Oblivion talk:Unmarked Places

If any of you have found more unmarked places, feel free to add them to the list, with some info on them too.--Willyhead 07:40, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

Would it be useful to add a link to the Wayshrines' page? They're technically unmarked as well. Just to be overly concerned with details and whatnot ;) --CharmSpell 13:01, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Good suggestion, i've just done it- thanks for pointing that out CharmSpell.--Willyhead 14:27, 16 July 2007 (EDT) Now i've also added some links to pages that contain other perculiarities.--Willyhead 15:39, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Oh and I would be very grateful for some bridge/Harbor images such as the large bridge that stands above the Ayleid ruin Vanua, if someone adds an image of one of these they would have my grattitude ;) (I would do it myself but I am currently playing on Xbox and sold my PC copy!)--Willyhead 16:19, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Black Fish RockEdit

Is this coming from a mod? I couldn't picture what you meant so just went to take a look... and still can't picture what you mean. Is this a rock right on the coast? In the sea itself? A little help would be appreciated! --RpehTalk 02:08, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

It's on a hill directly between Gweden Farm and Dunbarrow Cove, it is pretty tall and thin (Tower-like) standing next to a large boulder- there is nothing else like it in the gold coast area. I have no Mods installed either (Except the official ones)-hope this info helps.--Willyhead 10:18, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
If you look directly at gweden farm on the online map, you can see the rock on the right side of the page- there is a big yellow box around it.--Willyhead 10:33, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
That's an old Oblivion Gate! If that's what you're referring to then it should come off the page. --RpehTalk 12:55, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
I found it before the gates had started spawning. Try starting a new game and going there- before the oblivion gates start spawning- It'll be there I'm sure- It's quite possible that it gets demolished by the Oblivion gate when the oblivion crisis starts.--Willyhead 13:43, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
The yellow box you've mentioned on the map contains a completely boring 1 foot tall rock, with a couple of flax plants next to it. The only reason there's a yellow box on the Oblivion map is because there are two butterflies that will flit around within the box. So I'm really not seeing anything unusual at the location you're pointing to. --NepheleTalk 14:16, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
In that case I must have got the location wrong- the rock I'm talking about is approx 16 foot tall and very black. Check around the area before the Oblivion Crisis starts- it's pretty unmisable- its very tall.--Willyhead 14:21, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
I just took a look with a new character. It's a fairly standard rock. If you hadn't pointed it out I'd never have noticed it. --RpehTalk 14:45, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
I just did a little check and realized that Black Fish Rock is actually an Oblivion rock- I've seen rocks similar to it outside other oblivion gates and inside Oblivion on a different profile. But what I don't understand is that the character I found it with has not touched the main quest- so what is an oblivion rock doing in the middle of the gold coast?--Willyhead 15:10, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
Also I could see it from miles around- a big, tall black rock in the middle of the yellow grass and mossy rocks of the gold coast stood out quite blatantly to me- sure you saw the correct rock?--Willyhead 15:14, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
Yes I'm sure I got the correct one. And yes when you squint it looks like a fish but it doesn't really stand out. And it's certainly not noteworthy enough to merit a section on the page. Compare and contrast: "A ring of dead trees with heads on spikes and a chest" vs "A Rock". Doesn't make the grade really... --RpehTalk 15:20, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
You've got a point, but I still don't get why a large black Oblivion rock is standing when I haven't even completed Deliver the Amulet...--Willyhead 15:23, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
From what I can figure out, the rock you're referring to is identified as a rock of type OBTalonRockLg02. It is part of the collection of rocks that appear to create the Oblivion Gate; the "OB" part of the name is generally reserved for Oblivion-related items. I think the only unusual fact about this rock is that it was left out of the parent group that defines the Oblivion Gate features. Therefore it is always visible, instead of only appearing after the Oblivion Gate appears.
In general, though, I don't think that slightly unusual looking features need to be included on this page. I think the page should be reserved for (a) features that players will come across and undoubtedly notice and wonder "is this part of a quest?" and therefore go to some effort to look up on the wiki or (b) features that readers would see on this page and might want to go out of their way just to see them. I don't think an oddly shaped rock (especially one that is used hundreds of times in the game) qualifies on either count. --NepheleTalk 15:28, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
I would agree. At the time I wrote about the rock, I didn't know that there were hundreds more like it- I thought it was unique. I wonder if there are any more unmarked places left in Cyrodiil to be documented on this page..... I'll keep searching.--Willyhead 15:34, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

Roasted Rat CampEdit

I found this Image:Roasted Rat Camp.bmp — Unsigned comment by Elux (talkcontribs)

Sorry, but there's no image there...it's just a blank box. Perhaps you should try uploading it again? --Eshe 16:52, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
Try clicking on it. — Unsigned comment by Elux (talkcontribs)
bmp format images are not supported by the wiki and are a bad choice in general for web images. See Help:Images for more information. I'm deleting the image because it can't be used and is taking up too much disk space on the server. If you would like to change the format into a supported format (i.e., jpg) and re-upload it, then it could be used on the site. --NepheleTalk 17:37, 10 September 2007 (EDT)

How do i turn it into a .jpg?

