telling one to return to its studies. It continues to follow me around though, and only goes away if I talk to it again and say 'Nevermind.' When I get one to follow me around like this, I just ask another and I have two apprentices. But I can't get more than two, since when I tell the other to go away, the first wanders off. Hope that made a bit of sense... 86.46.252.118 16:59, 9 April 2009 (EDT)

Can only recruit one apprenticeEdit

So earlier I tried to get two apprentices to come into the Shivering Isles with me. They wouldn't so I dismissed them right there and they started swimming towards the imperial city. A few game weeks later I went to recruit two of them for tasts I had to do in Cryodill, but I can only recruit one. Any ideas as to why? --Mole126 07:00, 11 February (EST)

  • Well, as far as I know, you are only supposed to be able to recruit 1 of all alies... So you are just... not experiencing the bug.--Drake3555 00:06, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

(P.S. if I seem jerky it is not intended. I have been doing it often and not purposely)

Getting Multiple Apprentice Followers 101Edit

Here is what I've noticed on my PS3 game of the year copy so it may be different for others. The order in which you ask is very important. If I ask the black haired Breton to follow me first then I can then ask another apprentice to follow me. I always pick another breton but asking and Imperial Apprentice seams to work fine. I also noticed that when you try and dismiss an apprentice they might follow you for another 10 before wandering off. This could give a brief illusion of having all the apprentices following you.

At any rate I have found consistently if I ask the black haired breton first I can then recruit any one of the other apprentices breton or imperial. So if your trying to get more then one to follow you do exactly that.

--Vukodlak 03:04, 8 July (EST)

another way for 360 is telling them to go away and then immediately talk to them and tell them to follow you(they have 4 choices) and then talk to another mage and tell them to follow you and...Ta Da, you did it. --Oblivion Lover 19:34, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Reverse Pickpocketing ProblemsEdit

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere! Anyhoo, I've recently attempted to pickpocket enchanted items onto the two apprentices, but I've run into some odd problems. One time, I gave them both better robes, but when I entered a room (I was in the King and Queen Tavern), the items had disappeared from their inventory, but they hadn't equipped them. Frustrated, I got them into fights with conjured creatures and took their apprentice robes, but they stayed nekked instead of equipping another item. However, when I fast-traveled to another place, they had apprentice robes once again! I assume it has something to do with them respawning or such, but it may serve as a caution for those taking 'em as followers. Has anyone else experienced this? Another time I got them to briefly carry enchanted bound shields, but those disappeared as well. At no point did I dismiss them! xoxo Coryl

The mage apprentices and several other follower-type NPCs (I think) have a set inventory that they respawn after a certain amount of time or fast travel. From last I checked, the respawn time is seven in-game days from the last time you were in the same cell as them. Otherwise, when they fast travel with you their inventories are reset. If you're on the PC, you might be able to edit the scripts of the mage apprentices, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that. Hope this helps! --Zephyr5 17:09, 1 January 2009 (EST)

Lost my Apprentice!Edit

This is my first addition, so I'm probably not entering this right, but I told an apprentice to "Wait Here" a while ago, and I forgot where I told him to wait (I'm sure it made sense at the time). I'm on the XBox 360 so I can't use console commands and I can only have one mage apprentice follow me at a time. Any Ideas on how to find this apprentice? (Marcus)— Unsigned comment by 76.112.23.143 (talk) on 26 Aug. 2009

You seem to have problems with this don't you? :) Unlike the last one, you won't be able to get a quest marker on them. If you could somehow get the game to reset the area perhaps it could reset the apprentice. But other than that, I don't think you will be getting him back any time soon. –Elliot talk 01:09, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Script Bug?Edit

Arch-Mage Matt just posted the following on this article. Checking it out, I felt it needed to be discussed more.

It is possible to get two apprentices following you at once. If you recruit the black haired breton female, you can then get any other one to follow you. If you tell the black haired Breton female to leave, however, the other will leave too.

