Inventory
The page states that the formula here is what you'll see in your inventory, but this must be incorrect since you can watch the damage rating for a weapon change in your inventory after repairing it. Probably the complete formula is shown in inventory instead of this simplified one.--Dev akm 13:57, 12 April 2007 (EDT)

damage formula?
I think the formula needs at least a few extra notes, or preferably to be extended... Fatigue modifier? Weapon wear modifier? Power attack vs normal slash? And of course enemy's armour, shield etc damage reduction.
The formule also doesn't work with bows, i'm not sure but maybe strength must then be replaced by agility. And is weapon damage then bow damage + arrow damage?
- Concerning the enemy's armour, that should just be left in the Armor section. What the formula here should reflect, is the damage that the weapon deals (i.e. the amount of damage that the weapon ejects), not the amount of HP that the enemy loses. --MiSP 09:38, 7 May 2006 (EDT)
-
- I'm fairly sure fatigue and weapon condition are straight % modifiers. 50% fatigue means you do half as much damage. 50% fatigue and 50% condition mean you do 25% damage. I haven't tested it yet, but it seems plausible. I'll look into it (and bows) when I get the chance.

- --Thehankerchief 14:54, 14 May 2006 (EDT)
-
- It seems to me Fatigue is more of a cost type system. Much like magica is to magery. When you swing the weapon it cost so much fatigue to do so. If you don't have enough fatigue to pay the cost you use what you have to get a fraction of the damage. i.e. If you only have enough fatigue to pay half the cost you would do 50% of the damage. Just the way it seems to me, havn't done anything to prove this. Just my personal experince is I still inflict full damage when my fatigue is below half.
- --Lorenz03Tx 01:02, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
- This Formula seems, well, just wrong. Weapon conditon and Fatigue should probably be in there, but that aside, the numbers just don't add up. Consider 100 strength and 100 skill. You get -> weapon damage * .08 * 8.5 = .68 * weapon damage. So even with all your stats and skills maxed out you can only do 68% of the damage listed for a weapon? And I still don't think that the question for bow damage has been addressed. How does arow damage ratting and the bow ratting add up to get the value to use for your wepon damage?
- --Lorenz03Tx 00:54, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
-
- The weapon damage formula is correct. Check your math: Google Calculator. On the subject of fatigue: I did some tests, and the fatigue multiplier works approximately like this: Damage * ( Fatigue / MaxFatigue + 1 ) / 2. This isn't exact, since the minimum isn't quite %50 damage (lowest I got was 4.2 out of a max 8.0 damage). --Thehankerchief 05:00, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

This section of the article was recently deleted by a new user User:Outvik, with no reason why. This is his first edit. When deleting and modifying other people's work, one should always provide at the minimum a reason. Especially when you're deleting an entire section, you should probably start a section about it on the discussion page first to describe why it doesn't belong. More weapons
I can think of heaps of unenchanted weapons that ought to be here. For example, what about dremora weapons, and akaviri katanas and dai katanas.— Unsigned comment by Pat 123 (talk • contribs)