Open the image using some sort of graphics editor (MSPaint for example if you're using Windows), select File > Save As > Choose jpeg from the menu > Save. --Saruuk 07:07, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
Image:Roasted Rat Camp.JPG — Unsigned comment by Elux (talkcontribs)
I'm not sure what the point is of this image. If you're just trying to point out that there is an unmarked bandit camp east of Dragonclaw Rock, yes, there is a camp there, and it probably should be added to this page. However, its name (according to the construction set) is Two Decker Camp, not Roasted Rat Camp.
And, sorry, but the image you've uploaded isn't really up to site standards for maps or images. There are better ways of showing readers where the camp is located. For example, a link to the oblivion map. Or mentioning that it's the camp along the unmarked road leading from Dragonclaw Rock. --NepheleTalk 21:51, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

I named it Roasted Rat Camp, because i did not know the name. I'm sorry my picture showing the location ofsaid camp isn't upto par, i was just trying to make it easy, as i know someone would just complain that i need to provide an image. — Unsigned comment by 205.251.148.143 (talk)

Actually, I'm sure the article would have been marked as needing an image, then we would just wait until somebody found one. It would be better to mark the camp's location using the oblivion map (like Nephele suggested) and find a picture of the camp itself for the article. There's no rush though--if you can't get a quality image right away, somebody will fix the image or find a better one. --Eshe 09:50, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
Shall I add it to the list?--Willyhead 10:47, 12 September 2007 (EDT)?
Sure, why not? Just make sure you use the correct name, which according to Nephele is "Two Decker Camp." --Eshe 11:02, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
Okay I've added the camp, but I do not know much about it, so 205.251.148.143 can you provide me with details on the camp please? Much obliged.--Willyhead 11:14, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Unmarked Bandit CampEdit

This one is Between Belletor's Folly and Dasek Moor, or northeast of Troll Candle Camp.

Although I only encountered two bandits, there are 7 beds, a bigger than usual-looking fire(?), four sacks, two barrels, (one with "Brief History of the Empire, v4" laying atop it.), and eight stools.

Aaah do you mean this one? I shall investigate it now!--Willyhead 13:37, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
Well done for finding that camp- it's the largest camp on the list! Nice one!--Willyhead 14:39, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
I also found a large buried plank of wood SE of Troll Candle Camp. It probably doesn't deserve a place on this page but it was still a pretty random find.--Willyhead 14:41, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
Yes, I can't believe we missed that camp. I think I've found the buried piece of wood you mention and no - it doesn't deserve a place on the page. It's an oddity but not really outstanding. --RpehTalk 03:11, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Another OneEdit

This location is between 'U' and 'N' of County Bruma, being alittle more on the U.

This location is extremely odd, there's a pole sticking in the ground, an un-lit campfire, a no-named bottle of wine (you can't even pick it up), and a sack with a piece of yarn inside. All on the pinnacle of a tall rock.

I just got around to checking this one. I can't find it, but on the other hand the location you mention is almost exactly where Frostcrag Spire appears. Have you installed that mod? --RpehTCE 16:23, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I saw something mentioned about this on the Gnoll Mountain page, referring to it as a reference to the Simpsons. I think the reference has been dismissed since I saw it, however now that you have mentioned it it's probably real (aka worth looking into). Check the history on the Gnoll mountain page for more details.--Willyhead 19:38, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
Yes, the stick and sack are the reference to the Simpsons episode. Someone made the distinction of mastering the highest point in all the land, but apparently didn't master the art of fine flag-making. —Dark Spark 01:55, 10 January 2008 (EST)

The Posting of the HuntEdit

I actually knew of this spot previously, but forgot the location..

This location is located on the 'E' of "The Colovian Highlands". There is a skeleton carrying a brass ring, and bonemeal. A chest contains a portion of gold, and a silver carafe, lying atop the chest is a quiver of arrows (10). There's also a sack containing gold, and finally the book "The Posting of the Hunt" is laying nearby.