The scripts used on the Mages Apprentices are all in relation to their editor ID; MGMageApprentice2 uses ArcaneUApprentice2Script, MGMageApprentice5 uses ArcaneUApprenticeScript5, etc. The black-haired Breton female (MGMageApprentice), however, uses ArcaneUApprentice2Script. The scripts all look exactly the same, except this:
if ( MageConvSystem.ArchFollower == 0 )
        if ( MageConvSystem.Student2Var == 1 )
                set MageConvSystem.ArchFollower to 1
        endif
endif
All the other Mage Apprentices scripts reference themselves in this portion, but this script references a different Mage Apprentice (MGMageApprentice2, a dark-haired male Imperial). Since I don't know quite enough about what I'm reading, I brought it here for analysis before adding it back to the main page. --GKtalk2me 14:12, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't know about all that script stuff, but I have recruited the black-haired breton girl, she follows me and when I talked to another mage apprentice instead of their dissmissive diolouge ("I have much work to do, as you can well imagine") they had the option of 'Come with me' and it is working in my game... I have two Bretons following me. I wish I could get some sort of screenshot but I'm on the X-box. If any other Arch-Mage could test this by getting the black haired female breton with long natural hair (That is the best description I can give of her) to follow you and then talk to another apprentice, you should be able to get one more to follow you.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 14:48, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
I just noticed this after getting two of them to follow me during testing. I thought it was odd that I could have two followers, but I figured maybe the mages were different. Looking at the CS, though, the bug is fairly clear, exactly as GK implied, for MGMageApprentice, the script is set to ArcaneUApprentice2Script instead of ArcaneUApprentice1Script. Robin HoodTalk 02:49, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

That picture of a Breton Female is actually a picture of an Imperial Male.Edit

The title says it all. That is a male, you can tell by the lack of *ahem* torso features. --Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:37, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Checked In-Game; yes it is a female...I think its the robe that does that or the screenshot is at a weird angle.--Corevette789 00:00, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Sorry to question but even the face looks 100% male... poor gal. :) --Arch-Mage MattTalk 00:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
You identify faces differently than I do then, cuz I see that as female, though perhaps a somewhat masculine female. Robin HoodTalk 00:11, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually, looking at the full image, I see a male, and looking in-game, I don't see a female that looks like that. I think Matt might be right! I'll check the CS later, I don't have time right now to go through all 10. Robin HoodTalk 00:43, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Looking at them in the CS, that image looks like MGMageApprentice7, BaseID 0006AAAC (a male Imperial). --GKtalk2me 01:47, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I just went in-game and saw a male Imperial looking very much like that 'female' in the picture.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 01:51, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
So can someone revert that image into the more basic version but definetly female blonde Breton that was the picture before?--Arch-Mage MattTalk 01:55, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

<- I don't exactly do these things often, but I just uploaded one of all three Breton females. Is that good? Unfortunately, the one on the right blinked just as the...uh...flash went off...yeah, that's it! Robin HoodTalk 02:41, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Gah! I could swear that was 1000 x 1000 when I cropped it, but something obviously changed at some point. Should I re-crop and re-upload, or is that "square enough"? (Or do we even want all three in the same pic?) Robin HoodTalk 04:49, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
First of all... Mea culpa :P I actually uploaded the.. misleading image XD In any case RH, I think it's fine. Although you can re-upload it if you want as a 1000x1000 (and maybe brighten it up a bit) --SerCenKing Talk 14:53, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, if I can't be sure of the gender between the thumbnail and the large picture, I can't entirely blame you for having goofed...although if you think that's a woman's voice, you may need to get your ears checked. :Þ I've uploaded a truly square image this time (and figured out that my really old version of Paintshop Pro mis-reports the size of selections that go beyond image borders!), and I brightened it a little bit more. The captured image is a fair bit darker than what I see on-screen, so I only had so much to work with. It probably didn't help that the weather had turned cloudy. (And off-topic, it still amazes me to be having a discussion like this almost like I was taking real-life pics.) Robin HoodTalk 22:21, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Murdering Scum!Edit

Okay I will start at the beginning:

I became Arch-Mage and hired two Mage Apprentices. I took them to Hackdirt to help me with the quest. I went on a killing-spree. My male Mage was killing brethren and my female Mage accidentally zapped and killed him. Now she is wanted by the guards. She was always killed by the guards (although it took a platoon of Legion Soldiers to take her down once) and one guard normally hits the other and the guards attack each other then the residents attack the guards and the entire town dies! So I sacked her. 4 in-game weeks later I go to the university and my old apprentice is attacked by an Imperial Battlemage. The entire university attacked the two guards and all of the Mage Scholars and 2 Apprentices died in the attack! Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? If so put what happened below. Golden Eagle