Hand to Hand
What about the base damage for hand to hand?
^ That's actually a pretty good one. The settings for hand to hand I can find are:
fAIDefaultAttackHandBonus 5.0000
fAIMeleeHandMult 1.3000
fHandDamageSkillBase 0.0000
fHandDamageSkillMult 1.0000
fHandDamageStrengthBase 0.0000
fHandDamageStrengthMult 0.7500
fHandFatigueDamageBase 1.0000
fHandFatigueDamageMult 0.5000
fHandHealthMax 15.0000
fHandHealthMin 1.0000
fHandReachMult 0.6000
So, somewhere in there is the base damage for hand to hand. Umm... from TES website, "The base amount of health and fatigue damage done is based on the attacker's hand-to-hand skill and luck, and as with weapon attacks, that amount is further adjusted based on the defender's stats.". What's wrong with this picture? Where's strength fit in?
Th232 03:11, 5 February 2007 (EST)
- At TESCSWiki you can find complete information on how all those variables are used to calculate hand to hand damage. For default settings, the formulae work out to:
- health_damage = 1.0 + 10.5 * (Strength / 100) * (HandToHand / 100)
- fatigue_damage = 1 + 0.5*health_damage
- I happened to stumble across this TESCSWiki page while looking for some completely unrelated info just now. Since the equation almost matches a formula I'd previously seen (see Oblivion talk:The Complete Damage Formula) and can be tied to known CS settings, I'm going to assume that it is a correct formula and add it to the appropriate pages. --Nephele 17:34, 8 February 2007 (EST)
range and speed of mace?
the page says the range of the mace is 1... but if u look at its length compared to longsword while holding it its shorter. plus i think the speed is a bit faster than longssword, although the page says opposite. can someone check the stats again? --Wtf 20:40, 23 January 2007 (EST)
- Those are the correct numbers taken directly from the Construction Set. Just because the sword looks longer doesn't mean that it actually is in terms of game mechanics. As for speed, keep in mind that your attack speed is partly dependent upon your relevant weapon skill. If you are highly skilled at Blunt weapons and much less skilled with Blades, then the Mace may indeed be faster. To test, you'd need a character with identical values for both skills. Time how many swings per minute you get, as the swing part of the animation may be faster while the recovery is slower or vice versa Unfortunately, it's a bit harder to do practical testing on range, as most targets will move. But try finding one of those practice dummies at a Fighters Guild or something, and see if the sword's range is actually longer as it appears to be. I don't think it that's the case, however. --TheRealLurlock Talk 22:32, 23 January 2007 (EST)
Blunt/Blade
- It has been reported that blade weapons may become blunt and vice versa.
This note was added to the page, but I've moved it here unless someone can confirm. I don't see offhand how a weapon could change from blade to blunt, except through some type of mod. There are a couple odd weapons (such as the Mace of Doom) that appear to be one type of weapon, but are in fact the other. However, the Mace of Doom doesn't change back and forth: it is always a weapon whose damage is determined by the player's blade skill and using it always increases blade skill. --Nephele 02:22, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
Tutorial Dungeon Weapons
For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned on the page that the Rusty Iron Bow (00047ACA) can only be found in the tutorial dungeon (aka Imperial Sewers). There's also three Clubs (00159829) that can be found in the tutorial dungeon that ignore normal weapon resistance, while the ones found outside of the dungeon (0003B375) do not. Lastly, there are two Rusty Iron Daggers (00047AC2) found in there that are worth 5 gold instead of the normal 2 (00090616). If this information belongs on a different page, then can someone please add it to wherever it needs to go. --Kia 20:05, 15 June 2007 (EDT)
- I totally agree. On the Misc. items page it lists the mortar & pestle from the tutorial separately. Also, the unique tutorial items don't seem to be duplicatable.69.204.11.122 22:20, 15 March 2009 (EDT)
- I'm fairly certain I've come across Rusty Iron Bows belonging to Goblin Archers. Of course, that could just be my poor memory... I'll be sure to update this should I ever find one out in the wilderness. 92.2.208.7 13:29, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Speed
What exactly does that rating mean, swings per second? Also, didn't I read in the manual or loading screens that a weapon's weight determines how fast you can swing it? I guess that's BS since Goldbrand is more than twice the weight of an Akiviri Sunderblade, yet they both swing at the same speed.RumblePen 00:40, 29 June 2007 (EDT)RumblePen
- I'd just like to second this question- Is a weapon's damage rating per hit, or a general damage per second estimate? If the damage is not per hit, I see no reason to pick a quick weapon over a slower one with a higher damage rating. For example, I'd prefer to use daggers over longswords, but I can't bring myself to do that when (at level 14 on this character) I have a longsword with 14 damage and a dagger that does 9. Along the same lines, will a dagger do as much sneak damage as a longsword given equal level weapons and identical conditions, or should I "backstab" them with the longsword and switch to a dagger? — Unsigned comment by 74.197.122.116 (talk)
- The damage rating is the damage per hit. Any enchantments are also per hit. For sneak attacks, the damage for the single sneak hit is six times the weapon's standard damage (assuming your sneak level is at least 25). So for maximum sneak damage, it's best to use the one-handed weapon with the highest damage (as currently listed in your character's inventory).
- What's unclear is simply how many hits per second you get for each of the various speed ratings. If someone would like to test it and find out, the information would be a welcome addition. But until someone does the tests, there's no way to answer the question. --NepheleTalk 13:08, 30 August 2007 (EDT)
Daedric For Sale
Melliwin of Dunbarrow Cove sold me a Daedric Bow when my avatar was level 25. This seems to contradict the information on the weapons page that indicates (to my understanding) that Daedric is only available from loot and not from merchants. Is this unique to the downloads? Are they taken into consideration in relation to the level available list?
- It's possible the NPCs added by the official mods do not have the same restriction. The other possibility is that you sold her the bow earlier and forgot about it. At any rate, the statement is still true for all merchants in Oblivion without the plug-ins. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:37, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
-
- Yes, Melliwin's vendor chest is stocked with items using loot-type leveled lists instead of the vendor leveled lists used by all of the standard game merchants. This means that the arrows and bows (both enchanted and unenchanted) that she carries are comparable to those that you would find in a dungeon, both in terms of the level at which they appear and in terms of the quality that is available. This is true of at least some of the other plugin merchants, too. --NepheleTalk 19:29, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
Exceptions to the normal rules in any category should (in my opinion) be noted in the main pages (as opposed to "discussion" pages) for anything involving the "official mods". I have not yet seen any notable changes to the main page of this topic yet. User created mods are of course too many and too often changing to be mentioned in such a manner. — Unsigned comment by 72.67.80.126 (talk)
- You are free to make any changes you think are needed to the article. That's the point of a wiki: everyone can add information that they think is needed. And doing it yourself generally works better than trying to convince other people that it needs to be done. For example, I'd personally rather wait until I have a chance to investigate all of the mod-related merchants before making a substantial change to the section. --NepheleTalk 03:20, 29 July 2007 (EDT)
Changed from "never available from vendors" to "never available from vendors available before plug-ins". Hope it doesn't end up too misleading and like you said editing is a major point of a wiki, right? If it needs fixing I am sure someone will do so.