I found this one but it's right by a Wayshrine of Stendarr so if it's going to be mentioned, it should be on the Wayshrines page rather than here. --RpehTCE 16:23, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

The Burnt Down TowerEdit

Described in the article already, the burned-out building south of Fort Irony doesn't look like a tower or a fort. By all appearances, it's the burned shell of a smithy, the tower being the remnants of the forge. The smithy of Cheydinhal inhabits a building that looks like an intact example of this one.Dark Spark 00:46, 1 January 2008 (EST)

Torches and ChestEdit

While exploring the mountains, I found a staircase and two torches with a chest at the top northwest of Cloud Ruler Temple. The chest contained some gold and a silver pitcher and is unmarked.

I found that too. It's certainly quite interesting, but I'm not 100% sure that it deserves a place on the page. Also, I think that the chest that sits between the beacons can be used to stash equipment in safely. Ah, screw it, I'll add it to the page.--Willyhead 08:36, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Undiscovered Lake?Edit

At the bottom of the 'D' in County Skingrad. The first notable feature are the two waterfalls, though there are actually two lakes connected by a waterfall and the upper-level lake has its own. There is also quite an abundance of alchemy ingredients in-and-around both lakes aswell. It's really a site to behold. — Unsigned comment by 72.139.22.58 (talk)

I know the one you mean and it is indeed a beautiful lake but it doesn't deserve a mention on this article. This is for man-made places only. If you like that lake, there's another nice one (though not as pretty) just off the Orange Road (see the note on that page). –RpehTCE 12:09, 31 January 2008 (EST)

Island StashEdit

I'm not sure if this is peculiar enough to warrant a place on this page so I'm posting it here.

I found a small Island to the east of Black Dog Camp in the center of the Panther River (located here on the online map). On the island is a smashed crate, a barrel, and a chest containing misc treasure. There are two mudcrabs on the island and within the smashed crate is a nirnroot.--Willyhead 12:23, 31 January 2008 (EST)

The way the Nirnroot is hidden, one would think you were meant to find this island.— Unsigned comment by 72.139.22.58 (talk)

Honditar's ShackEdit

Would this be considered an unmarked place?

I don't really think so. I'd personally class it as part of Chorrol since the town music plays when you're near it, but aside from that it could be added to the page.--Willyhead 13:46, 23 February 2008 (EST)
I think this page is starting to include stuff that's too obvious. The Leyawiin Coast Guard Station, Melus Petilius' House, Pale Pass Fort, Smuggler's Cave, The Great Gate, The Sentinel, Grove of Trials/Kynareth's Grotto, Shrine of Kynareth and Vanua should probably all come off. They're all quest-related to some degree or another and players will find them without any degree of difficulty. Having said that, Honditar's shack doesn't fall into the "quest-related" group but I really don't think it should go on.
Let's look back at the start of this page and the original idea behind it: it was supposed to highlight the less-obvious parts of the map - the ones players might overlook. It's now including absolutely anything without a map marker, by which definition even the White Gold Tower could be included! This has been bugging me for a while. If nobody has any serious objections I'm going to remove the items listed above in a week. –RpehTCE 14:21, 23 February 2008 (EST)
I agree. I think the page should focus on unmarked things that most players won't necessarily find. Locations that are unmarked but related to quests don't really qualify for that, in my opinion. —Eshetalk15:05, 23 February 2008 (EST)
Me three. I think filling the page with places that players will already know about from quests just makes it hard for readers to find the information they're really looking for. I'd rather have a short page that contains only the worthwhile places instead of a long page that tries to be comprehensive but just makes it hard to identify the worthwhile places. --NepheleTalk 17:34, 23 February 2008 (EST)
Hmm, perhaps all the places Rpeh mentioned should be placed under the 'other unmarked places' part of the page. The images could be deleted and the information simplified a little. Each of the places mentioned (apart from the Leyawiin Coastguard station) have separate pages describing them in more detail so it would be best just to provide some links to these locations. I still think the obvious or quest related places should have a mention on the page since they're still unmarked after all.--Willyhead 18:17, 23 February 2008 (EST)

(outdent) I've done the cleanup. I've taken most of the ones in that list off and moved some others to the "other" section. In particular, all the KotN items bar one have come off for the simple reason that you can't finish KotN without knowing about them. I still think there's more that could come off but that will do for now. –RpehTCE 03:35, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Another CampEdit

Its just to the left and up of the "B" in Basin of the Nibenay Basin. Its a tent on a cliffside with a lot of beer, a skull and a cheese wheel.--Morgoth

Good find! Now added. I called it "Valley Head Camp" –RpehTCE 03:35, 27 February 2008 (EST)

Unmarked fortessEdit

I am pretty sure this isn't in the article.