This Happens to ANY NPC if they kill someone with a guard nearby or someone with a high Responsibility. With one of my characters I made the mistake of casting a powerful Frenzy spell inside te university grounds... now everytime i go to the arcane university the guards are killing my mage friends </3. So yes the behaviour is normal. --VergilSparda 11:50, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Gee thanks. Now the university is an Plane of Oblivimage! Golden Eagle
Lmao, It is quite cool at first but after a while you just learn to walk past the brawling and not get involved :')--VergilSparda 11:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Something still ponders me though. How come when the 'Good' guards attacked the 'Bad' guard, The 'Bad' guard did not attack? Golden Eagle
Hmm, do you mean the 'bad' guard didn't fight back? or didn't attack the mages?--VergilSparda 12:16, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I mean he did not fight back Golden Eagle
I have no idea --VergilSparda 18:32, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

You There! Stop talkingEdit

It says on the page that " "Wait here.": The Mage Apprentice will remain in the specified spot. The apprentice will not wander or engage in conversation with others, but will move to attack hostile creatures or NPCs that come within range". " If the Mage Apprentice is told to wait he/she WILL speak to other NPCs.. I told my Imperial Apprentice to wait around the table in the private quarters in Battlehorn and Rona Benanius frequently speaks to him. --VergilSparda 16:09, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

OBNPCRP TagEdit

Is there a particular reason the OBNPCRP tag "doesn't need to be here"? --GKtalk2me 21:28, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Generally speaking, pages which describe various NPCs don't really need a tag. This is because of various and differing schedules, inventories, spells, dialogues etc... A general overview of all these is enough and can be easily done without the complications of slapping a tag on the page. :) --SerCenKing Talk 12:03, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Speech error?Edit

I was playing my game on the 360, and a red-haired imperial mage apprentice approached another red-haired imperial mage apprentice and told him that he "urgently needed to speak with him" or something like that, but he stopped half way through, then said the whole line again. It sounds like one of the speech errors I've seen on the 'glitches' page, and I was wondering if this was one of them. Can anyone confirm this for me? — Unsigned comment by 76.21.230.121 (talk) on 4 August 2010

I assume you mean the "Magister! We must talk! Please... It's rather urgent." line? In any case, I just checked all the mages guild "Hello" lines and none of them have that problem. It's more likely that you heard somebody else start the same conversation or that something interrupted the previous speaker and then they started again. rpeh •TCE 07:19, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
No, there is actually a speech error with all the male Imperial Apprentices. The exact line is "I won't take up much of your time, but I felt you should know, I've had a breakthrough." They suddenly stumble at "I felt you should know" and then repeat the whole line, similar to what happens with the Redguards and the Spriggans rumor. I can't check right now as I'm a little bit rushed (I just remembered it), but if someone could verify, it would be much appreciated. --S'drassa T2M 13:55, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

My Mage follower keeps attacking me on site!Edit

i had a mage follower for awhile and decided to kill the adoring fan a few times. and now she attacks me on site! anyway i can get her to like me again? i charmed her so i could get her to stop following. but when i go to the university she attacks me causing a brawl between mages and guards (360 version)65.183.212.114 02:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

How's your Sneak skill? If it's high enough you can stay sneaking then fast travel to the AU. She should be completely oblivious to you allowing you to kill her without getting caught; thus she won't start a fight between guards and mages.--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 19:53, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I would rather make her like me again...is there anyway on the 360 that i can? killing her just gets me expelled.65.183.212.114 20:46, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Here are some suggestions: Yielding, using a command spell to lead her away from the guild (and possibly lead her to get killed by a random creature so you won't get expelled), load an earlier save if possible, or just charm her then raise her disposition (she must be charmed before fighting you). Hope one of these helps. -- Jplatinum16 21:19, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

She doesn't have the option to raise her disposition, and it doesn't seem to reset when she gets killed, plus it most be extermelly low because she refuses to yield unless my weapon is put away.. all this hassle because i wanted a black soul gem with the Fans soul on my fire place...thanks anyway, im just gonna start a new file and avoid committing crimes with any followers with high respons65.183.212.114 19:08, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

woopsEdit

im pretty sure ive left an apprentice with the orders to wait, but i cant remember where and now i cant get any to follow me, do they go back to the university eventually? (From Fear to Eternity- Eddie The Head 13:42, 24 August 2011 (UTC))

four apprenticesEdit

I was wanting to see how many people I could slay with my mage apprentices, I was able to get four my first attempt ever, but after that I could barely get two, this is no lie, I'd like someone else to try first attempt and see how many you can get, make them follow, wait, then return to study and ask the next one to follow them turn back and have that one follow you, I think I just happened to go male, female, male, female

Spell IDs?Edit

How would I get the IDs of the spells used by the Apprentices? Among other things, I'd like to stop them using Bound Armor spells, but trying to remove the only default spell with the Armor they're using does nothing. --Debatra (talk) 01:26, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Return to "Mage Apprentice" page.