Bound Weapons
Ok, I was wondering about the base damage for Bound Weapons. I summoned a Bound Dagger, and it wasn't as good as a Glass Dagger, and Glass Weapons are not as good as Daedric Weapons. So if anyone could tell me what the Bound Weapons' damage is similar to, that would be great.
Resist Normal Arrows?
The Silver/Daedric Bows and Arrows are each marked as "Ignores Resist Normal Weapons Effects". If someone used a Daedric Bow and non-enchanted, non-Silver/Daedric Arrows on a Ghost/Wraith/etc, would the arrows matter? --Debatra 19:18, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- As long as either the bow or arrow is silver/daedric, it can damage creatures with 100% resistance to normal weapons, regardless of the bow/arrow combination used. --Saruuk 21:47, 29 June 2008 (EDT)
- And apparently, since the Dremora arrows weigh a pound each (!) and the Daedric ones two and a half times as much as any other arrow, it makes much more sense in terms of emcumbrance to go with the weapon rather than the ammo. 71.200.138.188 15:42, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Blades vs Blunts
Overall, Blades are superior to Blunts in virtually every case, regardless of what fighting style you prefer (Speed vs Reach, etc).
Battle Axes are without exception inferior to the equivalent Claymore, as they have the same Speed and Damage, but with less Reach.
Maces are without exception inferior to the equivalent Longsword, as they have the same Reach and Damage, but are slower.
Warhammers have the same Reach as Claymores, with fractionally more Damage, but are significantly slower. The same goes for Shortswords/WarAxes.
Daggers have no Blunt counterpart (or even anything remotely close), which is critical to close-in (i.e. max DPS) fighting styles, since the majority of a weapon's damage nearly always comes from its enchantment, even at very low levels and just using Sigil Stones (let alone exploit-laden custom uberweapons).
If you want to roleplay a "Blunt Weapon Character", by all means do so. If you get a kick out of watching Volendrung paralyze enemies, go ahead and enjoy it. But if you want your character to Be All That She Can Be, use a Blade. The only thing Blunts are good for is padding out your levelup Strength increases. :)

- But then. Isn't roleplaying all this game's about. ;) --Timenn < talk > 18:53, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
- The point of blunt weapons in Morrowind was that their high weight (for the two handed versions) caused your enemy to be knocked down quite frequently. This was a fairly powerful effect. Is this not still the case? — Unsigned comment by 96.32.188.25 (talk)

- It appears to still be the case in Oblivion. Although I don't have any metrics to indicate this, it certainly seems to me (and to others) that blunt weapons knock down people more frequently than blades. --Gaebrial 05:49, 29 January 2009 (EST)