I found a unmarked fortress some where in the Imperial reserve I think, I forgot to mark where it was sadly. Anyway, a large part of the wall was missing, where you can walk right under it and into the fortress. I was attacked by a rat there. Maybe that can help you guys is looking up what I found. Also, there is no door inside it. 77BeTa77 21:13, 2 March 2008 (EST)

Never mind, turn out it was Lord Vlindrel's Tower. 77BeTa77 21:17, 2 March 2008 (EST)

Wellspring GroveEdit

What about the large island in Lake Rumare that contains the grove and altar featured in the quest concerning Oblivion:A Mage's Staff? --Dark Spark 03:18, 8 March 2008 (EST)

You know, "Unmarked Places" really wasn't the right name for this page. If we listed every single item that doesn't get a map marker the page would be several hundred K long. I just removed a lot of places for being too obvious, and a huge island in the middle of Lake Rumare that forms a key part of a Mages Guild quest definitely counts as being too obvious. A better name for the page would be "Interesting Stuff That You Wouldn't Normally Find In The Course Of Playing The Game And We Thought You'd Like To Hear About", although that might be a tad too long. –RpehTCE 10:40, 8 March 2008 (EST)
Ah, I see. May I suggest "Untouched Places", meaning those little locations that no actual quest touches upon, so you're never deliberately led there and the only means of finding them is through rambling exploration? --Dark Spark 12:47, 8 March 2008 (EST)

Ruined StructureEdit

There's a ton of these what's so special about this one? — Unsigned comment by 72.139.121.112 (talk)

If you know the locations of so many then why not add them to the page?--Willyhead 16:29, 8 March 2008 (EST)
Because there's nothing special about them..? — Unsigned comment by 72.139.121.112 (talk)
Most of the others are more obviously part of a fort. This one is at least on its own... –RpehTCE 04:11, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

Part of an Ayleid RuinEdit

On the d of Lake Popped is part of an Ayleid wall.

Yes, but it's clearly part of the ruins of nearby Vahtacen. –RpehTCE 05:42, 29 March 2008 (EDT)

Dark GroveEdit

Man, it would have been cool if there was an entire forest like that. It could have been inhabited by monsters and vampires as well as goblins. I think there aren't enough eerie areas in Oblivion. There's the Planes of Oblvion itself, but the shades of red look like they belong in a Crayola 48-pack.

I suppose there is Kvatch. You'll find plenty of dead trees and burnt down houses there!--Willyhead/t 11:47, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

(Additional comment moved to Easter Eggs Talk.) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 22:48, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

Ruined WayshrineEdit

How about the broken wayshrine to the west of Chorrol? It (and another near Malada) is briefly mentioned on the Wayshrines page, but would it fit here? It is very isolated, standing in 1 of 3 small lakes right next to the capital "H" in "The Colovian Highlands", along what would be the imaginary continuation of The Black Road. Two of the lakes have chests with minor loot and a Nirnroot is nearby, so it may count as notable. It was quite a nice surprise to discover while stumbling about in the forest :) 202.7.176.138 15:44, 29 August 2008 (EDT)

Wayshrines aren't anything special. There are two broken ones and they get a brief mention on the Wayshrines page. –RpehTCE 16:57, 29 August 2008 (EDT)

Random TrapdoorEdit

A few times in the forrest somewhere between Skingrad and the IC, ive come accros a rock with a trapdoor on the top that leads down to a small room. has anyone else found this, and if they have, can they tell me a bit more accurately where it is? — Unsigned comment by 86.7.112.101 (talk) on 23 October 2008

My first guess is that you're talking about the back entrance to Ceyatatar, located here on the map. More information about the trapdoor is provided on Ceyatatar's article. --NepheleTalk 19:36, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

GraveyardEdit

Northwest of Fort Variela, just east of a Wayshrine of Tiber Septim, is a graveyard. Perhaps it's part of Fort Variela, but otherwise it might deserve a mention on this page. (sorry if it's brought up before) Wolok gro-Barok 12:30, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

You mean the graveyard on the "b" in "the nibenay valley?" Ikiyahmae 22:22, 29 June 2009 (UTC) Ikiyahmae

It's the graveyard immediately to the NW of Fort Variela. http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml?locx=58310&locy=2331&zoom=15&search=fort%20variela
I think it's fairly obvious that it belongs to the fort, as does the dock next to the river. Arthmoor 20:46, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Reference taken from the ArticleEdit

This is a comment that was left on the page earlier. It was regarding the Burnt Down Tower.

"This may be a reference to the trees of Minas Morgul and Minas Tirith, within J.R.R. Tolkeins novels, The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy."

Sound a bit dubious to me since there is nothing else in or around the tower to support this claim. On the other hand it is certainly strange that there is a white tree in the middle of a pile of ashes. Does anyone have any more views on this?--Willyhead/t 09:23, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

Harbors?Edit

Shouldn't the subject be called 'Piers'? I'm no expert, but I think a harbor implies a city and a place where large ships dock (and posibby a lot of harlots for the respective crews). In the specific cases mantioned in the article there is just a small pier for small ships — Unsigned comment by 190.162.64.74 (talk) at 02:32 on 22 July 2009 (UTC)

I agree; piers are the actually structures. I went ahead and changed it. --Elliot(T-C) 02:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

YouTube vidsEdit

There are some videos on YouTube documenting the unmarked places (with map locations). There are 2 vids so far: this one and this one, in case anyone needs a hand in locating any of the places.--86.143.109.77 22:49, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

NoteEdit

I don't know if anyone else noticed but there is one of those random notes you find referring to a grove of dead trees and some directions to a house. Is the note true and is there the location described in the note?--Corevette789 01:03, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Note 00068C13 Head north for a hour or so. You'll see a group of dead trees. Head northeast until you come to the water. Follow the shore upstream. His house is close by. Watch out for bears.

Found in: Lake Arrius Shrine Antechamber, Bruma Fighters Guild Basement --Corevette789 01:05, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I don't think it relates to the Dark Grove as the closest body of water to it is the Corbolo River and even more, the only settlement in the river is Drakelowe, where only Melisande lives, and she clearly isn't a man. --MC S'drassa T2M 01:42, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah well, it was worth a shot, thanks--Corevette789 02:35, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Lake TempleEdit

I found a ruined temple (just a circle of columns with some lintels set on top) standing in a small lake or pond. At the base is a chest with minor loot. It is located due west of Chorrol, between the words "Colovian" and "Highlands." — Unsigned comment by 70.248.114.122 (talk) on 22 May 2010

Are you talking about the broken wayshrine found here? If so, it doesn't really belong on the article -- the bottom of the page already lists Wayshrines, and the Wayshrines page has a note about the broken ones. --NepheleTalk 16:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I think you are correct. But I can't tell for 100% sure from the map you linked to. I don't see how it could be anything else though.

Chest on rock?Edit

I was on the way to the Dark Fissure when I found a lone chest on top of a large rock. Not sure if lone chests warrant any notice, but it's located between Hero Hill and Dark fissure, in line with Swampy Cave. It didn't have any remarkable loot inside it. Melleh17 05:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Viewpoint?Edit

a couple of weeks ago i ran across a reference on UESP about 'a rare view of-' i can't remember how it ends. it adds a few map markers, apparently. i can't find it again, though. can anyone help me out? if what i'm thinking is right it should be somewhere in northwestern Cyrodiil, if that helps. Arcanus Redwolf 16:52, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

You are thinking of Dive rock. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

The original All Things AlchemicalEdit

I don't know if it's worth checking out or putting under the section for the burned down alchemy shop south of Fort Magia, but I've tested both of the chests in it and they seem to be non-respawning. I waited for 24 hours 3 times after putting a crystal ball in each chest, since 3 days is usually when items respawn in containers, and neither chest respawned. Maybe someone else could test this? 72.147.59.160 23:48, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Neither chest respawns, but is this really remarkable? rpeh •TCE 07:54, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
To some people it is honda1996 7:59 pm april 4th 2011
It's not that I think it's remarkable, far from it in fact. There are plenty of non-respawning containers. I was just wondering if this was worth mentioning on the page, nothing else. It's perfectly fine if it isn't. 72.147.58.27 01:31, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Worth adding a little speculation?Edit

I understand the Wiki is primarily about presenting raw facts, but could it hurt to present a few theories about unmarked places? Particularly ones with obvious explanations, like the original All Things Alchemical (burned to ground while testing/creating resist fire potions)? --Admos 00:43, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

No speculation, please. That road doesn't lead anywhere good. rpeh •TCE 10:20, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Overgrown CampEdit

Since I don't have the time nor the energy to make an edit on the article, I'll leave the information here: There is a small, overgrown camp a bit south of Nenyond Twyll that contains two tents, two bedrolls, a cooking pot positioned above what was supposed to be a campfire (there is no firewood) and a single bowl. 173.168.133.71 19:22, 29 April 2013 (GMT)

It's documented here. —Legoless (talk) 19:24, 29 April 2013 (GMT)