- You could also get Baurus' Akaviri Katana, simply by engaging him in combat after you complete the tutorial and blocking him. It may basically destroy a few of the weapons you get, but otherwise, if you use minor heal and potions a lot, it will break, you yield, and pick it up. It isn't worth anything, and if you rename it by enchanting it with a sigil stone, it can become a good signature blade, good for roleplaying. 24.233.128.66 19:03, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Arrow Questions
A couple of queries about arrows. I'm new to playing Oblivion as a marksman-type character, so I'm not sure how it all works:
1. When I pick up arrows, my game seems to only allow me to carry 'quivers' of 110 of each type, even though I might have more than that in my inventory. Is this right?
2. I have hot-keyed '2' as my arrows, but when I pick up new arrows of the same type, these are not included when I hit the hotkey. They stay in their own 'quiver'.
3. If I hoarde arrows in my house, is there any danger of putting hundreds/thousands of arrows in one big pile in the same cupboard/chest? I notice the merchants sometimes have 200-250 arrows in one pile; should it work for me?
Thanks.
- Unless things have changed between the PC and 360 versions, I'm fairly sure I can answer two of these questions. First, arrows of the same type definitely stack. I've carried over four hundred iron arrows in a single stack, then dropped them as a 400+ quiver. Second, you can probably put as many arrows of the same type as you like in one stack in a storage space. As far as I'm aware storage works exactly like a character's inventory, although there isn't a limit (you may want to look at Glitches: Items Disappearing from Containers first, though). 92.2.208.7 13:48, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Unnaturally Strong Glass Claymores
My character is level 32. He has 100 strength and 100 blade, and combined with the 125% health of his Madness Claymore, it deals 32 base damage on a strike. Yet when I happen to run into skeletons wielding Glass Claymores, they somehow do 37 damage at 125%. This is MUCH more than the Glass Claymore I saved from way back when it was the best weapon available. I do have the "N's Balanced Weaponry" mod, but this is the only mod I have that affects weapons. Does anyone else know if that mod may be causing it, or if it's something else?Lovless510 09:50, 18 May 2009 (EDT)
- It seems like it could be the Balanced Weaponry mod at work, but I don't know. Do you know if it's the case with other Glass Claymores? --Darth NANAME 22:43, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, it happens all the time. Since I don't carry around other types of weapons, I don't notice if it happens to, say, shortswords, but it has happened with other weapons. Every time I run into a skeleton with said glass claymore, it's always the more powerful version. I recently found a Daedric Claymore that said it did 44. Since I can't tell per swing if it's doing as much as it says, I'm assuming it's probably not actually that powerful, and that the game is just showing a higher number but not actually doing more with it. Also, to make sure it wasn't somehow increasing the damage based on my level, I went and had another Perfect Madness Claymore made. Still 32.Lovless510 22:58, 6 June 2009 (EDT)

Thanks I thought each weapon had separate pages. — Unsigned comment by Mhira (talk • contribs) on 6 June 2009
Should the others really be others?
I was wondering since Akaviri Katana, Ancient Akaviri Katana, Steel Cutlass and Sharpened Cutlass all have the same general statistics(speed and reach)as longswords shouldn't they belong in the longsword section rather than in a other section? I was wondering if there are other people who agree and if this matter should be taken into consideration for editing this page in the future.

- I would prefer to keep them apart. They may handle like longswords, but they don't fit in that list. Those lists are formatted after the default order of weapon qualities (Iron to Daedric). The other weapons now stand out. A second reason would be, if we do add them, we would have people complaining about katana's not being longswords and more. --Timenn < talk > 11:38, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
- I think we can agree that the longsword section has weapons with the word "Longsword" in their title. At least. that's the most logical explanation I can think of. 24.233.128.66 19:08, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
More Pics
I belive that fine steel weapons should have there own pics considering they have a unique appearance.--Kaito 00:17, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
bow vs arrow damage
if I use an iron bow and iron arrows, both of witch have base damage of eight, dose it do damage of eight or sixteen. i.e. is it the average or sum of the base damage used.— Unsigned comment by 81.141.178.11 (talk) at 14:17 on 29 August
How do I add custom weapons?
Basically, I'm trying to make a mod that gives you weapons when you rank up (apprentice, journeyman, expert, master) any melee class skill (blade, blunt). For now, I'll manually do that in console.
But, how do I make custom weapons in the Construction Set? How do I get NIF and DDS images?
Thanks

Anyone got fixed locations on a fine steel mace? — Unsigned comment by 67.167.229.227 (talk) at 22:07 on 27 September 2009
- A Fine Steel Mace can be found on a table in the Dividing Line in Leyawiin, you will have to steal it though.--Kaito 06:22, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

- Stealing is not a problem, i'll just use a fence to clear the hand. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 67.167.229.227 (talk) at 06:42 on 28 September 2009

- One of the houses in Bruma has one. I forgot specifically who the house belonged to, but it was next door to old Baenlin's place. 24.233.128.66 19:09, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Fine Steel Claymore/Other Fine steel weapons loacations?
I have had this game for a while and have just come accross a fine steel longsword (and bow, but it looks identical to a steel one. Also just found a shortsword)and can't seem to find any other fine steel weapons, a Fine Steel Claymore in particular would be nice). I'm trying to collect each type of weapon in the game and would greatly appreciate it if anyone could point me in the direction of the locations of fine steel claymores, shortswords, daggers, etc. I have tryied looking all over the UESP Wiki and can't find specific locations. Please and thank you!

Theres a good amount of Fine Steel gear at the Weapons shop in Leyawiin, you will need to either purchase or steal it, though. --SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 03:35, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
I have now found a fine steel mace and another shortsword thanks to your advice, SneakyPenguin, thank you! I actually found out from a friend over Xbox live that a Fine Steel Claymore can be purchased from the Chorrol Fighter's Guild blacksmith in the basement at around 9:00 a.m. if that helps anyone else questing for these weapons. I now have a Fine Steel Shortsword, Longsword, Claymore, Mace, and Bow. I'm still looking for a Dagger, War Axe, Battle Axe, and War Hammer. If anyone has any information on these weapon's fixed locations I would appreciate it.

My third (and brand new) character is a bosmer marksman, where did you find that bow? i could benefit from such and item. Oh and your more then welcome about the advice, to be honest if you look one or two conversations up i asked a similar question myself and thats how i learned about it. --SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 22:34, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
I found it at Fort Scinia around the entrance somewhere. It looks identical to a Steel Bow it just has 1 higher base damage. If you're looking for a good low level bow that will hit ghosts, the Imperial Legion Forester that hangs out in front of the Inn of Ill Omen carries a Silver Bow if you dont mind pickpocketing him while he sleeps (if he ever does?) or just killing him when he's target practicing.
Vashmanseven 00:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Coincidentally i was considering getting silver gear, thanks. --SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 00:53, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I Have all of the fine steel weapons and use them all the time. They are great for training. I am aware that you can buy all of them, that is how i got all of them. I'm level 12, I just started a new game, and they are all available to buy. Sorry I can not give you more info. Good luck finding all the weapons. P.S. dont forget to collect the dramora weapons as well.

There is a balncony type part across the entrance to Fort Nikel which is across the bridge to the Imperial city with a Fine Steel Longbow, and some other goodies too, which would probably be easier than that other Fort. There is a rock where you can jump to a pillar then the balcony part, and you dont need high acrobatics to reach it. (Done it as pure fighters with acro at <10.) 173.52.92.163 17:43, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Silver Bow/Arrows
I have a possibly stupid question. How do silver bows and arrows work? Let me elaborate.
Do you need both a silver bow, and silver arrows for them to harm ghosts? or will one work without the other?
Im guessing they work by them selves but I'm wondering why that makes sense. It should be that just the silver arrows work be cause that's whats actually doing damage to the ghost.--SneakyPenguin77 (also my Gamertag) 00:52, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Daedric Claymore
Anyone know where to find a Daedric claymore or at least know where the best chances of getting one are at? My old Bound one isn't cutting it anymore.
- Well, most of them can be carried by marauders or, of course, dremoras at level 20 or higher, although you may also find a bandit carrying one in the Rockmilk Cave or other places. A list of all the places where marauders can be found is here--MC• S'drassa •T2M 22:05, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Design Tweak
I am thinking this could use a tiny tweak, something like this:
These weapons ignore Resist Normal Weapons effects. |
It allows the special weapons to stick out more. Whether this is redundant or not, or not necessarily needed, will be left for you to decide. It wont be able to be sortable, but I don't really see that as a problem because it increases each time you go down one notch. Thoughts? –Elliot talk 21:24, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I like this idea. I remember struggling early in the game, trying to figure out what I had with me that would work the very first time I was deep in a dungeon and encountered ghosts, so this could be a helpful change. It's easily visible, but inobtrusive. Sarikitty 21:27, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

- I like it. I don't think the lack of...sortability?...is really going to be a big issue here. —Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 21:28, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with that - the human mind is wonderful at recognizing patterns. It's really not hard to quickly scan the list visually and see all the blue entries. Sarikitty 21:29, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Ancient Akaviri Katana?
I would like one of these weapons to go along with my Orcish Armor set, which I am just hitting the level for it to start becoming available. I can't seem to find out where to get the Ancient Akaviri Katana, though. Mole126 23:40, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- There are only two, both carried by undead blades in Sancre Tor (who become the Ghost of Valdemar and the Ghost of Rielus). You can only get them once you start the quest Blood of the Divines. --MC• S'drassa •T2M 03:44, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I did find a more easily accessible weapon that goes nicely with Orcish armor though. If anyone out there is level-appropriate for Orcish armor and likes to be in full, uniform-looking sets like me, I highly suggest Dremora weaponry to go along with your Orcish set. Good stats for the level and it doesn't look half bad on a man in Orcish armor. -98.180.4.125 04:26, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
